Binging with Babish: Buttered Noodles from Community

- This week, we're double-dipping in the world of Dan Harmon's lovable, irreverent collegiate caricature: Community. I'm here to defend the "weird" favorite food of Abed Nadir: buttered noodles. Yes, that impossibly plain side dish/cafeteria filler/thing you eat when you're sick. With a few simple tricks, we can upgrade this ubiquitous underdog into something worth making all on its own.

Bad start. First you need to buy a young bull, to inseminate your cow.
Untill today I never knew this was a proper dish. I didn't know you could just make it. I would have it when my mom made spaghetti, and often would sneak a second bowl- without any sauce.
I felt so guilty doing this, like I was eating desert without dinner first.
I feel validated seeing this in doing that though.
Why are you eating spaghetti without some sort of beef
@@ChoaiDode because I wasn't eating spaghetti, I was eating buttered noodles?
@@FluffyDragonDrawing well I guess I could’ve worded that better: why was your mom making spaghetti without something beef-based
@@ChoaiDode well first of all, I don't see a problem if someone were to have it without beef.

@@FluffyDragonDrawing so why are you presenting it as if there was no beef and first of all, i have major issues if someone was to eat spaghetti without beef
Fun fact, every time you call pasta "noodles" an Italian spontaneously combusts in anger. Needless to say the fire services were very busy when this video came out
It's a type of noodle. Always has been, even way back when the Italians stole the idea from the Chinese.
Not just Italians, all over Europe we cannot understand why Americans call pasta 'noodles' 😕
@@CharloBagis Because they are. You didn't invent them. The Chinese did.
@@Toastybees yes I know Chinese invented pasta, that's why rigatoni and spaghetti are called pasta not noodles. Noodles are a shape of pasta

I've been making this for years and the key is the addition of some of the pasta-water back to the pan when you butter the noodles. Like the gentleman says, it makes it more like a sauce than just noodles soaked in butter. It's smoother, richer and creamier.
I add like a tablespoon or two of instant mashed potatoes for a bit of a creamier sauce

The tip of making buttered noodles with butter and salt is truly amazing. This has changed my life
Google knows to show me this after frenemies
Here in italy, true buttered pasta almost always has some sage, whether in leaves or powdered is up to availability/laziness. It's "Pasta burro e salvia" and it's one of the lunches of choice when you are a broke student and don't know almost shit about cooking. Also, first you boil the water, when the water is boiling you "drop" the pasta. If you don't do it that way, a thousand italian grandmas will die and haunt your dreams forever and your lasagna will always break when you are preparing it.
i felt that grandma part ...and i'm not even italian ....
