- [KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that he was criticised by several politicians for asking an entrepreneur to help poor rice farmers.
“But when that entrepreneur pays millions in political funds, they (the politicians) kiss his hands,” he said during his speech at the launch of MRT Putrajaya Line at the Serdang MRT depot this morning.
The prime minister was referring to tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, the owner of Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas), who had to channel RM60 million of his profits to rice farmers.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, Khairi Anwar, the director of the controversial movie Mentega Terbang, has received a death threat.
His car was also splashed with black and red paint.
In his police report sighted by Malaysiakini, the 31-year-old director mentioned that actor Arjun Thanaraju’s car was also splashed with red paint and acid at the latter’s residence in Ampang.___________________

Vital Industries like staple food should not be control by individual. Major shareholders should not be more than 10 %. Similar to the Banking industries. Syed Mocthar monopoly must be Broken up.

To give to farmers is the duty of the Gov but not the Company unless the Company willingly to give such contribution freely
While the company were given monopoly over a staple food ? While the same company donated huge sum to a political party ?

@@ramliomar8548 Robert Kuok was given the monopoly at a time when sugar and flour prices were controlled at rock bottom pricing. Meagre income while paying hefty taxes to the government coffer. We all benefitted with low cost of food prices and stable continuous supplies. It was all history when his sugar empire taken over and sugar prices spiked 2 folds or more. Cannot recall what monopoly was given to YTL. A construction outfit, involves too with cement and telecommunications but never given any monopolies. They all pay plenty of taxes. No tax exemption.

Malays asked why mokhtar bukhairi was forced to help padi farmers but non malays tycoon was not forced to help the poor
that's because Dato Seri Anwar wanted to stop rice import monopoly, and it happen that Syed Mokhtar is the one monopolizing the rice industry. How to go for nnon malays tycoon when they are not the one monopolizing the rice industry? Can you think of one basic need industry where non malaysia are dominating? If you want to talk about sugar, it's owned by MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd and Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd (CSR). Both are malay companies too? Apa lagi you mau? Government action of asking $$$ from malays mean mostly malays are richer in Malaysia than other races. So are you unhappy with your people being richer? In Islam, helping the poor is consider a good act and will be rewarded by Allah. So why you want to give away Allah’s reward to non Muslim?
