Wow, that’s so cool you were there! The St. Petersburg definitely has one of the most unique designs out there. Must have been an amazing experience seeing it up close with your class. What was their favorite part about it?
That big ship - city of ST. Petersburg, the front of it is like one of these big huge planes that fly across our sky, - may those who sail in her keep safe till you get to the other side of the ocean, - happy sailing.
@@davefroman4700 it’s not Russian. It was designed and built in Japan. The company who owns it are Japanese but they flag to Panama 🇵🇦 probably for tax etc. As it’s going into an EU port if it was Russian it would be subject to sanctions I expect. So the name is confusing but the company who owns it is Japanese 🇯🇵
22:45 The City of St. Petersburg is a car transport ship for around 2,000 vehicles, which was delivered by the Kyokuyo Shipyard to the Canadian company Fair Wind Navigation S.A. in 2010.
Thanks for sharing such detailed info! The City of St. Petersburg is truly fascinating with its design and capacity. It’s amazing how it can transport around 2,000 vehicles! Have you seen it in action before

22:22 Without seraching why was this ship designed like that, I could think of a few reasons: - If on its usual route the sip is likely to encounter strong headwinds, that streamlined shape could help with fuel economy. On the return trip, the same winds could help push the ship forward, again helping with fuel economy; - There are sprinkler pipes all over the superstructure. Maybe that rounded shape could help spread the water on the surface in the case of a fire, so the ship could be kept cool and the fire contained?
13:54I've said it ever since DFDS brought in their current naming policy, but what a silly name King Seaways is. And whyever did they replace the time honoured Maltese Cross funnel marking with repeating the letters 'DFDS' that are already on the hull?
I totally agree, those new bow designs are definitely eye-catching and a bit unusual! But it’s interesting how they’re becoming more popular. I wonder if it's all about improving fuel efficiency or something else. What do you think is driving this trend?
Thunderbird 2 Virgill ...... Thunderbirds are go That's what the weird car carrier looks like, It's a mush better design than the others as it doesn't have the flat wall the catch air like the one that was just after it, a much better fuel saving.
Incredible footage! Thanks for sharing this amazing video in 4K!
Hey I was there that day! Me and the entire class were baffled by how weird the St Petersburg looked. Truly one of the ships ever made.

@@renzjomz yes 👍 from what I’ve read it’s a special aerodynamic design - ship built in Japan 🇯🇵 a design to reduce drag

Why does the tug in the front face the ship while towing backwards, I wonder…🤔

I just found your channel. You capture some beautiful images!

Those new bow designs are very strange, but they seem to be all the rage right now.

22:35 -- I am sad for this ship the same way I am sad for the Airbus Beluga. It is a very logical idea, but it is hard to admire.

City of St Petersburg looks like a hamster that's eaten a bit too much for it to swallow 😊

Lijkt wel op een Boeing: 22:08min
Looks like a 747 plane ship

What a hideous ship!

city of St Petersburg looks like it really does contain the whole city of St Petersburg lol
It’s Amsterdam -The title- or Róterdam?
This is Port of Ijmuiden, but most of the ships going to Amsterdam, there is a canal to Amsterdam
I guess they are going to dump all their Prisoners off in the USA with that Prison ship shown at the end of this video.
