I just made this recipe but used my home canned peaches. Used the light syrup from the peaches in the cake, plus a bit of lemon juice (a tablespoon to add some zip) and topped with the peaches and a few raspberries (ala Melba)- delicious!

I need to get myself some oversized muffin tins so I can try this out. A similar shortcut version I remember from my Boy Scout days assembles a similar combination of ingredients on a square of aluminum foil, except it uses an old fashioned (cake) donut in place of using raw cake batter. Wrapped tightly and sat for a few minutes on the coals (usually after steak and potato "foil dinners") they always came out delicious!

My grandmother had a push button Kelvinator refrigerator… These look delicious.. I watched a lady make them yesterday and I bought the stuff to make them this coming weekend. I work 12 hours a day through the week and only 8 on Saturdays so my escape from the world is baking . Sometimes I make simple stuff like this and other times I actually create something. 😊

Wow my dad used to make the big cake version of this for dessert on Sunday afternoon dinners in Winter. Since getting diabetes, I have to make a keto version of this but with almond and coconut flour it will be good. I can get pineapple flavoring plus monkfruit caramel style brown sugar substitute. Bake with stevia or monkfruit sugar substitute. With unsweetened pineapple and a tiny cherry for looks, it will be a great alternative for us keto and diabetic dessert lovers. It CAN BE DONE!

Hi, guys. Your recipe choices always interest me. So. thanks for another one. This happens to be my absolute favorite cake. Coincidentally, I made this last week in my 10” cast iron skillet. I make it from scratch, folding in whipped egg whites at the end, but I tell you what, your recipe is very appealing. I’m going to use a mix next time. Just as an aside, when they downsized cake mixes years ago, The Cake Mix Doctor recommended adding 7 level tablespoons of flour to the mix. I always do so, because the mixes are too skimpy now. The extra flour makes up the difference.

I am so happy you made these! I recently made these with the residents at work. We used regular size muffin tins and they came out too ooey gooey at the bottom. We put too much butter and brown sugar at the bottom. We used our new tabletop Oster oven (convection). I didn't make a conversion from regular oven to convection. Anyway, after watching this, I want to try it again with larger muffin tins. Any suggestions for making the conversion for baking? I read to reduce the temp by 25 degrees. Any suggestions are welcome! :)
Hi Going Slightly Mad! Actually, I have never used a convection oven before, so I don't have any advice about how to convert for baking. I would guess a lower temperature and/or shorter baking time, but I'm sure there are some directions online somewhere. Hope your next batch come out well - thanks!!

I wanted to know if you have ever thought about making a water pie or water pie with Sprite. My grandmother was very good making a water pies. She said you made them during World War II and they started during the Depression then they started out a Sprite later on when it was available. It is really cheap and it was great to make during war times when sugar was rationed and during the Depression. Could you tell me how do you make those delicious cakes without the Duncan Hines cake mix? The Duncan Hines cake mix is like cheating some and I making my cakes or anything else from scratch. Like the time I made brownies in my 1925 Everhot stove and they came out fine. So when you can give the recipe that would be nice. Robert

Thanks so much for the tip about adding flour to the cake mixes. When they downsized from 18oz I wasn't sure what they were taking out, but I could see the difference in the cakes. I'll give this a try next time I use a mix. Thanks so much!

I am so happy you made these! I recently made these with the residents at work. We used regular size muffin tins and they came out too ooey gooey at the bottom. We put too much butter and brown sugar at the bottom. We used our new tabletop Oster oven (convection). I didn't make a conversion from regular oven to convection. Anyway, after watching this, I want to try it again with larger muffin tins. Any suggestions for making the conversion for baking? I read to reduce the temp by 25 degrees. Any suggestions are welcome! :)
Hi Going Slightly Mad! Actually, I have never used a convection oven before, so I don't have any advice about how to convert for baking. I would guess a lower temperature and/or shorter baking time, but I'm sure there are some directions online somewhere. Hope your next batch come out well - thanks!!

Hi, I would like your opinion on if I added a little crushed pineapple in the carmel mixture or adding crushed pineapple to the batter, will it make the cake sink?
Hi Jennifer - if you use just a little in the topping it shouldn't sink the cake, but I don't know if I would add it to the batter. It might add too much moisture. Thanks!

I wanted to know if you have ever thought about making a water pie or water pie with Sprite. My grandmother was very good making a water pies. She said you made them during World War II and they started during the Depression then they started out a Sprite later on when it was available. @@cavalcadeoffood if you can't find the recipe I can get it for you. I still got it my great-grandmother taught me how to make it. It is excellent. It is really cheap and it was great to make during war times when sugar was rationed and during the Depression. In fact I made one just lately what the help of my friends who could see when everything in the store was so short. It was so delicious I had to make four more for my neighbors

Could you tell me how do you make those delicious cakes without the Duncan Hines cake mix? The Duncan Hines cake mix is like cheating some and I making my cakes or anything else from scratch. Like the time I made brownies in my 1925 Everhot stove and they came out fine. So when you can give the recipe that would be nice.
