Also want to say that since your sabbatical you've unlocked another gear in performance. I can't quite put my finger on it yet, but you've leveled up in a big way. Keep up the great work!
As a beginner creator, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. Not only do you go into detail, you demonstrate and somehow makes it all make sense in no non tech savvy brain and I can't explain how much I appreciate that. Thank you 😊

New creators ask me all the time what the best set up is. Recently, my only answer is the Osmo Pocket 3. It can Vlog, live stream, record 4k60, it's small, stabilized and it's well priced. My entire second channel strictly uses this one.
I love how much more chill and happy you seem in these videos-not such an emphasis on doing the most, intensity, and now there’s a person here I can get to know! ❤😊
Hi Vannesa, can you please take a video about protecting your personal information as a blogger, I saw a video of a blogger, who some sick dude stalked, and he figured out where she lives, where she is working out, etc. When I went through the comments, I was terrified, some bloggers were talking about cases where even their kids were kidnapped, for money. Also, the case where some sick dude calculated when the girl had menstruation, only by images of food she eats and her mood swings, that happened in Korea. Bloggers were talking about, not shooting videos of themselves near windows, so the view will be visible, also, don't shoot videos near street names, with shop bags, etc. Also better avoid telling where you live, will be great to have a list of things better to avoid as a blogger, to minimize stalking.
Finding the right setup can be such a huge time-waster, and a never-ending rabbit-hole. Solid video that explains it all; thanks for sharing. I had the ZV 1 and upgraded to the ZV e10 too.
@@ianjunitedk for me it was. I already had a nice lens sitting around from when I started doing my zoom shows back in 2020. So the "start up cost" wasn't as high. So yeah, the lenses sure can be expensive, but in my book it was worth it.
lol you can sell anything. it's seriously amazing how well you can go through SOOOO MUCH information, and keep it light and exciting. it's insane!! thanks for the inspiration
I absolutely love the simplicity of your setups. I am one of the self-professed “teckie” guys, but preach how a simple setup can get anyone 90% of the way there over the 10x price alternatives. I actually just made a video about how the ZVE-10 could easily serve as the main camera for a channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, and you ironically proved me very right! Looking forward to more great content.
As a technician (literally in media production), this is just a solid breakdown of equipment and how and why to use it. Sure some of the jargon isn't perfect, but more often than not its how well you use the equipment you have more than knowing every technical spec of it! The video is so good I had to come down here and comment!
Vanessa can you make a video on whether people should create YT shorts or not? There’s a lot of debate on whether they kill a channel or not because of a split audience. Would love to hear your take on this in detail. Thanks for all you do and welcome back 🙏
Love that you mentioned that it’s advisable to purchase a camera that a lot of people have purchased already, it saves a lot of time. Would be purchasing the mic just cause I love the quality it gives you in this video
Vanessa, thanks so much for putting this great video together. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's quite confusing what equipment to use and when, especially if you're new to making content. I appreciate you making such a professional but easy to understand video for all of us noobs. You've earned yourself a subscriber.
I'm trying to grow my spiritual channel and focus on long-form content creation- this is PERFECT! Thank you so much! That new vlogging camera looks amaaazing. You're a life savior!
Thank you, Vanessa. I ordered the Vlogging setup today & I'm so looking forward to not need 14 different things for a camera setup for vlogging interviews!
When I saw your previous TH-cam setup video years ago, I'm glad I did some research around the topic and shopped for other camera models, because I ended up buying the Sony zv-e10. And now years later, I'm glad that your main camera update validates my purchase LOL.

First time I saw one of your Videos. I just want to add two things. You definitely do not need to know what all the numbers mean, but: The Sigma lens shown is made for FullFrame Cameras and the ZV-E10 is an APS-C Camera (Sensor is smaller). Therefore the 16mm shown looks more like a 24mm and the 11mm looks more like a 16mm. To get the equivalent of a Full Frame Lens you have to roughly multiply by 1.5 (16*1.5=24mm). I am just saying this so people who are starting out and buying a cheap Full Frame camera (like the Canon R8) should not make the mistake and buy an 11mm for Full Frame. That would be almost FishEye und does not look anything like your picture. No hate comment. I just want to help. If there are any further question, no matter who, let me know. I will happily answer them.
