I'm so old that I recognized that milk bottle before you even said anything. The bottles didn't really change that much between the bottle you dug up and the milk bottles of 1958-60s. As a kid we used to get milk delivered all the time in those same style of bottles. It wasn't too long into the 1960s that milk delivery came to an end in our area, probably about 1961-62. It might have survived longer in different states, but the demand for it was dwindling. People had to go to the grocery store anyway and they had more control over getting that milk into the fridge before it spoiled. I don't remember the milk being delivered in any protective case. If you weren't home, the milk spoiled. Of course, back then most women were housewives and they were always home.
That was very interesting to read , I love to hear people’s memories
We got ours delivered in upstate NY till the early 70s the farm supply us with an insulated cooler to leave on the porch, he would put it in the cooler along with heavy cream, eggs ❤
My best friend during those years also had milk delivered to their home. Her mother always wanted the milk without the cream separated. She would let it sit in the fridge for a day and then scoop off the cream herself. For some reason she believed it was better that way. @@bethcorey6022
I feel you. We must be near in age.
I was born in 1969 and still remember getting milk deliveries. I was in Washington state near Seattle.
I think you really need to make a video showing the different bottles Tool top what that means and all the different styles and terminologies how much the bottles are worth.. I think there's plenty of us who watch your videos who would love to know that
And if it’s not already posted, how you clean them up so amazingly well. I’ve never been able to pull that off with mine.
My home was built in 1915. I found an old Jergens Lotion bottle laying in the mud filled with dirt. Took it in the house cleaned it out. So beautiful!!!! Love bottles and vintage and antique things!!
Young man I watch your videos with great interest. I'm in the UK, but that doesn't matter, your enthusiasm and knowledge of what you do is so very interesting! An excellent viewing experience.
Some freat finds in this pit..i love that you put the side notes up, in the frame..keep up the great work!
Lots of ketchup bottles in old dumps..oh by the way did y'all hear about the tomato boot camp?..a company of tomatoes were marching to a inspection..but one recruit was lagging behind..the gunny tomatoe rushed up to him and stomped down on him with his boot and said.."KETCHUP"😬🍅😁
Love your channel. You find such neat stuff and I love how you give info on what you find. 😉😊👍🙏💕❤
The bakelite tube you found is part of an atomizer. I have one that is similar and the glass bottle says 'THE TUBE OF THIS ATOMIZER IS MADE OF ONE PIECE PAT. MAY 8th -- 1894' I'm not sure if it is bakelite though, it's a strange material. The bottle you found right after that could be the atomizer bottle for it.
Was going to comment the same thing. Old atomizer stem and nozzle. The piece he unscrewed off of it should have been the spray nozzle.
That bulb along with that tube with the screw on the end was probably the atomizer for one of the perfume bottles. My grandmother always had one on her dresser. I remember it from my childhood and I am now 85! My grandfather went to veterinary school at Indiana University in the late 1890s. At the time he knew to use peroxide for cuts and wounds to clean them out so they will heal with less scarring. If it was good enough for the animals I'm sure they did the same for people, cleaning out wounds I mean.
Just subscribed.
In 1971 my brother and I dug up an old outhouse from 1952.
We found lots of old bottles. We were 10 and 11 years old. Great memories!
haha that reminds me of Toms story. (this is jake, the editor by the way) he told me he got started doing this when he moved to an old farmstead when he was 9. sometime after that he ended up finding some old bottles in the woods. then he looked them up online and he read about how they threw them down the outhouse. and he ended up finding the outhouse. Makes me wonder how many little boys have a similar story! anyways, thanks for subscribing, glad you found the channel!
I just happened to stumble across this video and WOW, this was amazing! I can't believe all the artifacts you found, even in just one hole. And that dirt is to die for; I live in NE Georgia where the soil is red clay. I would kill to garden in that soil - so lovely.
I was thinking their soil was beautiful too.
Deep prairie soil
I love these digs prior to 1900. I am 70 and many things after 1900’s my grandmother had and I played with them. So the older ones I’ve not seen
I just discovered you. Wow, my father was a bottle collector. He'd crawl under old houses looking for old bottles and treasures. If he was still here, he would be mesmerized watching you. You are very young , how did you get started? It makes me happy to see young adults getting interested in simpler olden days. Anyway, keep it up young whipper snapper. We are living our dream thru you❤
Who knows perhaps your Dad is watching while chatting with one of the fellas that tossed a bottle down the hole a hundred years ago. I love when simple good memories are shared, thank you.
It was only simpler because when you were young the adults didn't tell you what was going on. :)
I recently found a buried cache of bottles on my property. Most of the ones I've pulled out are from the 1930s to the 1960s. There are many more to discover.
Wow. I really enjoy your videos. I love old bottles and things like that. But I’ve been in a wheelchair for almost 25 yrs so can’t do things like you do. So I really enjoy watching you and a couple of others digging up the past. Stay safe and God Bless
You can tell that you love what you do you get so excited when you see new things keep up the good work 😊❤
I wish you guys had a store to buy bottles from. They are so neat to see.
