Hey guys, local Singaporean and self-proclaimed food nerd here. Wanted to express thanks for your kind words about our country! I was smiling throughout the video :-)
Really love that you covered bits of our food history and what our small country has to offer. Chinatown Complex Food Centre is truly bursting with great hawkers, some singlehandedly carrying on the legacy of handmade traditional snacks - I highly recommend other viewers travelling to Singapore to visit it too!
Also smiled ear to ear hearing how you both enjoyed the flavours of pandan - it truly is synonymous to flavours of Southeast Asia. I hope you give Bengawan Solo's pandan chiffon cake a try next time (if you haven't). It bursts with pandan fragrance which they freshly extracted daily.
Cheers and hope you guys come back soon!

You guys know the good stuff from the basic hawker food to better (atas) places.
I just had the hokkien prawn noodles last week, and I order the $6 portion to enjoy it fully. And I must say, you guys pronounce the street names and dishes names quite accurate, probably even better than some locals

I ate my meal for the day only 4 hours ago, but your colorful descriptions made my mouth water anyway. Where's a teleporter when you need one?😂 Such a wide variety of foods and all of them looked delicious--the dishes at Candlenut sounded next level. Thank you both for the great recommendations! 💙💙

The Sotang Prawn Mee not being "overly shrimpy..." Makes me think you encountered some Mee that was heavy on the shrimp paste. 🤭🤣 I've had Mee Goreng in Singapore that was so over done with shrimp paste that it brought NSFW comparisons to mind.

  • @auroralvisage

Glad you guys love Singapore and welcome to Tiong Bahru, my hood 😂
One key tip, Hokkien Mee always tastes better if you ask for takeaway. Not sure if it’s because the noodle and stock gets to soak longer in the packet but it somehow always tastes better 😂

Just to let your viewers know, the name Tiong is a Chinese Hokien dialect word for cemetery and Bahru is a Malay word for new. This unusual word combination is the result of Peranakan speech, a mixed Malay/Chinese hokkien language spoken by children of inter marriage between a Chinese and a Malay. So Tiong Bahru means New Cemetery. And of course there were many 4-pillared pavilions there for the burial services. And a village developed there called Kampong Si Ka Teng, a hokkien phrase which means 4-pillared Pavilion village. It was a gangster infested area and it was burned down in 1958 to scatter the various gang member throughout singapore to make way for public housing. I was borned there in 1947 and moved to kallang SIT housing in 1958.
And by the way,the word chope (for reserving a seat) is a bastardised English word chop, like using a seal to confirm a document .
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I drank this and freshly made juices every single day and I miss it. No such thing in central Europe.