The lenses are NOT made for full frame. They’re aps-c lenses. If you use them on full frame you’ll get vignetting. Sony and all the other camera brands still use the full frame equivalent focal lengths though, so you still have to do the math. But don’t buy the sigma lens thinking it’s for full frame.
Good look. Smart lighting. Nice going. Tips, for setup 1: get that mic off the camera and get it close to your face. Hand held is okay, but other wise: We hear the room/ echo. Get a magic arm, clamp it to the tripod, and put it just out of frame and close to your face. Use an extention chord to keep the connection with the camera.. Re: putting most money in the lens: put the most money in the sound. Cheap microphones can sound good, just make sure they are close to your face.

You are honestly the best for sharing this, I just bought the ZV e10 and there’s so much information out there, it’s been burning me out. I do cooking videos, and it’s a bit hard to find the right equipment to get the look I want. You’ve provided a lot of great information. Thank you!!
I'm wanting to start a youtube channel and I came across this. What a great job you did. L'd love to learn as much as I can on what equipment I need. I'm glad I found a really nice helpful person.
I just upgraded from the Sony ZV-1 to the Sony ZV E10, and I'm loving it! I kept the old one for a backup camera in case of emergencies. This is a great video, thanks for sharing it!
Ooo you could use your zv1 as a webcam too! Maybe that could be a good use for it! This video walks through how to do it. I think you should be able to turn it into a webcam!
@@VanessaLau Such a good idea! I’m currently using it as a second angle, but I’m loving the E10 so much (specifically the no recording limit) that I want a second E10 for this purpose now 😂
You're so amazing, the detail that I got out of your video explained in the simplest terms made this video more valueable then any of the other "TH-cam Equipment Videos"! This was brilliant, simple, and perfect for someone to have 3 different perspectives of what they want to do and what they want to get. Great job Vanessa!
Hands down the most helpful video I have ever seen. In the process of changing my setup and you literally answered every single question I had and then some. Thank you so so much ❤
Thank you very much for sharing all of your equipment with us! 🙏 it’s very kind of you to be so humble and transparent with your technical hardware, work methods, alongside explaining to us in such simple language. This video is highly appreciated! 🤜🤛
Immediately fell in love with your energy and really enjoyed how the way you communicate and express yourself and everything in an extremely clear, fun and interesting way!!! What a breath of fresh air!! Thank you and so glad to see the younger generation like you also willing to help others. Keep going with the good role model vibe!!😎😎 but less swearing is better 😝 ❤
This is a super useful video. Just over a year into my TH-cam content creation journey and I’m figuring out how I can optimise the budget I allocate towards my video setup… It’d be insightful to hear more about your perspective on part time TH-camrs and balancing investing into the set vs time taken to break even…
Posted 3 videos so far and Im already running out of storage space on my phone! Researching and trying to find a good camera instead. This looks promising thank you!
12:42 Dude I love the way you fade your facecam into the other content. I've done this kinda effect many times as a graphic designer but not on a streaming / screen sharing / faceacam setup. It makes it look super polished and smooth!
I am excited when I am able to invest and improve my content. Yours looks so good and I love your transition slides. I appreciate how simple your set up is. I know people that use a different camera and lenses depending if they are vlogging or sitting down.
Wow that earned you my subscription, a lot of youtubers gate keep their gear not sure why when it isn't a secret that better cameras equal better quality. But you were so generous with showing us everything you use so really appreciate that and you really sold me on that Osmo wow.
So, what to say here? Well first off, thank you so much for actually going through every thing you use and fully explaining it. You are the first that I have watched (I have watched many) that actually did that. I now know a lot more than I did before. Thank you for that. Now for added info. Lol. I work as an online teacher. I both stand up and sit all of the time. I am also writing books and am selling them online for children. I am making videos for that as well. I am doing a teaching TH-cam channel. So as you can see I do many tings. I don't want 3 setups, so which one would you recomend for teaching, vloging and sales vids?
