Ah I just finished (and loved) this one!! I've been seeing some negative and middle-of-the--road reviews, so I'm happy to see someone who shares my opinion on Gibson's newest! :)

I love that this is based on Carmilla. Totally sold, just waiting for it to be available in paperback!
I arc read it and LOVED IT. I could not put it down and I’ve been SHOCKED at how poorly received it’s been so far from other bookish channels. Thank you for dedicating a whole video to it! I also love how many other people in the comment section loved it, too! ❤
People disliked it?? Wow, awkward for them! Like, I laid out my criticisms in the video; it definitely has some annoying issues, but it’s still a delectable ride!
@@WillowTalksBooks agreed! The moment it was approved, I sat down to read a sample to see when I’d fit it into my PDR and devoured it in one sitting until 3am.
Agreed about the ending. [SPOILER WARNING] I would also argue that the villain wasn’t actually the real villain and that a certain other character deserved a comeuppance. So much manipulative and inappropriate behaviour from a professor.
i was SO excited for this one (i've been very into Carmilla ever since getting into the webseries years ago, and read many retellings and such since) but i started it, and realized/picked up very early on that Carmilla wasn't the vampire and LaFontaine was... and quickly lost interest and dropped it. i'll def come back to it, and your review makes me more interested in picking it back up soon... but damn if that cut the wind right out of my sails right away. i'm so curious WHY the title vampire character in the original.... isn't the vampire in this one. but i guess i'll have to go back and listen to my audiobook to find out!
I’ve just ordered my copy from my beloved local indie bookstore, and I don’t think the staff there will ever look at me the same way again 😅 Dracula could have been cut after the first 4 chapters. It would have been much better as a novella.
Vampire books are not really my thing, except for Carmilla, so knowing this is a retelling/ inspired by Carmilla plus poetry really intrigues me. I'm going to check it out.
What a lovely review of An Education in Malice. I will think of putting it on my TBR list.
Sapphic vampire dark academia? SOLD. You've convinced me I need this book in my life.
I'm really looking forward to reading this. S.T. Gibson has become one of my favorite writers since I read A Dowry of Blood :)

Well now I have another add to my tbr! I love your videos! They are so insightful and an immediate click for me.
