Wueeeh pips got stories. As much as is a good reason 2 be a drunk it has made me know men are never 2 be trusted 4 nothing coz am like if it really is as bad as they say a disease,how come many women as men don't go that way?!. Personally I feel men have been babied like 4ever thru the generations plus their role in the society has been.played down so much such that they even feel.obligated 2 misbehave and waste themselves + many others r empowered ( e.g. when the women would report to his mother only,also the mother just commenting no action taken immediately watching the son go down low, wamama wa soko nyama inakanyagwa na anaenda kureport badala kumkulisha nyaunyo,Karumaido lady having mercy on him and returning the pho e yet she is working with her body) 2 even continue in their way ward ways. I feel nothing 4 those who chose 2 be rude and love the excess coz I know each one of us is fighting their own demons. Why can't men fight,how do women fight yet they pass thru 200% more than a male can pass thru in life. They r a let down and tiz time men stood up and manned up and took they positions esp. Black men and protect the society not this B S they give us. 👏👏 4 him if he changed,Lord have mercy on all females.in the world. Men Wang'ang'ane. Lynn U C if females become credible enough and are no nonsense material from mothers 2 lovers men would straighten up coz they will have no loop hole so watatii na society Itatulia poa sana,then all the SUBMISSIVENESS THEY KEEP LOOKING 4 FROM FEMALES WILL LAND AUTOMATICALLY. JUU angalia si mababa,mabroh,macousins,friends of our bro's, family males,strangers,neighbour men wanasumbua na ata sheria haiwashughulikii vilivyo. I beleive sheria ikiwa poa,society itabalance vizuuuri but they say( I DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE🙄😕🤔) " IT'S A MAN's WORLD. Sasa warun world yao coz this type r the majority we got left. Just saying.

Visiting Kenya last year after twenty years, I noticed alcohol is so glamourised (made up word 🙈). It's on billboards, TV commercials, etc.) I felt very sad. Young people find it very attractive to drink. When I went to the village in Nakuru for my mother's memorial, I was very saddened by the amount of young people lost in alcoholism 😢. I saw young people unconscious by the roadside, I thought they were dead!! But was told they were drunk. I have cousins hooked on alcohol, some died from it 😭😭. I hope something will be done. Here in Ireland, people lost their lives from road accidents due to drink driving. It was a great crisis and the government banned alcohol advertising on billboards and media. The government also sanctioned times alcohol to be bought and served in pubs to 10am-10pn. You cannot buy alcohol anywhere in Ireland outside these times. Because of these measures, death rates on the roads have reduced by a great percentage. A lot of people stopped drinking and majority cannot stand alcoholism. Young people in Kenya and everywhere else in the world need to learn you can have fun without alcohol. You can heal without alcohol. Keep active in sports, community engagement, training, volunteer work, innovation activities, music, dancing, prayer etc. God bless my country Kenya 🙏🏾.

Great post Kadzo. It's interesting to note that Ireland once had to deal with the same challenge but they managed to overcome it. I believe there's hope for our young people as well. The problem with alcoholism is that it's tied up with so many other issues such as unemployment and poverty. Dealing with it is akin to walking on a tight rope because anything can trigger back the habit. These many issues need to be addressed too if we have to deal this scourge a defeating blow. I feel there's opportunity available for us all to make a lasting change. For example, donating to organisations that help alcohol addicts, supporting community based businesses or initiatives etc.

I've been an addict myself and i know how it feels i had to get myself out of that addiction problem..I was top of the class in KU with First class honours degree in Economics had a top job in the government.Was taken to rehab by thw government but never let go of my addiction they even gave me a counsellor but i never came out coz i was also battling depression too.How i came out of that cocoon i just praise God i swear.Addicts are not criminals we normally just need help 😢😢😢
Edits:My parents disowned me due to alcoholism,i did so many embarrassing things as a woman because of alcohol but no one heard my cry of help even my own mother whom i kept asking why she hated me so much. I've had a tough one while growing up never experienced the parental love and that made me hate myself alot. I've been bullied so.much has happened that made me really hate myself and reasons i never have friends always a solo walker.I lost everything including my kids but i started over again.I wish we could have an AA whatsapp group for us to confide in each other and support others too.