A really wide-angle lens will distort your face when you're closer to it, in photography if they're doing headshots you usually use a 50 mm or a 70 mm lens because you don't get a bunch of the face warping effect. Now it's something like an 11 mm lens you'd have to be decently far back to keep from getting some of that lens distortion. I've been working with cameras for years, don't worry you look fine on the camera, just kind of bring that to your intention in case you didn't know but I wouldn't get too close to it or you might start to look like a fisheye lens sortof Now on the zve 10 if you run it in 4k 30 that will make it crop and even more but you can put it on 4K 24 frames per second and you'll get a wider field of view, and if you're using the lens stabilization on the camera it may also crop in so you're wide lens may not be as wide as it could be if you're running 4K 30 frames per second and have the stabilizer on, that'll make it crop in big time. I turn the Lin stabilization off because it's always up on a stand or a tripod and I keep it on 4K 24 frames per second and I get the widest field of view possible
I just found your video, you did an excellent job explaining all the pieces per set up, your presentation was absolutely on point and better than any other influncers i have seen, and i have seen many. Your are a gorgeous lady....
As a recovering blue yeti user: do not get an usb mic. The amount of money you save in the mic purchase will quickly be lost in the amount of editing and babysitting it to get a proper/ acceptable sound. That time will result in less videos made more lost assets and general frustration. Shure IS expensive but these things also have a big impact on productivity. Also @VanessaLau just called my cramped work room a hell-hole in fluent feng-shui. Like damn that place looks cleaner than an ikea ad.
the DJI pocket 3 is a beast. I have the Canon M50 with Sigma lenses, Sony ZV1 and DJI pocket 3 and it's a perfect 'budget setup'! buying equipment is such an addiction😂

You might not be a “tech bro” but you have me 10x more info on having a home TH-cam setup/office set up that actually works. I don’t need to know what the alignment of the moons is for a certain month to get a certain shot etc etc. oh and btw you need a 7,000 dollar camera. This is the perfect balance of showing distance from the lens (FOR SOME REASON NO ONE DOES THAT) Price AND performance here. None of the bs. Anyways. Love it. And it’s easy to watch. Ok that’s enough praise. Great fkn video!!!!
I've been following for years back when You Jade, Joana, Emma were blowing up. I'm growing on YT but I've been faceless and now I'm considering doing some vlogs and this video came right in time. Thanks!
Thank you - THANK YOU!!! I am new at this. I Have been watching videos for over a year & have yet to make a video! Your video explanation is absolutely fantastic! Just what I needed!! THANKS AGAIN!! Vernon Christopher
Very helpful and straight to the point. I'm going to order everything you mentioned, outside the desk mic, since I have the Yeti Usb mic and I'm new. Thank you!
Watching you is like seeing a Netflix movie in fast forward. I understand your choices of equipment. I film out door and therefore my needs are different. My z8 connected lots of my lenses would not make me feel uncomfortable with them on a newer tripods . This is normal and why I enjoy the more open spaces to practice my craft. I did find you very entertaining and you brought a smile to my face. That said , blogging indoors affords the luxury of having less robust gear. I was wondering if your film rate can keep up with your audio? Just kidding you packed in a lot great job.
Is there a video that shows all the things you've purchased in your room? From the side tables to the dressers / stands? Everything is so perfectly aesthetic!
THANK YOU VANESSA!! This really helped me so much ☺️ I am changing things up on my channel and decided to finally get a camera I got the Sony zv1 I haven’t vlogged with it yet but I’m hoping to have better quality videos. And I love your set up gave me some idea. Thank you thank you! 🙏🏼
Vanessaaaa! I have been following your channel for a while now and absolutely love these setup videos. I really appreciate the transparency and breakdown of each and every setup. It is overwhelming for a solo creator like me starting out but I can build my to-do list accordingly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge as always
Thank you VL! I bought the Sony zv1 last year when I stared my channel based on your recommendations and videos and I just got the Pocket 3 over the weekend and today is the first day I’m recording with it. 🎉. I so appreciate the behind the scenes to help us newbies sort out all the equipment and good practices for our setups. I also have setup three filming stations (still making some tweaks) and plan to check out some of the products you mentioned. Respect and gratitude for your content and your full transparency. ❤
Of course! And OMG I love the osmo pocket 3!! It’s the best. It took a while for me to get used to but now I think it’s one of my fave cameras! Especially for short form video content. So good!! Have fun with this season of your content!!
