Interesting take on Halloween Ends Doc. I hung on every point until next thing I knew it was nearly over. For an hour long review, it really flew by. Thanks Doc!
I love the sister angle. I think it makes Michael more mysterious. “Oh cool random kid just wakes up and wants to kill everyone just for the fun of it.” While having Lori be his sister I always asked well why does he want to kill his family? What happens when he gets them all? What made him just snap and want to kill his family? None of those questions go with him just being a killer who kills everyone. It’s like the joker. He just wants anarchy while with the sister angle adds so much more. Having a motive that we don’t know is far more interesting.
Thank you for finally stating that Michael saw something in Corey’s eyes. So many reviewers talked about it being something supernatural or a psychic connection and used that as justification for hating the movie…so good on ya for calling it out for what it is.
Honestly, I didn't have a huge problem with Halloween 5 doing that psychic connection, I just feel that there wasn't enough follow up to it. Then they made a decision to introduce a confusing to be explained in 6, which they had no idea what it was at the time.
Halloween Kills heavily insinuated that Michael was supernatural at the end. It says Michael gains power the more he kills. He took a beating and multiple gunshots from a mob of people as a 61 year old man and got right up. Then in Ends he’s a decrepit old hermit in a sewer? These movies had no fucking clue what to do with him
I'm glad some people enjoyed this movie, but it honestly felt like they didn't know where to go with the plot after Kills and we ended up getting this convoluted climax that felt very underwhelming. In my opinion the original and Halloween 2 are the perfect beginning and ending films in the franchise and nothing else is ever going to come close to those movies.
Halloween Ends actually made me interested in reading the novelization, which apparently pulled from a few different edits of the script for Ends. The ending of Ends is…not as happy as the movie. And I really wished they would have let Corey live. Have him be his own Boogieman, but more violent and human. Let him keep the bike too, lol.
This movie is certainly controversial. This trilogy need to make up its mind? Is he supernatural, or is he just an ordinary human. I don't care what anybody says in Halloween Kills he was supernatural.
Kills he was defenitly supernatural. I feel that movie painted the writers in a corner they didn't know how to write themselves out of. How do you kill the unkillable so they just came up with an entirely diffirent angle for Ends just so they could conclude the trilogy.
The town has also evolved in this series from being just sorta normal to having this air of evil or even mystical darkness, it reminded me of Twins Peaks where it seems normal-ish but brewing beside it is a tumor, in a way similar also to Lynch's Blue Velvet.
The idea of taking the final film of a trilogy and focusing it on random new guy we’ve never seen or heard of before was such a bizarre choice? And the established characters basically being sidelined was even worse. Also these films are not consistent at all with what Michael is supposed to be. The whole film was just so unsatisfying.
Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 helped keep the franchise going. They are the best ones and deserve more respect. They were more loved when they first came out and it's sad. This new timeline is hard to get used to.
Halloween Ends, in concept, actually isn’t inherently bad, but I feel like it should’ve been used for another movie in the franchise. The biggest gripe people have with this movie, including me, is the fact that this might be the last theatrical Halloween film we get in a while, and it felt like it went out on a more of whimper than a high note
I honestly did not expect Malek Akkad to immediately put together a 2 movie deal and shop the rights around lol. That's how poorly received Ends was. Even John Carpenter has gone on record to shit on the movie.

I like this movie… just not as part 3 of this story. It’s flaws to me are really it’s attempts to shoe horn in a final battle between Laurie and Michael, and that kills built a lot up that is left dangling. This would’ve worked well as a sequel to film with more definitive conclusion - such as h2, h4, or even the 2018 Halloween! And yeah there’s no way that this is the original plan. I feel like the whole character of dawkins and the flashbacks were trying to build up to something that never came
Yea apparently when it got delayed bc of covid they rethought ends and rewrote most of the movie for some reason I would like to see what the original script for ends was
I really wish someone would take the idea of having Michael team up with someone and take it a step further. The whole thing of Michael realizing he has become weak after so many years and so many battles, and that he needs a disciple is so interesting to me. It's such a weird take on Michael, but I also think it works really well, specially with this version of the character, because again, you never really know what drives Michael. You can't ever be sure what motivates him, why he kills who he kills, or why he spares some people. So having him suddenly do something unexpected, like have a sort of partner to pass the torch to was something I was really into. It sucks that it was kindda wasted in this movie tho.
