This scene was ahead of its time. An arrogant teacher trying to tell someone else how to raise their kids. It goes on all the time nowadays. Meantime, the self righteous teachers are failing the kids in reading, writing and arithmetic.
What I love about this scene, Uncle Buck defending his little niece from the adult bully. I had to do the same several times for my children at age 6,7.
As a dad one of my best memories was going all in on a teacher trying to tell my daughter she couldn’t defend herself from a boy pulling her hair. I told her to drill him between the legs if he did it again and she did. No way my daughter was going to get bullied and have a teacher stand aside and do nothing.
Unfortunately a lot of primary/elementary teachers are this way. Immature, intimidating, controlling, to make themselves feel superior. Young kids are easy targets.
My first journeyman in the pipetrades was a man from scotland. he told me of what happened after he got his journeyman ticket. He went back home to scotland and was walking down the street, when he came came upon an old school teacher of his. He walked up to that teacher and punched him in the face so hard that the man fell to the ground. I love that tale. It reinforces the notion that they are all good kids. PS his name was also John.
I wish I had an uncle much like Buck to stand up for me against the principle, who was convincing me I was no good when I was set up for something I didn't do. But, on the other hand, a thing like this I learn from Uncle Buck will be a thing I'll do to stand up for my kids, and my nieces and nephews. John Candy? RIP.

There was no need for a dramatic close-up or a musical sting to hammer the point home, they just let John Candy act. Going to School in Scotland early 70's this scene resonates with me. There were a lot of 'Teachers' that were power tripping on their control of children and were only there for a paycheck. The Teachers that loved their job were passionate about it and that, in turn, got you interested in their subject. However, they were few and far between. There were a lot that abused the corporal punishment that was allowed at that time. In some way, i wished i'd ran into those 'Teachers' when i was a full grown man.

I had always liked John Candy up to 1989, but when I saw this movie in the theater I distinctly remember sitting there and thinking to myself, while I was watching it, how Candy had for me finally passed a threshold in his career where he was now...just...plain...funny...simply standing, or sitting, or talking, or merely looking toward the camera--that he was now effortlessly charming, likable and charismatic as a performer. He would remain so for the rest of his career as far as I'm concerned. I guess that's what makes movie stars.
There was tribute to him a few years ago and his daughter was there talking about him, he sounded like a wonderful man.
I love how he says "Moley Russel's Wort" and tries to get himself out of it but only makes it worse.

"Moldy" not "Moley"
judsonkr I'm pretty sure it's "Moley", why would he say "Mouldy" when she's got a mole?
"Good day to you, madam."
...then swaggers victoriously down the hallway to the beat of Tone Loc's 'Wild Thing'.
My mother has been teaching for nearly that long (since 1983) and is also an assistant principal at an elementary school. She's definitely not a cold-hearted hag like this lady here.
How did the landing feel when you dropped the bomb?
How's her mole situation?

@@MCO18 :-) Glad to know.
Fantastic acting by both people
Classic scene
100 years from now someone will be watching this and laughing as I am now
"This door? Oh, the OUTER door. There's nothing on this one!"
I always wanted to have an uncle like uncle buck. 😭😭😭😭
I love this part. This lady it does not matter if you have been an educator for 100 years. You are a waste. A bad educator is worse than no educator!
"take this quarter, go down town, and have a RaT GNAW that thing off your face"... Best line!! 😂
So so funny! John Candy was and will always be the most unique, funniest and most lovable comedian of all time! Forever missed x
one of the great parts of this scene was the drum beat as he walked off down the hall, classic! *plays the beat on his desk*
Wow he is incredible never seen such a fantastic actor like him truly one of thr best canadian actors to have graced the screen across all globes continent wise
The timing of the jokes here are perfect, from Buck slipping up with those mole puns at the beginning, and even Maizy's washing machine quote!
John Candy=Legend. RIP
The Outer Door
" Nothing on this one "
Uncle Buck For Ever 💕💕
One of the most well delivered lines in comedy history. God, I miss this man.
I hope we all have an uncle buck in our family, it’s surely needed today.
One of my all time favorite scenes in any of the movies I've ever seen in my life. I especially love it when she drops her pencil like she just served John and then he makes her look like an ass from that point on
His films always reaches you loved the guy
I wish I had someone like Uncle Buck to stand up for me like that when I was in school.
Uncle buck has my absolute respect.
There's a distinct shifting of power in this scene, Buck goes from being intimidated by the teacher to going into full on beast-mode when a member of his family is being insulted, and thus savagely robs her of her threatening power
Sometimes you really have to tick a person off to find out who they really are.
@@chickey333 That is true, I've made a point never to be angry or annoyed until somebody really pisses me off, last time I got really, really angry the room was silent for at least 10 minutes
John Candy, Shemp Howard, and Dom DeLuise are my top three role models for becoming the best uncle to my nieces and nephews.
Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Who's Harry Crumb, the Vacation movies, etc. etc...... the list goes on and on. John Candy was as funny as they come. We miss him.
Almost forgot Stripes and The Great Outdoors. See? The list DOES go on.
What I like about John Candy was he never tried too hard to be funny it's was always natural and he was always likable I could say something negative about modern comedians today but it's not fair so would not instead I just hope we can gets more of that's kind of not trying too hard and be natural acting back again now and then that's would be great if that's okay 👌🏽😃
What Uncle Buck did was awesome! He sure showed that sorry excuse for a school principal who’s boss.
the world needs more Uncle Buck's
Every time I see someone with a big mole on their face I immediately think of this scene!
"I'm assistant principal here, as you've probably noticed from the indication on the door."
"....This door?"
"THE OUTTER DOOR!"
"Oh the outter door, because there's nothing on this one."
😂😂😂😂
"Sorry"
It takes so much comedic intelligence to appear that bumbling and bashful on command! That bit with the name on the door is one of my all time favourite John Candy "bits". 😂😂
"You so much as scowl at my niece or any other kid in this school and i hear about it, Im coming looking for you".........Hahahahahahahahaha!
John Candy R.I.P
My favorite childhood movie 2:42 "I'm coming looking for you".Her expression was priceless 😀😀😀😀
