I have a half Maltese, half Shih Tzu mix who is 11.5 weeks old. I was taking him outside to train him but there was a severe thunderstorm and will last for a week. It’s disrupting my training so I changed it to a fake turf & pee pad but it’s not working out. I’m crate training him (it is the correct size for him) but he keeps pooping and peeing in there. When I take him to outside (before the storm) or on the pad, he refuses to go. The minute I put him back in, he immediately poops/pees. I also want to know if puppy should be allowed toys in the crate and how long he should be in the crate and how long he should be allowed out of the crate during this training period. Thank you!!!
@@suel186 9 out of 10 dogs will prevent peeing or pooping inside the dog crate because they need to sit or lie in their feces if they do that. Please see 9 out of 10 dogs. Meaning some dogs have no problem with it, and that is maybe your dog ... You can see whether or not you can make the crate smaller by a divider or a panel. The idea is that the dog cannot pee in one corner of the crate and sleep in the other. Maybe try holding it on your lap while waiting instead of bringing it back to the dog crate. I do not suggest having toys on the dog crate when you are not supervising it. There is no specific timeframe for how long a puppy should be in its crate or out of his crate. Hi, Great video!... I understand that you should not shout when a puppy pees inside, but should we make him / her know that we do not like it, or should we only focus on rewarding when her / she pees outside?
Hi, I brought home 8 weeks old Labrador 3 days ago and I tried taking him outside to Pee and poo but he would not go outside. I live in Canada and it’s been pretty cold outside, When I take him out he will sniff around a little and then he would just sit in between my legs and as soon as I bring him inside he will go pee or poo. Is it really too cold for him to go outside or I am doing something wrong? Also when I put him in his crate the first night with treats and his toys, he started whinnying like crazy and would not stop, I waited for like 5 mins to see if he would calm down but he only got worst so I took him out and now he sleeps beside my bed on the floor. How can I get him to get cozy in his crate and sleep in it. I took a week of work to get my puppy comfortable and when I go back I will need to leave him in his crate for 3-4 hours. Please help me.
Great video! Re: setting an alarm at night to let the puppy out to pee, what are the signs the puppy needs to go? I heard that puppies will also cry out because they don't want to sleep alone (especially when just weaned from the mother), but that I should resist the urge to take them out each time they cry (to avoid reinforcing the wrong behavior). I don't have a dog yet but am getting a Yorkie Poo soon! :)
Thanks! If you hear it toss and turn then it is the right moment the take it outside for a pee. But yes if it is crying there's a good chance it needs to go pee as well. It all depends on when it cries and when was the last time the puppy peed. Please check out my books on Amazon. They are available for only $5 per book. Bringing home my 9-week-old standard poodle today! Should I set my alarm at intervals to get him up in the night or just wait til I hear him rustling and then take him pee?
Hi there I have a 12 week old cavachon who's great during the day v little accidents but night time I haven't been putting her in crate. Jus in her bed shes doin her pee and poops on paper puppy pad . Is it too late to use crate now after almost 3 weeks
Hi Brita, I just saw your msg. It is never too late to start crate-training. It can be a little more difficult but it is never too late. Let me know if you need any help. Good luck.
Hi! We just got a 3 month old pug called Pepper- she’s been with us 3 days now and we need to train her to pee on a pee pad tray/holder as we live in a city condo and it’s not easy to take her out quickly. She’s also not fully vaccinated yet so can’t take her outside yet! We have been keeping her in a crate at night which we keep inside a playpen, and we covered the floor with pee pads and put her tray in there too. Sometimes she pees on the tray (2 times I think) but majority of the time she just goes on the pads. How could I help train her to pee on the tray instead? Any tips would be great!
Maybe not the answer you're looking for ... I understand it is not easy to go out quickly for you but still I suggest going out with it. Now you are potty training it twice. First on the tray/pads and after that outside. Try to go out as many times as possible on the correct times. See this schedule: www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule
I have a lilac Merle French bull dog with blue eyes. Her name is Athena. Thank you for the tips they have been very helpful!