I’ve always thought that Halloween works better with a smaller cast, not many side characters and a simple setting. It’s just not a story I think should be told from a cinematic viewpoint. Halloween Ends was some horse shit
I had scrubbed Halloween Ends from my mind. I have always tried my best to focus on the positives to any art because I know the effort that artists put into making it but Halloween Ends is irredeemably awful. No Michael is the least of it's problems. Nobody's motivation makes any sense. Why does Allyson IMMEDIATELY fall for an awkward weirdo? Why is Laurie insistent on hooking them up? Why has Laurie decided that now, when Michael is ON THE LOOSE, is the right time to "move on with her life" when she's been obsessed with him for decades? Why does the town hate Laurie for uh, surviving a serial killer attack?? The whole story is nonsensical. And without Michael being interspersed throughout the narrative nonsense to at least make it fun (like he did in Kills) there's genuinely no reason for this movie to exist. It's worse than Halloween 6, Resurrection and Zombie 2.
You may not like the movie but it is definetly better then Antman vs Micheal Myers, Buster Ryhmes vs Micheal Myers and Micheal Myers deciding to talk. I'd go so far as to say it's better then 5.
@@Throbingkcoc the only thing Ends has over any of those movies is the way Michael looks, which doesn't even matter because he doesn't do *anything* in this movie.
I’ve never been so angry and disappointed in a movie. DON’T mess with my Michael Myers! You didn’t even need a great storyline when you’ve got the best version of Michael Myers ever (James Jude Courtney). Just let him wonder around town doing his creepy boogeyman thing. It’s not a complicated formula when you’ve already nailed Michael. And JJC really really hit it out of the park with being Michael. 6’3” 200 lbs is the perfect size. Not too big but still intimidating and not too little. I don’t know how you can get a better version of Myers and we were robbed of seeing that version one last time.
I'm not against the ideas Halloween Ends show. The idea of a replacement for Michael Myers has been played with before in the series, and I would be down for the idea. The issue is that they pretty much made a plot that should have taken place after Laurie and Michael's final battle. It would would have been a better film if they tackled it in a similar way to Friday the 13 Part 5 where Corey is being built up as the new killer except they actually commit to it. Hell, you can even add the element of ambiguousness around it with Michael appearing to Corey, making you question if he's actually alive again or a ghost haunting Corey's increasingly unstable mental condition.
The statement that Ends was always intended may not be solidified by the alternate ending, but the Kills documentary shows some clarity in it. During the 78 flashback, David calls out the radio tower in a distant shot that he mentions would he featured in the sequel. This at least shows evidence that Ends initial version has been on the table before production.
23:09 I live by a mall called Midway Mall in Elyria Ohio. I joked that Haddonfield in this movie is like a cross between Elyria Ohio and Brooklyn because of how trashy it is and since so many people have random New York accents.
That hour really flew by, its always great to hear your opinion on these movies, specially as a fan, thank you doc for your hard work on another ahhctober and happy Halloween !
I'm glad that I've been seeing more people come out in defense of Halloween Ends. It wasn't at all what I was expecting but I ended up really liking it and I feel like a lot of people who hate it seem to just want a movie where Michael is going around killing people. And thank you for addressing the state Michael was in to explain why he seemed so weak in Ends. The guy is nearly 70, had the hell beat out of him, and was living in a sewer for years likely surviving off sewer water and rats. It's not a perfect film but it's one of my favorite Halloween sequels as well, I think ranking it right after Halloween 2018 (with the original still being my favorite, of course).
