My best day on the Gold was 18 steelies hooked and 15 landed...and that was only between 7:30am and 2:30pm (with a 45 minute break for half a doobie and a sandwich.) That was in mid-March of that year (don't remember the year but it was in the '90s. Probably early '90s.) My best fish on the Gold was a 22 - 24 lb. buck caught on a weighted #5 silver spinner.
@@SFOTF Still makes me cry was my first ever trip to the west coast and the first BC river I ever fished and first native steelhead I ever caught. That was 02 my last trip was 2016 had the whole river to myself because by that point is was just a shadow of what it had once been. Talking to the guys who fished it in the 60's-80's said by 2002 was a shadow of itself.
Great videos guys! I fished the Gold back in '04-had a spectacular day. It's the most picturesque river on the island.
Thx Joe and yes, the Gold was such an awesome Steelhead River in its day.
I've fished the Gold in the early '80s. I used to go just after New Years, it was spectacular.
I came across of your channel Great content great video love it!! NEW FRIEND 👍😉🎣🎣🎣

Wow! Such a shame it’s gone 🤕🥵
@@SFOTF Yes, such a shame. It would be interesting to know what, in particular, caused the decline.
Must be an old video as the Gold is now closed to fishing due to poor returns :(
We did this show over 20 years ago when the Gold had a good run of Steelhead.

Yes very sad 😞
The Gold in its prime.. its a shadow of its former self now...😪
Yes, very sad that very few Steelhead are left.
Name a river on the island that isn't. The resource has been plundered unfortunately
@@WildBCFly Yes agreed. :(