What a great find of mini bottles, all different shapes I love them. Other than that fantastic mixed lots. The flat bottle rings a bell with me as a very early babies feeding bottle, the teat was pulled over the opening, I may be wrong. Thank you again so enjoyable to see these treasures.
That could well be, also, he found the breaat pump parts also furthering the evidence for that theory.
I'm very happy for you guys doing what not many others will do.... One thing: If it's possible could you please make the description of the bottles at the top of the screen just a little larger for us oldsters Who have been unable to read the tiny print... Thanks again for your hard working off screen crew who are editing and keeping your digs very well done...'Cept for the tiny print...if it's possible at all.....❤
I have to pause video and enlarge screen in order to read info. A lot of trouble, but worth it!
Before my surgery, all I could see was fine print. Now I am like you and would appreciate larger images. Regained distance but have lost close acuity.
I was born in Yankton, so it’s especially fun to watch these episodes! Thanks for sharing it with us. 💜
You do a great job of offering info while digging.
I absolutely love watching as you delve into the unknown for treasures, or what might be great finds. I don't envy what you do, but do admire what you do. The dirt and the muck and the aged poop, well, to repeat, I do watch and admire,
WOW! I just stumbled across one of your videos and can't stop watching. It's like each site is a time capsule. Such amazing finds. And I love how you put up the history of the items you find. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us 😁
I am now subscribing and watching more.
The dolls head you found at 27:17 is creepy af... maybe there is a reason it has been buried for over one hundred years!!!! I think it's great that you find all these buried treasures...I do the same in the NJ pine lands.. Awesome channel!!!!!
1st Dig - Found a Little Girls broken Doll Face - very moving ! Good Array of old 1890's Bottles and a Breast Pump Rubber - wow ! Great Dig and History Preserved ! Many Cheers from Australia !!!! 2nd Dig - a huge Doll Head - wow ! Glass Gun - now that is Cool ! Early Stuff - great that You will keep most ! Many Cheers from Australia !!!!
Great finds Tom. Keep up the excellent work. 👍
That odd shaped blue bottle you couldn't identify with the bent neck makes me think of possibly a small personal oil lamp. Possibly an ink bottle, but inkwells are usually a pretty standard design. I can't imagine anything else that shape would have been used for. Very unique.
Possibly perfume?
A bunch of nice bottles. That one looks like a baby feeding bottle. Love them all .Tom awesome vodeo
What a great way to spend my Labor Day holiday - binge watching your videos. Loved how old the finds in the second pit were.
The tubular bottle with the flat bottom is an ink bottle. I dug one of these which I still have in Eugene OR in the mid 1980's along with at least 5 master inks within 5 blocks of U of O when I was in school there. Rare bottle.
Insane awesome dig. Congrats Tomster on all the great finds.
The finds are great but I want that dirt in my yard! Our Tennessee red clay is like concrete! Love watching you dig!
I, too, was completely distracted by the quality of that dirt!
What beautiful soil.
Tom I was born and raised in Huron South Dakota we lived 1/2 mile north of the airport road on the Eastside of the road. Back along the creek on top of the hill there are old Indian rings I would love for you to check out the area and see if you could dig some artifacts.
Absolutely loved this one ! Great job I enjoy the different ways you are explaining and pictures of the missing labels.
That oil lamp is insane!! ♥
Love watching you work. This is an old one even more interesting
Fun…love finding things. In a new home, we took down valances …uncovered padding -- that WERE HAND MADE QUILTS OF SUCH PRIMITIVE BEAUTY…that I was absolutely agog in my luck. I still have them.
Thank you for taking us along for another great dig !!
Congrats on 71,000+ subscribers. I remember leaving a comment early on that you would be getting alot of watchers. I have been working alot and finally have a few days off so I'll be binge watching. I have alot of episodes to watch that I missed. 👍
Lamp was amazing and the canning jar. Amazing Tom
We love your videos. Your finds have helped us identify some of the old bottles we have found. I bet you would find some good stuff on our 1857 Farmstead. The house itself was built in 1875 and it might be the oldest farmhouse in the county that is still standing and in use. The last used privy spot has been found but the earlier ones, and the trash pits, are still a mystery.
Love the oil, tilted bottle in 1st hole and the kerosene lamp in the last hole....the pickled bottles are nice...can see them with wild daisies put in them...I love them all 😮...keep on digging...🥰🥰
Wild digging - Yeah! UK ❤
I just found you and now I want to go dig up my back yard! 😃
haha i get that comment all the time! well... if your house is older than 1900 than i can pretty much guarantee there is something buried out back.. most people didnt even get indoor plumbing until the 30s or later. gotta look for the sink spots! the ground seems to settle over time! thanks for watching, glad you found the channel

Great video- really well done. Thanks!