I keep coming back to watch this video again and again. It's just a really well made review/essay about what makes Halloween franchise what it is and thus explaining the appeal and idea behind Halloween Ends. Using the 'last' Halloween movie that feels like an epilogue to make a review that's introspective about the whole franchise is just brilliant :)
❤ I've been watching your reviews for 3 months now and have been anticipating this review and I have to admit. Of all the horror channels I follow THIS review of Halloween Ends was the best one I have watched yet. Your insight and commentary painted a very accurate and insightful picture of not only Halloween Ends with its enjoyable moments and also all its flaws. I actually learned things I didn't know before. I can listen to you talk about horror movies all day. And the fact I just watched the review for that weird Baker 80s movie a week ago and now I see why you reviewed it tying the character to Corey just blew my mind. I really hope you do a nice long retrospective video soon. I'll become a top subscriber if you do !!!!
Imagine a new Superman movie coming out where he's barely in it and when he is his powers are taken away by kryptonite the entire movie and he gets beat up by a nerd then again by lois lane at the end. That's Halloween Ends. Absolute trash.😢
I really liked Halloween 2018 and wish they would've stopped there. The ending felt perfect. The two sequels felt like total cashgrabs. But Hollywood can never leave well enough alone I suppose.
20:20 the unplanned comedic timing of the kids death made me laugh my ass off. I enjoyed Halloween Ends. I really liked that the movie brought back an idea from Halloween 4. Where the Priest tells Loomis that "you can't kill evil. It just transforms." Then later in the movie after "killing" Michael... Jamie puts her mask on and attacks her foster mother. The 5th movie went back on it but the implication was that the evil that had a hold of Michael transferred to Jamie making her a new unstoppable killing machine.
Great vid, but the original ending wasn't to have Myers bleed out but for Laurie to cremate him and be infected with his evil as well. I'm a bit surprised you didn't include this note since it leads into discussion of deleted scenes and content we still have yet to see beyond the novelization. Would love a follow-up video about Ends (and the trilogy) if you ever get around to reading those, that'll definitely provide some more post-Blumhouse Trilogy content!
@@AaronCoats-i5m It wasn’t scary, it didn’t feel “Halloweeny,” the villain (Corey) sucked, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode were both wasted, and the ending was a huge letdown. It’s like DGG and co. had completely run out of ideas for Halloween movies and decided to rip off Christine instead. But other than that it was fine.
This film happened at the wrong time, it would have been better if it was start of a new trilogy. Even then, everything with Corey feels so forced. And the way the town treats Lori is just gross, blaming her for Micheal when it was all the doctors fault in the 2018 film.
29:18 How has no one pointed out that Allyson is a nurse four years out of high school? Even if she was a senior in 2018, she'd still have a lot of school left.
I really don't understand the hate this movie gets. We already got the best sequel to the original Halloween with 2018, and a more extreme version of that with Kills, I'm glad they did something very different with Ends. It's weird but I'm glad we got something weird instead of a repeat. I also like Halloween III, so I'm glad that we have another 3rd movie that is just totally off the rails again. Feels like a spiritual successor while being very original.
Damn I didn't even realize the black lady Sandra who got stabbed in the throat in Halloween Kills was the same lady in Halloween 2018 talkin ay the cemetery
I'm surprised nobody has caught on yet that Corey Cunningham's name is a synthesis of Corey Feldman and Sean Cunningham. Am I the only one who noticed?
This is my early Christmas present! For real, been waiting with anticipation since last Halloween for this one. Thank you man, and Happy Halloween 2023
I watched all 57 minutes and I gotta say you did a GREAT job polishing this turd, but IMO its still a turd haha. I dont know why they thought the audience would give a hoot about Corey all of a sudden in this movie. Its a bit of a bait and switch. If, as you said, he was woven in from the first one, I would have been on board. But it was very ham-fisted, and they certainly expected a lot from an audience of one of the most popular horror franchises to think theyd want to watch Haddonfields version of "Twilight".
