Watching this from Darjeeling , right after visiting the Himalayan Mountaineering institute where I saw all of the equipments used by Tenzing and others for the summit .
Its also sad that people like you dont bother to find out the whole story, what most climbers themselves say about the sherpas, what, for example, Hillary did to give back to the people of Nepal, and what sherpas themselves are also able to do now to give back to nepal because of the industry,(if you want to do something, go to the apa sherpa foundation instead of just leaving racist comments) and how the Nepalese government is adding to the death toll. There are good and bad people on both sides. The only people who were concerned with who was two steps ahead on the summit were the media. The fact is that neither man could have done it without the support and cooperation of two countires, without armies of men from two countires, and without each other. The hillary step is so named because Hillary was the first to get over the step and because he was a first summitter.
Not true. He got full credit. At the summit Sir Edmund Hillary took Tenzing's photo but did not want his own photo taken. They were good friends on the climb and remained so. Tensing and his family were brought to the U.K., and he was quite a celebrity. One of his grandsons played the voice role of Jin in the Disney movie Everest.
Are you actually a racist? Saying sherpas dont get credit because they arent white. They deserve just as much credit as anybody. Sounds like you are the one discrediting sherpas.
I feel such respect and admiration for this man. It would have made my day to have met him. What a noble, humble and wonderful man!
Amazing man of humble origins. His son is great too.
Yes totally agree.
The First Man on Mt. Everest ..Great ! One of my Heroes
Tempus Fugit... 70 years ago coming up... Sirdar (sherpa leader) Tenzing Norgay (1915-1986)
Why is he not known as the first man to climb Everest? Hillary was behind him!
@@dannyherron9455 The English and Hillary let him go first because he's a countryman, I think that's decent.
@@dannyherron9455 Hillary was a good one too

Tensing, cadê aquele sorriso lindo, quando da primeira expedição.
Not that it matters because the both did it together but Hillary summited first and offered a hand to hoist Norgay up.

He got tons of credit in Nepal, India and China. Hillary got almost none there because he was white. Goes both ways.
Doug you’re a depressive creep who will never get credit for anything regardless of your skin color, go away.
