First time I have ever seen a product review on TH-cam from anyone, amateur or otherwise, where they could not wait 5 minutes to eat some food and munched their head off through half of the review. I'm actually astounded you would think that was even remotely acceptable, I'd personally be embarrassed and re-record the bits that I had ruined with my appetites need to feast...
Used this product for a week now cost me £169 and its value for money. I was disappointed that there was no Netflix, Now and Prime Apps otherwise love the specs and would recommend if you want to record programmes to skip commercials and find easily your TV schedule.
@@andyturner7963You will require a spare HDMI socket for this receiver. Outdoor aerial is recommended on Manhattan website although I am using portable aerial although live 5 miles from the nearest transmitting mast. Obviously reception while using a portable indoor aerial will vary depending on your own circumstances and distance from nearest transmitter site. I feel that these are fantastic devices and serve as a great alternative to ongoing expensive cable and satellite TV subscriptions. I now want to purchase one for my holiday caravan but will need to do some extra research to determining signal quality and if I will require an external aerial to be installed. Nonetheless it will hopefully be a great addition to my mobile holiday home if I can make it work in such a remote location. Edited to fix obvious autocorrect errors.
Crazy mark-ups on the RRP - the 500GB model is £30 cheaper elsewhere; the 1TB £60 cheaper; and the 2TB £70 cheaper! It'll be Richer Sounds for me, thank you very much.
Hi. thanks for your comment, its not really about mark ups, its buying power, being just a small independent company, we can not get these boxes at the same prices as the big boys, such as argos or currys. But I think were we win is a great personal service to many of our very happy customers.
@@FreesatSpares"Buying power". Being a smaller company doesn't give you the right to rip people off. People will and SHOULD go elsewhere for their purchase if thats your attitude 👍
@@ONEWAYLEEWAY I think you are misunderstanding what I am trying to say. We can not buy these boxes as cheap as the large retailers, so if we sell them, we pay more than them at the wholesalers. We pride ourselves in providing the best customer information and support from years of experience and go above and beyond for our customers.
Very disappointed with your review. I wanted to see the EPG for recording which is what I’m going to be using it for perhaps you could do another video.
You don't need an internet connection if you are not going to use the apps or catch-up TV viewing on set up just select skip then it will let you scan for TV Freeview through your TV aerial
Thanks for reviewing the Manhattan t4-r .One thing that annoys me about all these machines is if I'm replaying a recording and I say press pause half the screen is blocked from view for a number of seconds. It would perhaps be good if you could check for this annoying design flaw when reviewing machines in the future. It would allow me to avoid certain machines. Thanks Thomas
I've just bought this as a Christmas present for my partner. I set it up at home to check it, and am surprised that you need an internet connection in order to search the tv guide. My 10+-year-old Humax has a brilliant interface and programme search. I thought the Humax machines were a little overpriced, but no, this one certainly is. On the face of it, it seemed like a good buy for basic recording, but it will be going back, and I will be spending a bit more money to buy her a trusted Humax.
I set my Manhattan T4-R Recordable up three weeks ago with no internet and the TV Guide worked fine. (Did you do a manual firmware upgrade via a Flash/USB drive from the instructions on Manhattan's website? - that may resolve your issue) Personally I am finding this box great for Freeview and once connected to an ISP the apps work great, the TH-cam App should be deployed out to all boxes via the internet (or via a manual Firmware upgrade) on hopefully Manhattan's next "patch" to be rolled out in about six weeks time (six weeks from today - 9th Dec 2024 as I post this comment). - Am looking forward to the TH-cam App being deployed once the certification has been sorted out. Overall "Fantastic" recordable Box so - far.
Thank you for posting this review. We have the Manhattan T3-R. A good enough recorder but it does have some little problems. For example when plugged into our new Sony A95L it tends to switch the TV on again after we’ve switched our TV off. We’ve tried switching off the HDMI control on the recorder but the problem is still there, is it still switching our TV on again after we’ve switched it off. The one other tiny thing we don’t like about the T3-R is that when it’s in standby, ie off, there’s a constant red light showing on the front of the box which we hate. What I’d like to know, does the new T4-R show the same red light when switched off? If not then we could be interested in upgrading to the T4-R. And any helpful tips to stop the recorder switching our TV on again after we’ve switched it off would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi, you you are asking if the Freely Service is on this device. No it is not. freesatspares.co.uk/blogs/news/freely-alternatives-will-iptv-lead-the-way
Not sure I'd ever touch a Manhattan again. Every one I've had has slowed to a crawl, been massively lacking in basic features (seriously, no netflix, d+, youtube...not even a browser?!) and overall just seem to be made as cheap as possible. They're good as a very basic entrylevel device for someone very technically illiterate and who doesn't use anything other than basic terrestrial (which is fewer and further between given the awful quality of shows these days), but thats about it. Certainly wouldn't even put them in a mid-range category at this point.
Given they delayed launch of this by a few months they should have released it with at least netflix and TH-cam. I won't be buying this now, I'll stick with Freesat. One annoying part of Freesat is NO remote recording via the app. For some totally BIZARRE reason Freesat have removed this facility!!!!!

Would this still work with Amazon fire stick as I haven one a HDMI slot in my tv and can I add a internal areal thanks

Were you really eating whilst making your video...very annoying...lots of info missing

Surprised it doesn't have TH-cam. The T3-R has TH-cam.
Shockingly bad review!!

It’s not offering any more over the previous version from what I can see. Thanks for the video though.

At the start you mentioned Netflix, the box does not appear to have Netflix, Prime TV, Disney Paramount plus etc? Why not?
It does not, I am very surprised, as I think you are. Maybe they will add it later.... I'm sorry I don't know, it seems odd to me too.
Does this connect to the new type of iptv streams introduced last year ?

Most smart tv's have apps for Netflix/Amazon etc.... anyway
Can I connect with Wi-Fi and no aerial ?
Yes you could, but you would only get the basic apps. I would suggest a fire stick would be a cheaper option for streaming.
We NOW have this Device back in stock! (June 13th 2024) - find it on our website www.freesatspares.co.uk
Why didn't you click on the TV guide ?? Lol and shoes us that as that's the main thing we use..too busy eating your tea hahaha
Do you know if we can renumber the order, i.e., say itv2 from 6, say to 12. ?