Wish Id meet with you...but it's this feeling of wanting to share a story with someone who has been there...Iam hopeful for that chance..
Lynn, this is a touching story. Somebody's real life. I feel for the parents of such children. Iam a victim of this situation and I can say, it is only through God's grace to come out of such a life. I have a daughter, who is exactly the same story of Chris. But the girl started when in form 2, stealing money from parents and after form 4 she became worst, running away from home for days. Sometimes, getting herself into the wrong hands of the law....arrested...being call at night to confirm whether, we know her. When we asked what's her problem, she said she wanted to be taken to rehab. We took her for 6months after coming out, no improvement she became even bad and we thought of returning her to rehab far away. We took her to a rehab for 14months. She came out better and went back again. We decided to leave her. We now concentrated in praying and fasting for sometimes. God is gracious and when we call on His name, He is never late to answer. The girl changed and change completely and now a good girl hustling for her life.
Such real stories motivates someone who is trying to come out of it. May God bless Chris as he embark on his life. There should be no regret but thank God for preserving your life. My cry always was, God don't let my daughter die in sins and God is faithfully.

Lynn am seeing my brother seated with you. He started drinking after losing his job. He has young babies but he drinks like shit. He tells me he wants to commit suicide and because am tired of his behaviors, I have always given him ago a head. He is such a stress to the big hearted wife and the children. He blames me for not helping. I have tried the much I can. I even want him to go to a rehab even though I can't afford now I was told 3 months is 150k. I am dedicatedly watching this so that I can learn and see how to help my brother. Lynne I am tired and his family is tired too. Relatives do not care about his actions even our Dad even though mom is late buy he is old enough to man up. I wish I would learn to help him. I have not lost hope yet but I am tired Lynne. I feel your pain, went through the same with my brothers. Two of them just stopped drinking on their own.They started going to church and everything changed for the better. It was a long journey but we never gave up on them.

Please don’t give up. Be patient with him. You are his last hope. I am tell you out of experience. Right now my baby brother is on internship having graduating in clinical medicine and surgery. It took God and wisdom to see him through. He always told me that I was his only hope and sure enough I committed to assist him. Trust God only to see you through.

Lyn I suffered with alcolism I started drinking at 21 here in Europe I thought aki I don't know it started, the day I stopped drinking that was 2 years ago after I started having pankreatisis, woi its so hard because of the lies I was trying my mum, I guess I started drinking because I thought I was so lonely and I was struggling with almost past memories and I was all alone here and nobody knew it but am greatly greaful I have overcome it

Yesterday I cried seeing my brother in late 30s looking like an old man of 60 years coz of alcoholism.i broke into tears,n i told God it's enough now
Cathy ,pole sana, but please try to talk with him, don't ignore him try to ask him why he is taking Alcohol. My brother reason for taking Alcohol ,he got divorced after Retirement, so he was lonely , he had companies in the Bar ,so it got to his normal life. He passed on 2020 December. So sad.

I applaud Chris for coming around to speak about this. We are experiencing this with my cousin a bright boy who cleared university got a very good job but was also sacked over drinking cheap liquor..... I wish there was a way to help him
Yes you can help him but its untill the boy decided to change for good. If not, even if you take them to rehab , they move out and become worse . This something i have witnessed .

Thankyou for coming out to tell your story. I lost my dad to alcoholism when I was little. I believe he was a good man coz sometimes he would promise us that he will never drink again coz he doesn't want to keep embarrassing us. Addiction is a tough battle. He caught pneumonia after he fell in a mtaro on a rainy night and lost his life.