No, no, nope. Dr. Wolfula may have the vernacular and the lexicon that could persuade the viewer into thinking Halloween Ends was a "misunderstood" movie, but to me (and most people) it was trite and a kick in the shin to all of the true fans.
Why mm is my favorite horror villain is because I find him the most compellingly scary, at least conceptually. The shape is haunting because it has no motive; it is evil unfiltered and pure. It's that lack of motive that makes him almost supernatural, as if something not of this world broke into our reality on Halloween and chose an innocent child as a vessel. Simply the blackest eyes. For me, that's who Michael myers really is, and that's when his lore is at its' peak imo. He's not a mentally challenged momma's boy like Jason. He's not a perv after his own desires like Freddy. He's not inspired by scary movies like Ghostface. Etc, etc. But in this movie, the babysitter is full of motives. His obvious motives made his victims all the more obvious and mundane. This could've been an interesting movie if it had nothing to do with the Halloween franchise. That's just one major problem I have with this film as part of the Halloween franchise. I don't have the number of texts to type all the other ones 😅
This entire trilogy feels like a disconnected mess. The first movie was a really great return to form, and just felt like classic Halloween again. Then the sequel all of a sudden wanted to be a blood bath with some of the dumbest characters of all time, and shoehorned mob mentality commentary, all the while sticking Laurie in a hospital the entire time with nothing to do. Then this final movie goes even more off the rails by introducing a brand new main character and kicking Laurie and Michael to the side, only to do a half assed final fight at the end. This movie was marketed so heavily on their final confrontation and it was lame asf
Ends wasn’t an End but a huge disappointment! Almost as big of a disappointment like Avatar the Last Airbender was. Incredible lore but fumbling to tell fans what they should want instead of giving them what they want.
This movie was so incredibly boring. I saw it in theaters and I was so tempted to walk out. I was checking my watch the entire time. Such a disappointment compared to the previous two. This wasn't just a bad Halloween movie, it was a bad movie in general.
I’m still fully convinced that the Halloween franchise only has 2 legitimate timelines of continuity that I think the fans can accept. Timeline A - H78, HII, H4, H5, H6-P.C., & H20 & Timeline B - H78, H2018, Kills, & Ends HIII is doing its own thing, Resurrection & the theatrical cut of H6 are the only films that can easily be dropped from cannon, and the Rob Zombie films are its own continuity. I’m sure most fans can agree to that instead of the “choose your own adventure” angle that makes it more confusing than it is.
Honestly this is a Underrated Movie, Yes it has Flaws and issues but I enjoy it for the Most Part and I still believe that the Rob Zombie Movies are Worst.
Ur review made me appreciate the film more. I still dont like it personally, I actually wish the film just went all the way with making Corey the new Michael. It would've made me respect it more. My biggest issue with the film is i sympathized way too much with Corey. I didn't wanna be scared of this poor guy or hate him, I actually rooted for him to turn his life around.

Yeah...until Halloween 6 takes a dump on this.
Thank you Wolfie and a happy Halloween everyone, go team GHOULASH!!❤❤❤
Thank you for finally stating that Michael saw something in Corey’s eyes. So many reviewers talked about it being something supernatural or a psychic connection and used that as justification for hating the movie…so good on ya for calling it out for what it is.
Honestly, I didn't have a huge problem with Halloween 5 doing that psychic connection, I just feel that there wasn't enough follow up to it. Then they made a decision to introduce a confusing to be explained in 6, which they had no idea what it was at the time.
This movie was trash 🚮
@@Chadsolderbrotherbrad1111 it was decent
supernatural elements are good! People are so boring for rejecting them
Halloween Kills heavily insinuated that Michael was supernatural at the end.
They did Michael dirty in this movie.
𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚍𝚒𝚍
They really needed a scene where Michael holds Coreys waist as they ride on his motorcycle.
A whole hour riffview of Halloween Ends I am so pumped for this. Happy Halloween Dr.Wolfula. Ready to enjoy this masterpiece.
bahahaha not what you were expecting?
Review not riffview!