I have ONLY been using the Pocket 3 since it arrived. Both my kitchen video I posted 2 weeks ago - walking around the space filming, and the empties video I just posted - a talking head style were filmed on pocket 3. I still know very little about videography so the pocket 3 has been phenomenal it helping me overcome that skills gap. The mic auto connects and sounds great. , and I’ve recorded plenty of footage without it, using the onboard mic. Both work great. I’ve purchased some fun, inexpensive accessories and am finding it’s soo much easier to pick it up and start filming/ capturing the b-roll for future content. My Sony is destined to be my top down filming camera and will prolly live on the top down mount for extended periods because I have no use for it since I have the pocket 3. I am not striving for exceptionally high quality video, so I can’t speak to that level, but the quality of image I’m able to achieve with my lack of knowledge is great. I use the handheld pocket three on the external battery mounted on a ulanzi tripod. It’s perfect for filming from counter height whether I’m sitting or standing. If you’re considering buying and your budget will allow, I would definitely go with the entire creator kit option because I am consistently using the extras that came in the kit. 👍
I'm in love❤ on all levels🤣 I couldn't take my eyes off your video; to the point and very detailed explanation on your setups. Plus you are gorgeous❤. Also, I have that Shure as well and I HIGHLY recommend the RODECASTER DUO(white version). This is a game changer, Vanessa.
Thanks for sharing your camera set ups! Very insightful. Heard many good things about the DJI osmo vlog set up. Might have to jump on the bandwagon and get one!
The 16 mm Sigma shows you closer than you are because you have the image stabilisation ON(steady shot) and it crops by 1.44x factor. Basicly, the 16 mm turns into 23 mm on APS-C camera like ZV-E 10, or 35 mm on Full frame camera. The 11 mm Sony, multiplied by 1.44x factor turns into 16 mm. Turn off steady shot an you will see the difference!

Wow!!! Thank you SO much Paul. Excited for you to start your TH-cam journey!! Have the best year yet!
Keep going! ❤
The more I watch this video, the more I want to hug you. Thank you for all the information ❤
I’m currently using it as a second angle, but I’m loving the E10 so much (specifically the no recording limit) that I want a second E10 for this purpose now 😂
Glad you're back, Vanessa. Great video
This comment means so much to me! Thank you so much! And yes! Wanted to show the range of possibilities!
Thanks Vanessa, I was looking for equipments to make better vlogs and I found your video. This video really useful for TH-cam beginners.
Thank you! Yep, even at 700k subs “ beginner” equipment still works like a charm! Doesn’t need to be *toooooo* fancy!
Hi Vanessa, can you share with us where are you finding background music on your VLogs?
@@easyenglishlessons1 This is interesting. I want to know where Vanessa gets her background music.
I feel so good watching this, you made this so approachable and simple ❤ thank you!
Best video hands down I’ve seen in a long time for beginner content creators. Starting back up my content career and I’m so excited!
Just over a year into my TH-cam content creation journey and I’m figuring out how I can optimise the budget I allocate towards my video setup…
It’d be insightful to hear more about your perspective on part time TH-camrs and balancing investing into the set vs time taken to break even…
Posted 3 videos so far and Im already running out of storage space on my phone! Researching and trying to find a good camera instead. This looks promising
thank you!
I've been working with cameras for years, don't worry you look fine on the camera, just kind of bring that to your intention in case you didn't know but I wouldn't get too close to it or you might start to look like a fisheye lens sortof
Now on the zve 10 if you run it in 4k 30 that will make it crop and even more but you can put it on 4K 24 frames per second and you'll get a wider field of view, and if you're using the lens stabilization on the camera it may also crop in so you're wide lens may not be as wide as it could be if you're running 4K 30 frames per second and have the stabilizer on, that'll make it crop in big time.
Like damn that place looks cleaner than an ikea ad.
wow, i remember you like 3years ago, and now i wanna get into this youtube space. wish i started early
the DJI pocket 3 is a beast. I have the Canon M50 with Sigma lenses, Sony ZV1 and DJI pocket 3 and it's a perfect 'budget setup'!
buying equipment is such an addiction😂
Thank you for sharing and showing us why you chose certain equipment. It was very informative and easy to understand especially for a beginner!
