    As a mortician who also does (corpse) removals, I can tell you we do our best to weed out potential weirdos like the guy who hits the cow. Unfortunately it’s one of those industries that receives mainly negative press from the media as that’s what sells. So you mainly hear stories about the corrupt or perverse individuals despite it being an industry centered around service and caring for the families who are suffering a great loss. That said- it takes a certain kind of person to work with the dead and it’s not for everyone.

    It’s an easy mistake to make, but the whole ChetTheBringerOfDeath scene was actually a jab at the Horror movie forum community, where Rob Zombie became a member himself). In 2007, Zombie wasn’t welcomed with open arms which, apparently, surprised him… and he’s been bitter ever since.

      I remember RZ was a member of the Official Halloween Message Board in 2006 and people seemed stoked on him. Then the movie came out, and to be honest it would be tough seeing the work you put into it being torn apart by the online community that had your back six months ago. And the comments on his wife seemed a bit out of bounds. She's no Meryl Streep, but then again either was the cast of most Halloween films.

      @@capitalcitygoofball1987 Very interesting! I belonged to another forum (which was a .Net centered around all things Michael Myers), and people basically reacted the same way as you explained. Rob even went as far as to call out this specific site when he was doing press for the first movie. While I agree that fans could have been nicer, I think it also served as a bit of a lesson to Mr. Zombie, who seemed completely unaware that he had critics.

I mean, I liked the movie overall but we really didn't need more OTT trashy characters that we root for to die. But, I do find myself going to bat for him with The Munsters. I'm assuming it'll be family friendly and I'm curious to see what RZ can do with PG comedy. And he is a super fan, although that isn't a slam dunk. I give the sheriff’s grieving scene a little more slack because it’s Brad Douriff and by god, he’s acting his heart out. There’s plenty of films he’s been in like Spontaneous Combustion where the script is all over the place but he still brings out nothing but his A game. Really admirable job and despite some of his cries being obviously silly sounding, I think Rob Zombies the kind of director that just feeds off weirding his audience out with odd takes like that and “unconventional” filmmaking. That or I’m just overthinking it.
    As for the home footage, I agree that there’s really not a sense of connection between Annie and her dad due to lack of worthwhile screen time together but I see it more as a representation of the sheriffs perspective as his life falls apart in front of him and his worse dreams come true, Once his little girl to now a brutalized corpse. The juxtaposition between what his life was vs. what Michael Myers has made it. The grief he feels quickly changes to a boiling rage and due to Rob Zombie’s lack of passion for the sequel it’s really up to Douriff to carry the scene.
    That’s all I have to say, that scene always stood out for me because it’s one of those cases where as it is, it’s not that good but it could’ve been.

    • @yashamaga13
      @yashamaga13 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree. I always see the home movie part of the scene as being Sheriff Brackett's most cherished memories of his daughter as a little girl flashing before his eyes during a time of monumental grief. I think it works great and is by FAR the best scene in the movie (although that's not really saying much). Douriff is phenomenal imo👏

    Considering a original concept for this film was going to be without Michael Myers just focusing on Lori dealing with trauma & becoming a killer , the “it was all in her head “ ending makes sense & what is what I always assumed, this also explains why we never see If Lori shot Michael or not in the opening recap of the first Rob Zombie Halloween movie at the beginning of Halloween 2.

    Honestly I don't mind the idea of 'Laurie dealing with the trauma' plot. It's literally happened twice except here it isn't decades later. It's in the recent aftermath of that original encounter. Throwing in the concept that she actually slips into madness after a point and doesn't recover has potential. Problem is that to do it right I think it would have required a much more subtle approach than what I suspect Zombie is capable of. That said I agree. Resurrection is stupid, but I still get a "turn off your brain" enjoyment out of it. It's still fun in a cheesy way. H2 is definitely my least favorite.
    How it should have been set up, in my eyes, for it to work. Laurie, much like her theatrical version, isn't handling things great, but is making an concerted effort. An effort that is undercut by a lack of sleep as she has nightmares every night which leads to a weaker mental state. She noticeably gets more easily irritated and looks exhausted all the time. She gets its a fight or two with Annie, but she apologizes and mentions said lack of sleep. She's also shown avoiding Annie for the most part because just seeing her best friend brings it all back in the worst way.
    Then the reason why she reads Loomis's book isn't out of curiosity, but because her therapist wants her to confront as directly as she can. She avoids that too for a while, but in ends up picking it up when Sheriff Brackett asks her not to. He HAS read it and knows it would be the worst way for her to learn about her relation to Michael. He just isn't sure how to tell her. She reads it and breaks. This is where she starts drinking, doing drugs, and etcetera in excess because she has no idea how to deal with it. CAN'T deal with it. Then she ends up, as you suggest for the 'intellectual ending' starts murdering her friends plus Loomis, but the movie, at first, makes it look like Michael is. From there she either ends up getting shot or the white room ending is used to suggest she's at Smith's Grove.

    I love Rob Zombie’s style. I think the way the way he shoots his films is great. The death scenes are always over the top and brutal. I just don’t think his rather interesting gritty style doesn’t work for Halloween. If he replaced Michael Myers with an original serial killer he created, I think both movies would be a lot better. House Of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects are great films imo. I also think he could make a great Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. His style just doesn’t translate well to Michael Myers.

    I'll get this out front. RZ H2 theatrical ( I repeat, theatrical) cut is in the top four of my Halloween list. Yes, I freely admit it has huge flaws we have to overlook, like every Halloween film made after 1981 but it was "savage as fuck" as you say, it took itself seriously and had some great cinematography. Yes, I'll watch it all day over the Blumhouse films. Looking forward to your review.

    • @LordAlbrecht
      @LordAlbrecht 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A lot of people don't really distinguish between RZ's h2 theatrical cut and director's when they absolutely should. Theatrical lori is a bit more grounded and sympathetic, even being a lover of RZ, director's cut lori's constant yelling and whining really is pretty much intolerable

    • @capitalcitygoofball1987
      @capitalcitygoofball1987 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@LordAlbrecht Absolutely, which is why I decided to emphasize theatrical cut. And you're 100% right, the DC made Laurie out to be insufferable to watch, and I don't know why RZ didn't leave the original cut intact. But to be fair, I own four different cuts of RZ H1, but until a few years ago only owed the DC of H2 because that was the only cut really on the shelves. Then I saw the theatrical a few years ago streaming and was shocked I hadn't sought out this cut sooner. And to be honest, the opening of either cut of H2 is amazing imo, but it's tough to reconcile when it's revealed to be dream. Some people consider that to be a giant cheat, and I really cant' argue that point but I know I think its great.

  • @deadpoolnerd

    I kinda like the idea of the unrated version. Such dark depressive state Laurie is in, she seems to be on a path that she'd understand Michael. Suddenly "get it". Which would be an interesting different dynamic between Michael and Laurie. Maybe Laurie letting go of everything accepting what she feels is inevitable with her family to slash in her own right. Maybe a new legend of a boogeyman. Yes it's extremely a downer for the protagonist, but I feel so much more interesting outcomes can happen out of it.