Great dig. Nice variety of stuff.
Tom and Jake, awesome digs.👍😀👏
I always was interested in generations gone by. I collect insulators, some of which are Whitall Tatum in my collection. Now from watching this, I know they make much more. love antiques, glass bottles, old houses and buildings. Such a wonderful video. I am from Connecticut. I have subscribed to this channel.
Awesome finds Thanks for sharing 👍♥️⚒️🇺🇸🗝️
Unique finds. So cool.
Thanks gentlemen 🙏 ❤
I unearthed a 7 Sutherland Sisters hair tonic bottle in my yard. I don't know if you know who they were, but they all had hair averaging about 5 ft long, so P.T. Barnum sold a hair tonic along with a photo of the sisters to promote it.
Wow!!! Lots and lots of early great stuff!!! God Bless!!!
I don’t have the patience for this kind of stuff. Thanks for bringing us along for the most interesting part of this hobby
Out of curiosity, what do you do with all the bottles you dig? Are they valuable? Have you ever considered doing a video of your best/ rarest finds? Maybe a video simply explaining the different types of bottles? ie…. What do you mean by tooled top or machine made ect… Thanks! I really enjoy your videos!
Following!!
"Tooled top" and "machine made" as well as "turn mold", "blob tops", and other terms denote the different styles of production. Blobs/applied lips ar when strips of molten glass are pasted onto the top of an unfinished bottle to make a lip. At times these lips may be sanded (ground lip) or grinded down (tooled top) to make a smooth, neat finish. Turn molds are when the bottles were made in a mold that was designed to evenly distribute the glass via a turning mechanism. Machine mades are as it says, made by a machine. These are just a few of many terms we use to describe our finds. Aside from production techniques, we have funny names for different shapes of bottles etc. etc.
@@dai-nippon_digger thanks so much!
Why were the pickle bottles so small?
@@katiestover8954 sometimes it didn't have pickles (pickled cucumbers). It is known that they would sometimes have horseradish or other pickled goods that would otherwise be difficult for the average homesteader to make at home.
Very cool watching this. Makes me want to jump in and help. I'd love doing this!
Great dig.Interesting finds.
Great job guys!
The perfume bottles with stoppers and liquid in them, do they still have a perfume scent?
Fun to watch!
I really enjoy your videos! 2 questions…
First, do you have a video where you go into more detail and show how you initially research your sites, obtain permission to search, probe and determine the best location to dig?
Second, do you sell some of your finds somewhere? Thanks again
awesome digging
Excellent work
Like this a lot .Ì've always been fashinased by old stuff,so this is mutch up my ally❤❤❤
Great finds, lots of different ones than usual !
Great dig love it
At the risk of sounding gross I'm going to ask the question that someone asked you months ago. I didn't see that anyone answered it. You said you see a lot of tomato seeds in the outhouse pits. Could a person plant those and have heirloom tomatoes? Not that I would. I just wondered. Thanks Tom.
I think it would be worth a try. I know scientists recently grew a plant from thousand year old seeds.
It's hard to say, but it's possible stomach acids made them unable to grow.
What a fun dig,as always!
My dad and I planted some tomato seeds that were 35 years old. We didn’t expect many to grow but we got 35 plants out of maybe 200 seeds. The viability would depend on dark and dry environment I think…
In one of his very early videos, the guys DID plant some found seeds...and they checked back to find...living plants!!!
Great job
This is SUCH a cool video!
The lamp base is really a neat find whole.
Lots of interesting and one or two rare pieces.
Great dig Tom! Some damn good drugstores!! Congrats and to another great video!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
I'm so looking forward to a new video please 🙏🙏 🗝️ y♥️
Pretty inpressive hunt and item descriptions..enjoyed it...subscribed.
Thank you
Memphis, TN - 1950s. We lived out in the country, and the milkman came at the crack of dawn. He left the milk on the porch. It was in glass bottles with a little piece of cardboard recessed in the opening.
Those were two great small pits!!
This is like going through my mom's spice cabinet.
I'm old enough to remember Milk delivery would come thru the Alley at my Granny's house in the mid 1950s.
I enjoyed your treasure hunt.
My back hurts just watching these videos.
Hi Tom ,I sure enjoy your videos ! Will you be making some new ones soon ? ?
My thoughts are your first dig you got into the most recent outhouse, the other one was the first one before they dug the new one👍
I was looking at some of my bottles and I have a big brown medicine bottle that's dated 1845 on the bottom.
Patent year. Interesting. From where?
Working shallow stove ash dump with glass from later 1890s to around early 1920s and found that exact bakelite piece! Wasn't far from a baby bottle so I'm guessing it's from a breast pump or went with a nursing bottle.
That bottle with the angled neck super cool. Maybe some kind of alcohol burner? I drove thru Yankton this summer to get a feel for your digging stomping grounds. Pretty chill and relaxed vibe.
