  • Does the thought of wiring a bike make you cringe? Is it holding you back from taking on a build? I used to be the same way. In fact, the first build I ever did sat in my garage for years because the wiring portion made me not want to even begin! Now that I've been doing this for a while, I've made a simple, easy to understand guide for how to wire your motorcycle from scratch, which can be seen @ www.patreon.com/DoctorMotorcycle
    Current videos on Patreon Include
-How to Turbocharge your Vintage Motorcycle, Draw Through and Blow Through; A Complete Guide
-How to Wire your Motorcycle From Scratch, with No Experience
-How to Shorten and Modify Clutch And Throttle Cables
Watch me build this non-running CM into a trail worthy Scrambler/Enduro. The finished bike weighed in with gas at 275lbs, and the taller gearing and upgraded carburetor/open exhaust helped it reach a top speed of 80MPH (stock is about 58-59).
Parts List/Fluids/Tools I used (Amazon Affiliate links below)
    Fluids/Oil/Cleaning Products
    Fork Oil- amzn.to/3kIrGrM
    Marvel Mystery Oil - amzn.to/2E4VGNP
Liquid wrench - amzn.to/345eN59 (Literally the best for Stuck Bolts)
Chain Wax - amzn.to/30VmARc (Used this for 10+ years)
Air Filter Oil - amzn.to/3fWdyaU (ONLY buy the "super tacky", use hot water/simple green to clean your filters, cleaners are a waste of money. Use simple green for the chain too)
Simple Green - amzn.to/2PT60Ln (This lasted me 2 Full builds, still not out)
    Thread Locker - amzn.to/3iMfTad
    Gasket Maker - amzn.to/2E7Or7v
    Parts
    Speedometer - amzn.to/3ouMd53
    Handlebars- amzn.to/3fVAerD
    Exhaust- amzn.to/3apz32s
    Link pipes- amzn.to/3fTeSv2
    Mirrors- amzn.to/2DS8VBu
    Gas Tank- amzn.to/2E1ePAf
    Clutch Lever - amzn.to/3fWNJr5
    Electrical Connectors- amzn.to/2Q0lkFT
    Fiberglass Mat- amzn.to/3aokfBo
    Fiberglass Resin- amzn.to/3asDQAn
    Carbon Fiber Wrap - amzn.to/2Y20dYa
    Tools
    Automatic Center Punch - amzn.to/2Y20rP0
    Drill Bits - amzn.to/2E88NxO
    Cordless Drill - amzn.to/3gXn4M4
    120v Cutoff Wheel - amzn.to/3gXZvmx
    Chain Breaker - amzn.to/2Fk4DmQ

*Edit 1-3-2021 The popularity of this video has surpassed even my wildest expectations. As of today, it's closing in on 500k views, which to some might not seem like much, but to me, is incredible! I wanted to give a big thanks to everyone that has shown support. I'm humbled and thankful for this opportunity to share my passion with you! -Jimmy
There were many challenges during this build. I'd never used CAD in my life, never used a 3d printer, never done fiberglass, never edited a video and many more "first time" things. Trust me, there were many frustrating days of chasing issues. I had to completely redo the fiberglass work TWICE, the batttery box went through 3 different revisions, the jetting took multiple days etc. Just watch this knowing I'm not some wizard who breezed through this, I almost gave up in frustration more than once. I hope this video inspires people to keep pushing, keep challenging yourself. Thanks for watching, much more content to come!

I am so glad you soldered those connections. I see so many people use the crimp on connectors without solder. I don't expect their connections to last all too long.

    • @nathanielpea5819
      @nathanielpea5819 3 ปีที่แล้ว

To solder requires flux in one format or another, which eventually corrodes metal over time. Bullet point connectors well fitted are genuinely a better option.

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

For sure man. They're pretty light for being twin cylinder bikes as well. Just the lack of power and the 185's being a 4 speed kind of sucks. It would barely do 30mph in deep sand.
I'll do another one day, and swap in a cm250 motor and hop it up a bit. Really didn't want to sell this bike but the next build needed the funds.

I just got a 78' CM185T for free a few days ago. Now you're making me think of what I can do to it and I don't even have the title yet. It was kept inside since the 80's but was left out for a year recently so it needs work, but it runs and it only has 2k miles! I haven't driven it ye because the tire are shot (I think they're original, like everything on the bike) and I haven't cleaned the air filter or carb. I don't really know anything about bikes but I think this'll be a fun project to start and work on.

( I'll might have some typo issues, bear with me) Wow. Amazing. I'm got a free 1982 cm250 rust buck I'm trying to on the on the road. Someone really did a hatchet job on it before to me. It did not run. Beggars can't be choosy. (I'm on disability because of a bike accident)
I'm trying to add some back end. No plays for tags and lites-- no fender. I have the frame two pipes like you have 08:04 A piece of rebar it fits in the holes perfectly snug. I'm gonna try to pay someone help me bend some rebar so that it can slide in and out and lock with a clip, I'll make a longer one to carry carry luggage. Simple rebar with a an 180 bend.
It is crazy how much my bike looks like you-- if you squint in the dark. Yours looks new, mine like Mad Max. I actually have my brak and turn signals mounted on top of seat rite now. Both my tires look like your front. Same colors. I have short pipes that no come up tho.