@@ThrobingkcocYou could interpret it as him being somewhat supernatural in that the Evil is the only thing keeping him alive.
For me, The Shape has always been supernatural, from the very first (and only one that actually matters) movie.
5 is the best sequel after 2 and 3.
@@randycunningham7318😂😂😂😂😂
H2018 = Pretty darn good
Kills = Meh
Ends= Oh hell no.
Wolfula Reviews = 11/10
Exactly my feelings as well. H18 is generally pretty good, Kills is... weird but it's fine. Ends is just a spit in the face and kick in the balls
@@NoxMonstrumdude you're blowing smoke out your ass he's literally said (it's different but it's good I'm proud of his direction he took the movie) all yall gotta do is Google it and you can watch videos of carpenter talking about it on TH-cam
Anyone who hates Halloween 3, but likes Season of the Corey simply can't be trusted.
Happy Halloween!!! 🎃☘️
Halloween 3 is my favorite sequel. Probably why I have more favorable feelings for ends than most.
@@SkuteI wish they went with that Shamrock factory making Michael Myers masks along with other masks.
@@Invidente7it would have made all the strangeness of Ends worth it. Leave all the supernatural events happening because of the Silver Shamrock masks. I would actually like Halloween Ends if they tossed that in there.
I liked Halloween 3 and hate Ends
I hate season of the witch but I like Halloween ends atleast ends makes since and is entertaining season of the witch doesn't make a damn bit of since and is boring
These movies are full of decent, interesting ideas that are ultimately executed in the most clumsy, first-draft way possible
This movie angered me more than any movie in recent memory lol
As always, a great way to end halloween with the great Doc
She falls for Corey immediately cause he’s DDG’s self insert so of course he’d get to bang Laurie’s granddaughter. Great going DDG, real subtle 😂
Halloween Resurrection is the worst there is, the worst there was, and the worst there ever will be.
First Halloween movie that I feel asleep
Still better than parts 5,, 7. and Zombie's installments.
Halloween Ends: Season of the Bitch
I came to the realization that this is over an hour of cope after hearing the defense of the no-chemistry love story.
Not gonna lie, your review of H-Ends is much more enjoyable and likely more rewatchable than the movie itself. It was just such a chore to watch.
If Ben Tramer has a grandson, then that means he survived!
But him and Laurie never got together 🥺 or at least didn’t last
@@JThom529 sadly I don’t think this Laurie would be able to hold a long term boyfriend for long. How she had kids must have been rough

Happy Halloween, Doc and Ghoulash. Wishing everyone an AWESOME Halloween 🎃
Ending a franchise by introducing a completely new character and also a completely new concept, is such a weird thing to do.
Happy Halloween, Doctor Wolfula and Ghoulash. 🎃
Am i wrong for laughing when that brat at the beginning fell off the stairs?😂
Nope😂
Whenever corey cunningham isnt on screen, people should be asking wheres corey cunningham
Another detail I just picked up on, Corey and Allyson's relationship also seems to mirror the lyrics of Don't Fear the Reaper.
Imagine a new Superman movie coming out where he's barely in it and when he is his powers are taken away by kryptonite the entire movie and he gets beat up by a nerd then again by lois lane at the end. That's Halloween Ends. Absolute trash.😢
EXACTLY
Disagree
This is a false equivalent lol
Not even close
Less goooo, couldn't wait for this long ass review, and I'm really happy about! Happy Halloween 🎃
This movie had so much potential. If only we got a scene of Michael riding bitch on Corey's bike.
I can’t stop thinking about Halloween Ends either, Doc… can’t stop thinking about how BAD it is!
!!!!
It really wasn't that bad
It really wasn't that bad
@@AaronCoats-i5m It wasn’t scary, it didn’t feel “Halloweeny,” the villain (Corey) sucked, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode were both wasted, and the ending was a huge letdown. It’s like DGG and co. had completely run out of ideas for Halloween movies and decided to rip off Christine instead. But other than that it was fine.
