This was in my recommended and I'm currently a fourth year at Davis lol Few Tips: Talk to everyone in the dorms the first few weeks since everyone is eager to meet new people and make friends. Try to take a lighter course load your first quarter so you can take some time to make new friends and experience the campus. Make an academic plan outlining your first year or two to make sure you stay on track. Your major advisor can help you with this. There are plenty of open parties the first week. Treat yourself and have some fun.
Not a first yr student but watching anyways lolll Can 100% agree with these tips, ESPECIALLY abt calc room & getting out there! It’s your freshman year, enjoy it and find your balance. Best of luck this following qtr :-)
I'm going to be a freshman at UCD next month and I was so nervous about going into the new environment. Thanks for easing off some of my worries. Glad to have some support from a fellow engineer. :)
I'm really glad the video was able to help out! :D If there is anything else you would need to know to help put some of that nervousness to rest - let me know. I'd love to help out another engineer :)
@@favroblox5807Oh wow, blast from the past! I'm going to graduate from Davis next month. Very excited and nervous! I ended up changing my major to Chemistry with a minor in Sociology, because I found that I really loved astrochemistry. This led me to doing undergrad research, and I'm going to present our results at the Undergrad Research Conference later this month. The quarter system is hellishly quick, so keeping deadlines in mind is so important. I met a lot of cool people and joined a few clubs. Playing in The Video Game Orchestra is certainly a highlight for me. If you get the opportunity, I'd highly reccomended doing undergrad research or an internship. Some offer pay and others just give you major credits. It was so goddamm stressful, and at the same time, I'm happy I came here. If you have specific questions, I will do my best to answer them :D
Hi! I really enjoyed your video! If I may, I would like to add a couple of points: 1) Use your resources on campus! There are tons of free resources on campus that students either do not know of or who believe they can survive without it. I am talking about the Women's Resource Center, the Pantry (Memorial Union), Internship and Career Center, Handshake, Counseling Services, ARC, SRRC, the LGBTQ+ community (SCC), and more. Remember, you are paying more than ~14k, ~40k+ depending if you are a resident of California, out-of-state resident, or an international student. Your college years will are the years where many learn, grow, and thrive the most. 2) Gauruv slightly touched it, but I wish for everyone to get out of your comfort zone talk to everyone! What I enjoy most is learning of people's history and breaking that barrier we have in small talk, getting into deeper and meaningful conversations, and learning of other peoples perspective and experiences. So yes, a simple "hello" can go a long way with people as well as "how is your day". Let the conversation flow! ah, and I am a fourth year in UC Davis. Goodluck yalls!
Great video! I am transfering into Davis this fall as a third year. Hopefully I will see you around campus! There is so many UCD students commenting on this video we should all meet up.
I'm transfering to Davis this fall and even though it's not my first year of college I still enjoyed this video 🤣 I love your editing. Keep up the good work!
ahh... calc room.. walked in there once and realized I had no idea what to do. I didn't even bring my laptop or textbook. had to walk out. never returned since I am still so embarrassed, but I won't need to since I do not need to take calc anymore.
I didn't go to orientation, so some of this is p useful! The Calc Room, you say? Hmm... I'll dive into it! Eesh, I'm freaking out, 25 days left until I land in Davis! Worried I'll be slam-dunked by Phy 9B!! Thanks for the video :D
Yup! The Calc Room is in the Mathematical Sciences Building (just in case you want to find it on the map). And ikr! Less than a month left until college life hits! :D Exciting stuff!!
I was a STEPper for 2017 :) trust me it gets better once school starts but STEP helps you so you don’t look lost the first day and helps you know resources available to you
So I got accepted into Berkeley & I’m debating between Davis Merced & Berkeley if you could go back would you still choose Davis over those UC’s? I’m currently leaning more toward Davis because Berkeley’s grade deflation scares me.
If I was the person I am today - I would 100% pick Davis. In high school I made decisions off of prestige - and luckily I didn't get accepted to Berkeley, or I probably would have ended up picking it. Davis's friendliness and openness (in regards to the campus and town) is perfect for me and so I know that this is the right school for me. I've never been a big city guy, but would have gone to Berkeley because of their ranking. This is how I've looked at my decision. And so my advice would be to lay out all the pros for each university that you're considering, and then go with the one with factors that are best suited for you personally
one of my regrets of freshman year was not going to the calc room more! i literally only went there once for 21D lmao i was always too scared to walk in there but the one time i went, i realized that it was v helpful!!
Oh my god I couldn’t agree with you more!!! I never really went to these types of resources like math workshops, career workshops etc freshman year because I was incredibly cocky and thought I had it figured out. BOY WAS I WRONG! Taking advantage of these resources are incredibly crucial. They help you so much.
My advice to not get the freshman 15 is to not use all your Aggie cash on chips because that’s what some ppl (idk who)... some ppl did. Also, try the cuarto DC it’s amazing. If you wanna be wined, dined, and sixty-nined that is the spot 😤🔥
Using all your Aggie cash on chips?? Couldn't be me 🤧 Also I've never actually eaten at that DC so that's probably why I haven't gotten the _full_ UC Davis dining experience yet 😧😥
Gauruv Virk Whaaaat? You need to go! They have so much ice cream and sometimes the chefs carve meat in front of you and serve it to you. Very fancy. Also two floors.
You're HILARIOUS! Take my Asian American Studies courses at UC Davis, especially ASA2 Introduction to Asian American Studies. I talk about higher education and topics that relates to your video. It will be fun. -Prof. Valverde :D
Ah shucks! I don't think I mentioned it in the video but make sure you follow me on Instagram @gauruvvirk

Good job you editing skills improved a lot
Thank you so much!! I'm always trying to get better so this is great to hear! :D
HAHAH I loved this so much, and oh boy DC pizza hit me so hard with that freshman 20 last year too
Thanks Hidra! :D And ya that unlimited pizza is a cold blooded killer for my weight department 😔

Look at the pot calling the kettle black! 😯💯
I'm an incoming freshman that's watched so many Davis vids and I've never heard of the calc room 😅
Some people aren't paying their dues!! At least now you know :)
I'm in STEP currently, and honestly it feels really dead. Hopefully once the quarter starts it's easier to meet people.
Oh I totally believe it's dead over there rn. Trust me, once school starts up again it's gonna be bustling big time 👀
@@GauruvVirk thanks! That's reassuring :)

@@hellomayra really? To be honest I don't really feel like I can relate to many people here. I try to approach people but it hardly goes anywhere.