That's the problem with addictions,it's because it's a demon that controls someone so most times it overpowers someone,one by themselves they can't drink that's why your dad would promise he won't do it but end up doing it without his will,

Lynn what this man is talking about is real. Back in the days our teachers knew what was happening some of them even said nikutolewa usoftie. Kuna wengine ata walikua wanaogopa coz these bullies would indirectly threaten them.
Kwanza sisi kulikua na siku hungewai lala dorm ata the form three and form four would sneak out in the night on Friday to a shopping centre go drink and even sleep with ladies of the night. And upon coming back usiku wanagonga mabox na miti na machupa wanawaamsha muwaimbie na mdance . Heeeee weee nakwambia how I survived all this is God. We umelala unashtukia umeamshwa na ubaya either uendee maji Kwa bafu wife miguu ama uwaoshe nguo .
Some of those I was at high school with didn't make it to form four without inheriting the habit .
I remember loosing a guys trouser ente alikua ameniambia nimuoshe na nimuangalilie hadi ikauke. Weeee nliona Moto, he would call me every evening and abuse me some times threatenbto beat me and some times beat me up .
My God Lynn . I didn't go to school in the 90s like he did but back when I was at high school it was baaad.
You know the funny thing is I have met the people who did bad things to me I looked at them and wondered how on earth. Some I have met are in their worst conditions . I do not judge them neither am I happy about it . LIFE is such a roller coaster waaaaaaaa.
I worked as a bartender in one of the prominent yet discreet brothel in Karen and let me tell u I saw things that are not meant to be seen ,men ruining their lives with young ladies and spending money like there is no tomorrow, thank God I left after I got another job abroad.
Can't wait for part two the way we judge these people when we meet them but deep down they are really going through alot🥺

We really need to start speaking our hearts out I often tell myself that this is the last time I'll ever catch myself drinking and yet I'll be on it by the next morning,tried to quit a thousand times but I'm stuck with it so now all I do is stay alone and avoid people so that I can stay sober for at least a day

Dennis, all will be well. You are willing to change ,God will help you. The only thing I can advise you is changing your friends with whom you take Alcohol with, and if possible place where you live. There is always reason for a beer or Glass of Wine. I wish you all the best dear. Am sad although I don't know you. I lost my brother from Alcohol in December 2020, I know how it is.

His life was interrupted by the trauma in form one. The mind has a way of storing rogue information. The being lined up naked is something he remembers clearly as a setback. Unfortunately adults do not realize how such humiliation messes up our psychi. I hope he went to therapy to awaken that inner child whose dignity was taken away by bullying.
Alcoholism is a disease. The stigma needs to end.

A few minutes into the story and I already relate to the man. There is alot of internal hardships that come with being good academically. When you dont reach the sky it feels like the end. I wish there was education around that. Sometimes our gifts become our curses coz we dont know how to handle them.

Many Kenyan men who attended high school in 90s upto 2010 were thoroughly bullied and beaten in high school. Banning of corporal punishment saved the current kids a lot

Seeing alcohol addicts in my family made me hate alcohol and I constantly talk to my children about how alcohol affects lives praying to God that none of my kids will go down that road

Alcoholism is a pandemic I have seen people very close tome getting destroyed by it ..the moment I came to understand that all addictions have an underlying trauma I stopped judging.I just hope one day they will decide enough is enough.

My grandpa died due to liver issues I see how painful mama talks about his period in hospital.But what hurts me is my cousins took up the habit.

Young people are really getting into alcoholism especially in campus. I've seen people we got admitted in campus with first year but by the time they are in fourth year they cannot do without the alcohol even to an extent of shaking. I kept on wondering why on earth we had bars in campus premises... Alcohol has brought more harm than good 😔

My uncle died because of alcohol abuse and he was a very good nurse.it still haunts me to date.

Alcoholism is a real issue in our society and funny enough most people don't know they are addicts cos unlike Chris they don't shake or remove "lock " n it's important to bring such real conversations affecting so many people. Thankyou Chris and I thank God for your restoration.
