The Big Mountain caused Gloria to provide the clarification. You guys are becoming media titans!
🤣
" media titans!" LOL I just spit out my coffee.
At this rate, they'll have a paywall before you know it. !
😂
NO WAY. HATE PAYWALLS!
In listening to other shows that talk about the MWC and PAC-12, it seems that fans of teams that are in these a conferences have become a Hatfields vs McCoys. The shows that talk about these two conferences almost have to take sides. I see more support for MWC.
I hope they get past this. Both conferences should be able to be successful and resume business relations with each other.
Another TH-cam Channel "Couz Corner" mentioned you guys over the B1G/SEC/ACC issue.... 👍
I believe the media has a likability to Gloria, she is a straight shooter. The fact that CBS and Fox were hurt by having the teams poached by the PAC Two , and the PAC leadership still acting the way they do. It’s all about the media, and Gloria is a better person to do business with. The egos in the PAC is still an issue for many, they should merge and let Gloria take the helm
100%. If the pac and mw merged it would be very good for all and the media rights gains would follow…
Irrelevant. She could be the nicest person ever, but networks only care about money. If the viewership numbers are there, they get a better deal. Without Boise and Fresno, the math doesn't add up. My feeling is that letter is a warning that there isn't gonna be a big TV deal. It's gonna be another piecemeal contract with 8 or fewer televised games per team. The MW has gotten noticeably weaker, and doesn't have any big draws left.
Interesting timing! Simple fact, the MWC lost their top brands under this commissioners leadership. But I am glad the MWC has survived, the commissioner has done a good job in trying to survive.
Unfortunately I don't see a merger since the MW already has added several teams.
It could happen but they rev sharing and pac12 money would be very stratified. No way the pac12 schools would share their payouts with MW schools and no way BSU and Fresno etc would accept equal shares with smaller schools. It would take a lot of negotiating and backtracking but would have been cool had they worked it out to begin with. Would be a great Bball conference and good football too.
The PAC offered Memphis a low ball offer to join and I would bet that they low balled UNLV as well.
You get what you pay for.
Very informative show guys!
The fact that Gloria even needed to issue a 2nd statement in two days says a lot. Where there's smoke there's fire.
Not necissaeiky.
We have seen a lot of smoke the past 18 months and there hasn’t been many fires with them.
It’s the quiet stuff that gets ya. And they are usually the biggest.
As a Coug fan and a Pac fan, i really like Gloria Navarez. If they were to ultimately merge (dont know if that happens after all of this) I'd love for her to run the show as comish
She is a class act.
@@TheBigMountainPodcastAs a Boise State fan a reverse merger with the MW taking the PAC brand would have been so much more entertaining. I hope the PAC works our
The Ovies and Giglio podcast here in NC mentioned you guys briefly on their latest podcast yesterday taking the ACC/ESPN deal.
It was very kind of the one gentlemen to crap all over us before listening to the show. Really deep diver there!
But that’s how this game works.
And to be clear, yet again, we don’t do this for likes, subs, or $.
Just look how many major realignment videos we do on the B1G, ACC, SEC. Not many.
Boys us Dwellers don't hold anything against you guys, give it to them straight and if they don't like it then tough Frashizle!@@TheBigMountainPodcast
Thx Dweller
Those guys are tools.
Merge the Conferences and call it the PAC West and put Gloria back in charge.
No thanks
The Pac doesn't want at least half of the MW schools, and I can't blame them.
@@bp2608 exactly
Gloria was in charge when it all fell apart. No confidence in her ability.
Merger? You gotta be a fan of one of the left behind teams.
Potential higher PAC12 media distribution vs. MWC exit fee + MWC retention payout + PAC12 exit fee. The media distribution differential would have to be pretty big to get UNLV to jump, especially if they feel that they have a good shot at getting into the B12 in the next 5 years.
I know it was only briefly mentioned here but you guys have talked a lot about Tarleton State to MWC. I don't get that. Maybe to replace UNLV if they leave but right now it doesn't make sense. None of the possible FCS promotions seem to add value (at least not in FB) and the MWC aren't desperate to add another member. I know the TX addition would be good but Tarleton isn't located in a major city so it's the weakest of possible TX additions that have been mentioned.
Haven't read the comments yet but guessing someone from the bottom half of the MWC calls for a merger. Nothing says football attendance and facilities investment like SJSU, Hawaii, NM, Nevada, and UTEP. Your show needs to jump ship and focus on the PAC in 26.
You don't understand the pissing contest? This could lead to entire football programs folding. I wouldn't expect a Penn State fan to understand.
It seems like having a signed grant of rights without an accompanying TV contract doesn’t really do a whole lot. A GOR (when you think about it) just creates an agent/principal relationship with the conference and the member institutions with regards to negotiation of a TV deal. That relationship already existed when the conference was formed.
Exactly. Every contract lawsuit in realignment involves the monetary damages the school imposes on the conference. If there is no media deal, there is simply no solid numbers to back liquidated damages on. How could you damage a conference when there isn’t a deal to break or money to be lost? Until something is signed with $$ figures, I doubt it’s very solid. That goes for the PAC and MWC.
It’s a good point.