It's actually one of the best Halloween movies made after the original. Whats with you internet fan boys just wanting more of the same?
I can’t believe another ahhhctober is already nearly done. Thanks for the review doc! Very fun watch as always!
This film happened at the wrong time, it would have been better if it was start of a new trilogy. Even then, everything with Corey feels so forced. And the way the town treats Lori is just gross, blaming her for Micheal when it was all the doctors fault in the 2018 film.
Happy Halloween,
Doc and Ghoulash
🎃 🧡
this one was worth the wait, thanks for the massive breakdown of everything, Doc. Have a safe and Happy Halloween.
29:18 How has no one pointed out that Allyson is a nurse four years out of high school? Even if she was a senior in 2018, she'd still have a lot of school left.
No more Granny Strode with a Shotgun! Make sequels to the abandoned timelines or no more Michael Myers for at least a decade!
Happy Halloween, Doctor Wolfula
You're one of a kind
Michael was weak because the Constellation of Thorn wasn't in the sky, Corey forced him to act precipitously.
Dude stop. The stupid thorn shit is not apart of this timeline.
@@tylersmith2849 Only explanation we ever got?
@@MrLorenzovanmatterho that's because there's not supposed to be an explanation to why he kills.
Honestly the main reason I liked this movie is, its an actual end that's definitive compared to other "final" horror movies.
And that would mean exactly what for Halloween?
@@xavvi It doesn't have to. It's horror fan service in general.
This is my early Christmas present! For real, been waiting with anticipation since last Halloween for this one. Thank you man, and Happy Halloween 2023
It's a hard thing to do. We all want something new and creative, but we also don't want something unfamiliar.
I look forward to seeing Corey Cunningham being a unlock able character in an eventually Halloween video game lol
Happy Halloween 🎃🎃 to Doc! Happy Halloween to everyone else Cheers Have a safe night!
No, no, nope.
Dr. Wolfula may have the vernacular and the lexicon that could persuade the viewer into thinking Halloween Ends was a "misunderstood" movie, but to me (and most people) it was trite and a kick in the shin to all of the true fans.
Omfg.... there's no lazier and stupid phrase on this planet than "true fans". F*** all the way off with that.
The Ben tramer gag at the beginning will always be legendary 😂😂😂
Great to see this vid finally up, Doc. The work you put into this one is some of your best stuff yet.
Did you notice that graffiti that says “Love lives today”? Lmao!!!
The predictable parts hurt my brain, like when she called 911 acting like she was going to commit suicide but it was a trap.
H20 will forever be the Halloween ending. Laurie vs Michael in that film was done better than a 1 min anticlimactic scuffle scene
Happy Halloween, Doc! Happy Halloween, everyone!
Happy Halloween!
Punked out by band kids. That would make me a serial killer too!!!! Great video
We've waited a year!!! Gonna love every minute of this video!!
Idk known why but I lost it when they slit Michaels wrist. Like bro lol wtf
Happy Halloween 🎃
This movie was so incredibly boring. I saw it in theaters and I was so tempted to walk out. I was checking my watch the entire time. Such a disappointment compared to the previous two. This wasn't just a bad Halloween movie, it was a bad movie in general.
I’m still fully convinced that the Halloween franchise only has 2 legitimate timelines of continuity that I think the fans can accept.
Timeline A - H78, HII, H4, H5, H6-P.C., & H20
&
Timeline B - H78, H2018, Kills, & Ends
HIII is doing its own thing, Resurrection & the theatrical cut of H6 are the only films that can easily be dropped from cannon, and the Rob Zombie films are its own continuity.
I’m sure most fans can agree to that instead of the “choose your own adventure” angle that makes it more confusing than it is.
For me it’s H78, HII, & H20
For anyone wondering, Dr. Wolfula was granted the Silver Bolo award on S3:Ep8 of The Last Drive in at the post credit cut in.
The thumbnail made it seem like it was Halloween fame for the Nintendo DS. Took a sec to realize it wasn’t one of the retro game channels I follow.
