    Sprouting is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to hyper-nourish your body. We recently became re-inspired to begin growing our own sprouts at home after hearing our new friend, Doug Evans, on our favorite, The Rich Roll Podcast. We had to get him on for an interview so you could hear just how amazing sprouts are for yourselves! Hopefully this simple tutorial will help you to see how effortless it can be to grow your own garden of superfoods at home for pennies, and reap the healing benefits!

    It's so funny because I hadn't thought about sprouting for years and then when Covid hit, I started sprouting back in February because I realized that if our fresh food supply somehow disappeared, I could just grow my own fresh food! I've been sprouting for 6 months now and I love it! I have always maintained a year's supply of dry starches (rice, beans, lentils, oats, etc) just as a normal level of food storage, but I have struggled with how to incorporate fresh veggies in the mix until I discovered sprouting. Now, with sprouting seeds, I think I've got it solved. So great to hear this interview!

    I too was very nervous about sprouting until viewing this video. Erin, thank you for asking about safety concerning mold,etc. It sounds like being scrupulously clean with sanitizing the kitchen environment and sprouting equipment along with diligently rinsing can prevent a host of problems. As always, wonderful job producing an informative and educational video. I appreciate all your hard work! Thank you!😊

    • @EatMoveRest

      It’s definitely easier than you think, even though it takes a couple days, it is very hands-off! Soak first, then rinse a couple times a day for a couple days, then pop in the fridge! I suggest starting with broccoli and alfalfa sprouts!

    Please, please address this sprout-based question: my mom is very ill but willing to do a high raw vegan diet with me. But, whenever she has tried, she has gotten hyperkalemia (dangerously high potassium) not from kidney disease but from diet. We are really struggling trying to find foods she can eat in abundance to be mostly raw vegan and are low enough in potassium to not trigger hyperkalemia. I think maybe sprouts might be part of the answer!!! Are they low in potassium?

    • @jeanneamato8278
      @jeanneamato8278 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sprouts are low in potassium. Contact Dr. Michael Greger at NutritionFacts.Org. He’s the best.

    • @michaelvictoriareese
      @michaelvictoriareese 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Umm djd121, unless you're a doctor, I don't think so. And even if you are, second opinions are sometimes needed and I've spoken with about half a dozen doctors who specializes in this area and it absolutely can be diet related (without any kidney disease). Medicine doesn't know yet why this can occur but there is some indication in research of geriatric medicine that there are older populations who appear asymptomatic for what would be considered hyperkalemic based on blood levels of potassium WITHOUT kidney disease and therefore this issue had not been widely researched enough as to why. Unfortunately, my mother is not hyperkalemic without symptoms and has had to be hospitalized in a cardiac unit due to dietarily induced high potassium. Also, any superficial and cursory glance of medical websites aimed at the general populace would prove your statement not factually accurate and false. While there are those that can healthfully consume high potassium diets full of fruits and vegetables (I as a high-raw vegan am one) without issue and YOU may not have hyperkalemia resulting from diet, others can. Trying to extrapolate your personal experience as medical fact is dangerously based on anecdote, not science.

      Tassia Lawrence, eat more cooked starches like beans, oatmeal, potatoes, etc. And if that still doesn't do it, add nuts, seeds, avocado and coconut.

      Read about the importance of your gut microbiome in Dr. Will Bulsiewicz’ new book Fiber Fueled. You will understand why doing colon cleanses are not a good idea for your health.

      How do you cleanse your colon? Enema? Colonic?

    • @demesrvl6761
      @demesrvl6761 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The healthiest way to cleanse the colon is to eat a variety of plants containing soluble and insoluble fiber, and then let peristaltic action do the rest! "Cleanses" like colonics and enemas destroy the natural balance of gut bacteria

    Do you have issues with using jars and having them rot? I've tried sprouting broccoli seeds in jars and they smelled horrible even with consistent rinsing and draining. I was told it could be from the breakage of the sprouts due to the nature of using jars.

    • @kristyh982
      @kristyh982 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve only had issues if I use too many seeds and leave them in the jar too long. I also have these neat plastic lids that fit the wide mouth masons and have little feet so you can tip the jar completely upside down for good drainage.