But a GoR is now common place and it grants the media rights to a conference, technically outside of membership.
More of the usual hot air...the courts will decide not people who wear pajamas to work lol
Does the GOR make it as hard for UNLV to leave as FSU leaving the ACC
UNLV got a sweetheart deal to stay in the MW. They can leave for a P4 with no exit fees. But they are gonna be rebuilding again after Odom left, and truthfully, they've had 4 winning seasons in 30 years, so nobody really wants em.
How can they have a grant of rights when theres no media deal?
Granting the rights to the conference.
It just means the schools have given the right of negotiation to the MW when it comes to a TV deal, rather than brokering one themselves. It gives the MW more power at the negotiation table because it serves as a bloc or coalition... Now, the MW can tell CBS and Fox Sports that a deal will include those markets, which can translate into a bigger overall deal.
New Mexico basketball in itself should be in the pack
I'd bring in just their Olympic sports but football?
Nooooooo! MWC wouldn't allow it
People keep bringing up “merge the 2 conference” just doesn’t understand the business behind the scene. The only school left the PAC wants from the MW is UNLV. The PAC doesn’t want Hawaii, Wyoming, San Jose St., Nevada, & Air Force. If the MW is willing to dump these teams, then ya a merger talk can take place but they can’t cause if the schools get dumped, they can sue the MW cause they signed a contract.
The merger talk folks are from the left behind schools.
Can't stand Navarez for her handling of the MW coed volleyball league. She should be leading the effort to kick San Jose State out of conference. Their football program is somehow respectable but they have high-school level attendance at all sports (including football) and virtually no interest among TV viewers.
That stuff is pretty terrible
Somewhat respectable football? LOL. SJSU football has had 6 winning seasons since 1992, and 3 of those were 7-6 years due to bowl wins against even worse teams. They belong in the FCS.
@@MrProy33 And yet their actual in stadium attendance is about 4,000, how is that belonging in the FCS.
@ That is comically bad. They belong in Div II.
@@scottyclayton2501 Um, which is petty terrible, my comment or Navarez's action or SJSU lack of attendance?
Have you guys looked at the 1/30 Monty Show? According to those guys the P12 and MWC are back in talks to do a full merger because the P12 with their current new members would only get 8 million, but if they did a complete merger they’d get 15 million. I think those guys are way off. I watched that a day after watching John Canzano talk about the new P12 AD meeting, and the word John got they all seemed upbeat with how the media deal is progressing, and and seeing how the P12 studio is producing for different sports they like what they see.
Monty is a complete idiot and has been wrong at every turn with this whole realignment.
We have not
Monty is completely wrong on merger talk. You think the outgoing teams and the Zags wanna merge?
If they said that, they are way off. Media partners won't give more money to BSU, ZAGS, SDSU, WSU, etc. for bringing along SJSU, HAW, NM, RENO, etc. UNLV and the PAC talking again likely sparked all this, probably Mullen told the AD that UNLV can't grow in the diminished MW, and they are looking at individual options, some fans/pundits leapt to merger, not likely.
@@andrewwhipple7162 I agree. I don’t know how adding Nevada and Wyoming would somehow add more value than Fresno State and Boise st.
rebrand = The Big Pacific Mountain
That would have saved a whole lot of money, lawsuits and headaches. Just convert the PAC-12 and Mountain West into divisions.
@@CarlaJenkinsTV Agreed. No need to break up the MWC.
The old MW Schools left for a reason. They got tired of propping up the bottom end .
If they had done a reverse merger, Gonzaga would not be joining
You remerge folk aren't seeing the Pac pov.
Exactly
Pacific West
Things aren't going well for the MWC. They lost their best programs and are desperate. Do you think the outgoing teams would have called for NIU and UTEP.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your sources? Lol😂!
🤣
Well played
Sure the lump sum payment that UNLV would receive by staying in the MW would be nice. However, their football program and university as a whole has never been more relevant than they are now, credit to Barry Odom. They are a couple lousy seasons away from being a bottom feeder conference team and the doors of possibilities closing in their face. The new PAC 12 is a more lucrative position to be in for the future and beyond. If they know what is best for them, they take the deal while it is there.
I would argue that the university was more relevant under Tarkanian, when they were winning bball nattys. But you are right about football. With Odom gone, I think they should have jumped before they slink back to being the 4-8 team we all know them as.
Do you think that Memphis, Tulane, USF and UTSA will get to the Pac 12 soon?
We do not.
Memphis and Tulane are unlikely.
USF is a no.
UTSA is possible.
@TheBigMountainPodcast where does Memphis and Tulane go? They want out of the American.
@@rayrayrivers6135
The money is not there for them to leave in time for 2026. There is a possibility of 2027 when the exit fees will be lower. That makes UTSA and UNT likely targets as their exit fees will be $10 mil.
ACC
UNLV to the PAC at 60 percent.
75%
Full share as they are financially better off in the MW with a reduced share.
I also wondered if you guys were the first to make noise about UNLV.. which caused her to release this statement. 😂
We were not. Rumors have been swirling for a while.
But I’m not sure if others have been talking about the GoR like we have been.
@ on another note loved the info for the potential ACC invites to Tulane, Memphis and USF.
