Long story short. The korean ships thing was when a south korean fishing ship caught a North Korean submarine in a net, they called the military, the NKs in the sub killed themselves to avoid capture. They had South Korean food onboard so they were going on shore to resupply. They were on an espionage mission from what I remember.

7:51 is probably the 1998 Sokcho Submarine Incident where a North Korean submarine got entangled in a fishing net, and the crew of a fishing boat saw part of the submarine's crew trying to free it from the net. The fishing boat reported this, and the South Korean Navy sent in a corvette. (I also gathered all of this from Wikipedia)

Id say its a 1v1, the fishing ship hit the submarine with a net causing the crew to end up dead, fishing ship survived, sub crew didnt. Sounds like a 1v1, even if both parties didnt know it was a 1v1.
You're kind of high if you don't think the sub crew would have killed the fishermen if they thought it would genuinely get them free and safe. Theoretically. There's many many theories.
The fishing crew does get credit for taking out the North Korean sub out just like the Ukrainian civilians who turned off the power to an elevator with five Russian soldiers inside. The reason the fishing crew gets credit is because they had a choice between releasing the net on their end and sailing away in total safety. Instead, these unarmed civilians held onto their side of the net until their military arrived. That act of bravery means they get the credit.

This wasn't a safety brief, but I might possibly be responsible for an updated dorm policy at the college I attended after getting out.
Without doxxing myself too hard here, I went to a conservative Christian college after getting out, living in the dorms because it was cheaper than rent and buying groceries. It's against the rules to bring alcohol on campus, not so much because they're opposed to its consumption as it is for the potential of underage drinking and whatnot. Anywho, the rules specifically said that you couldn't *bring it onto campus.*
If you inner barracks lawyer and/or E-4 brain just kicked in, you see where I'm going with this.
Being the former enlisted, twenty-two year old with some at the time undiagnosed and untreated mental issues stemming from seeing shit overseas, I wanted alcohol in my room. I also didn't feel like getting caught bringing it in.
So what I did instead was got some large water jugs, a shitload of honey, some bread yeast, and some balloons and made myself some Nordic happy-juice.
I was never officially caught, but the following year after moving into an apartment off campus, I saw they had updated the rules in the handbook to include *making* alcohol in the dorms. No one ever talked to me about it, I never received any counseling for it, but I feel like it's pretty obvious they changed the rules because I was making hooch in my room.

This HW is similar to the office worker getting yeeted out of a several story building window for a good idea. The navy has lots of things applicable to this meme as the navy discourages actual useful ideas. Instead they opt for "the good idea fairy" which for those of you that don't know is actually "the terrible idea that will cause more work and unnecessary stress on sailors but was thought up by some higher ranking person so he/she can put something on their FITREP so that they can say that they did something fairy."
I bet the NOKOs didn't actually lose that sub. Probably a cover story to protect the crews family members after they defected to South Korea. (I know that's not what actually happened, nerds.) 😑

@@Ghastly_Grinner If I remember right, the sub was captured by a fishing boat. The South Korean navy dispatched a Pohang-class corvette that towed the sub to port. En-rout the sub sank either by damage sustained or due to the crew scuttling it, most likely it was scuttling as I doubt a fishing net could cause enough damage to sink a sub. 3 days later the sub was salvaged where it was found that the 5-man crew had been executed by 4 others who then turned their guns on themselves. I've heard the 4 were either agents or North Korean special forces.

On 22 June, a North Korean Yugo-class submarine became entangled in a fishing driftnet in South Korean waters approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) east of the port of Sokcho and 33 kilometres (21 mi) south of the inter-Korean border. A South Korean fishing boat observed several submarine crewmen trying to untangle the submarine from the fishing net. The South Korean Navy sent a Pohang-class corvette which towed the submarine (with the crew still inside) to a navy base at the port of Donghae.[1][2] The submarine sank as it was being towed into port; it was unclear if this was as a result of damage or a deliberate scuttling by the crew.[3]
On 23 June, the Korean Central News Agency admitted that a submarine had been lost in a training accident.[4]
On 25 June, the submarine was salvaged from a depth of approximately 30 metres (100 ft) and the bodies of nine crewmen were recovered; five sailors had apparently been killed while four agents had apparently committed suicide.[5] The presence of South Korean drinks suggested that the crew had completed an espionage mission.[6] Log books found in the submarine showed that it had infiltrated South Korean waters on a number of previous occasions.[7]
The bodies of the members of submarine crew were subsequently buried in the Cemetery for North Korean and Chinese Soldiers.[8]

7:50 Look up the Sokcho submarine incident. I was a Sonar Technician in the Navy and actually did a number of "presentations" on this incident back when it happened. Also, it looks like someone edited the original Wikipedia article in the elements screen or photoshopped it. A fishing vessel did witness the event, but the Sokcho, a South Korean coastal patrol corvette towed it into port.

I know I'm months behind but here's a sorta cliff notes of the submarine vs fishing boat:
In 1998, a South Korean trawler pulled up a North Korean midget sub by surprise. After seeing the sub crew cutting the net the fishing boat called the S. Korean military who sent out a ship. Crew reentered the sub and buttoned up and while it was being towed by the S. Koreans it suddenly sank. A few days later when it was pulled up they found 9 bodies, 5 sailors and 4 spies. The spies had apparently executed the sailors to prevent them from being captured alive and revealing sensitive information before killing themselves. That's the sorta cliff notes version.
It's known as the Sokcho incident in 1998 and there is a Wikipedia page on it that has been corrected (though I feel the fishing boat should be apart of the strength since it technically disabled the sub).

I was at a retirement party for our Senior Chief back in 1990 at Long Beach Naval Station Mole Park. A Gunners Mate Chief threw a whole MK79 pen flare kit in the bonfire and when it popped off one of the flares hit some squid in the face and put his eye out and the whole thing turned into a shit show, Shore patrol, Ships command, NCIS. It's all fun and games till someone gets their eye poked out!