I love watching you over in this vlog. Very clear, well explained and very detailed. Thanks for the informations.
I love the fact that you're very simple but yet very professional and the quality of your content is very professional
Great job Vanessa
Thank you so much!! Yes - embracing simplicity! :) If its too complicated... i dont want it lol 😅
@@VanessaLau I hear that spending a lot of time doing one thing can really take the fun out of what you love doing
Thanks for sharing! I use the SM7B as well but with the rødecaster pro 2 I don't need a cloudlifter so that's a plus 🙂
Thank you so much for this video and sharing your set ups! I also have the Sony camera because so many TH-cam’s have it lol 😅 I just ordered the dummy battery had no idea that was a thing ! Thank you ❤
Thank you for this super detailed video. I actually need to rewatch this and take notes lol😂I’ll be back to watch it over and over again!
You made my life simple and systematic 😊thanks vanessa for clear and straightforward vision toward everything you share❤. I m so so greatful 💛 💓 💖 for everything 🙏
You might not be a “tech bro” but you have me 10x more info on having a home TH-cam setup/office set up that actually works. I don’t need to know what the alignment of the moons is for a certain month to get a certain shot etc etc. oh and btw you need a 7,000 dollar camera.
This is the perfect balance of showing distance from the lens (FOR SOME REASON NO ONE DOES THAT)
Price AND performance here.

Very helpful and straight to the point. I'm going to order everything you mentioned, outside the desk mic, since I have the Yeti Usb mic and I'm new. Thank you!
love your room...i love keeping my room superclean from all different angles..
nice work
Watching you is like seeing a Netflix movie in fast forward.
Clear, comprehensive, entertaining-- I didn't expect anything less from Van!❤🎉🤙
Asa beginner this video helped immensely. You cleared up a ton of stress in my trying to determine why I needed for setup. Thank you.
I love your room lighting! I am a beginner in TH-cam and learning a lot from you :)
Which do you prefer between the Sony and pocket 3 ?
And which one do you think you can use for both vlogging and normal one on one TH-cam videos ?
Very useful and pleasant video. "It looks simple because it is simple", my favorite quote from you.
I'm in love❤ on all levels🤣
I couldn't take my eyes off your video; to the point and very detailed explanation on your setups. Plus you are gorgeous❤.
Also, I have that Shure as well and I HIGHLY recommend the RODECASTER DUO(white version). This is a game changer, Vanessa.
Would you recommend using DJI OSMO as a webcam for desktop setup?
You are absolutley stunning. I have been wanting to try Sony for so long...but I have been with Canon my entire life. Hard to change.
Fantastic video. Loved seeing "behind the scenes" of it all. Had no idea we needed that much gear for audio
Thanks for sharing your camera set ups! Very insightful. Heard many good things about the DJI osmo vlog set up. Might have to jump on the bandwagon and get one!
Absolutely loving your new and aligned vibe!!😊
Thank you for sharing us this setup. I love that you emphasize the practical insights of each item in the setup. I am looking forward to try this.
yes! no need to overcomplicate!
Simple & Easy ✅ Thanks Vanessa!
Oh thank you so much!!!!
@@VanessaLauYou’re welcome!
What computer and or laptop should I use? Also what video editing please and thank you!!
Great video. One more thing I would have liked to see you cover is what you use for editing the shots
I was looking for a new camera other than my Canon m50 for my few channels. I have to say thanks for doing this video. helped me out a lot in choosing the zve102.
Super informative video Vanessa, definitely going to go with some of these recommendations. Specifically that wide angle lens! Thanks!
Thank you!!! I'm loving this new phase of yours - YESSSS!!!
Awesome office setup! Do you have links to things like the desk and accent lights? Love the whole office!
yo this video is one of the most underrated videos for beginners to get started!
This is such great advice for a beginner thank you. Im 42 and I'm only just starting out but I feel I may have a little bit of redtable stuff to talk about so thought I would give this a go! thank you again. Also I just subscribed x
