You should read the books/watch the show! There's so many lyrics and layers that send a chill down my spine and remind me of some of the best moments of the books that you just won't get if you haven't read it. I don't think the show follows the same continuity as the books (or if it does it hasn't started on the Six of Crows canon subplot yet, the show is Shadow and Bone on Netflix, season two just premiered I believe). Also, I'm always open to rant/tell you about the books if you want

The plot follows 6 main characters, Kaz Brekker (known as Dirtyhands) who is a notorious gang leader in the bad part of Ketterdam known as the Barrel, Inej Ghafa (known as the Wraith) whom Kaz bought, freed, and personally trained how to be a spy and assassin, Jesper Fahey who is a gunslinger who Kaz saved from crippling debt via a "you join the gang or you die" ultimatum, Nina Zenik (later in the series known as Corpsewitch), who is a Grisha Heartrender (Grisha is a name for people who have magic powers, heartrenders are a special type that controls bodily functions and are trained for combat. They can stop your heart from hundreds of feet away via sheer will) who came to Kaz to help free Matthias from prison, Matthias Helvar (known as Druskelle, which is a type of ultra-religious Grisha hunter from the country of Fjerda) who got thrown into max-security prison because Nina accused him of a crime he didn't commit, and finally Wylan Van Eck, who is the son of a super wealthy merchant who helps Ketterdam and all of Kerch along with the rest of the Merchant Council. He runs away because of a really fucking bad home life and a murder attempt. In the song, Wylan is "the runaway", Matthias is "the con(vict)", Jesper is "the gunslinger", Nina is "the witch", Inej is "the wraith", and Kaz is "the thief as their leader" as he brought the rest of them together to do the Plot Shenanigans, which I think I'll have to post in another comment if that's alright

So Wylans dad hires Kaz to do a "job" of infiltrating the Ice Court, which is the capital of the country of Fjerda and the training grounds for the elite Druskelle fighters, and break out someone who is responsible for creating this special drug called Parem that makes Grisha super-powerful but makes them addicts by 1 dose and is a death sentence by 2. Kaz ofc is only in it for the money (4 million bucks, who can pass that up) and so assembles the 6 of them to go on the heist. Shit goes down, don't want to spoil too much, but basically Kaz's lifelong enemy and fellow gang leader Pekka Rollins is involved. WARNING EXTREMELY DARK THINGS AHEAD!!!! If ya think Kaz is bad so far, Pekka is 10 times worse, and Kaz hates him. Pekka scammed him and his brother, Jordie, when Kaz was 9 and Jordie 13. Ended up making them both homeless and they caught the plague while on the streets, killing Jordie but not Kaz. Oh, it gets worse. Dead people in Ketterdam get thrown onto a boat and burned, and the collectors thought Kaz was dead too. They threw him and Jordie's corpse onto the boat with no escape, and lets just say... corpses float. OK DARK SHIT OVER (for now). This is where "brick by brick" comes from as every time Kaz sees something related to Pekka, he swears he'll tear him down "brick by brick". 2:08 sounds like its about Inej, particularly "I would crawl to you" references a larger quote from Crooked Kingdom that Kaz says to Inej after he rescues her from being kidnapped- "I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting."
Anyway it sounds like this song is from Kaz's POV! Quick explanation of lyrics- "no mourners, no funerals" is basically wishing each other luck before going on a "job". "Brick by brick" is both a promise of revenge and a mantra that keeps Kaz sane in the books. The city and streets the song refers to is Ketterdam, a city known for trade, both legal and illegal, as well as being very unsafe and having a huge wealth disparity. Has a large gambling, drinking, theater, trade, and *cough* pr0st1tut10n *cough* market. Especially known for being a big city where anything can happen.
With a little more rythm at my taste it would be perfect. When I say rythm, I mean raw ferocity, like Ketterdam really is, raw and dangerous. But I love it !
Oh my god…2:06 hits me in my Kanej soul😭 this song is absolutely perfect and I feel like it’s straight from kaz’s mind and that last part..I got actual chills. Truly a work of art. Im so sad it’s not on Spotify though🥲
