My husband did 3 tours in Iraq and on the 3rd one he must have had a feeling he wasn’t coming back because he wrote a note to my son and left it in the saddle of his Harley telling him he loved him and was proud of him and will always be watching over him … my son is marine now and rides that bike to Arlington every year to visit him on his birthday ❤ semper fi riot we miss you A’HO ❤

I get chills and I'm not a vet. My family came to this country in WW1 because well...my great grandparents were a German man and his Jewish wife...both born and raised in Russia. Noooot a great combo in that time and place so they thought America was the best bet. The soldiers of this nation have made it safe for people like my family to come here and make a life for themselves. So thank you for your service.

My husband was a young Marine in Vietnam; we weren’t married or sweethearts at the time. I knew him; he’s my best friend’s brother. Fortunately, he did make it home! I have watched several reactions to the Riding with Pvt. Malone video, but haven’t heard anyone comment about the buttons on the radio not working right except tuning into the “oldies” late at night. The oldies were Pvt. Malone’s music! They were new when he was alive, that’s why those songs were heard late at night! ♥️🇺🇸♥️

I knew exactly what he was talking about somehow, I just felt so connected. To this day decades later I still can't hear this song without crying full on tears... Thank you for your Service. I am 64 years young and the Corvette has been my dream car for as long as I can remember. I never thought I would own one but about 3 or 4 years ago we found one in the classifieds. It's not a rag top, it's a '79 (which is the year we got married), just rolled over 33,000 miles, and it's mine! This song is my favorite! I love and appreciate our military! I hope that there's a "Private Andrew Malone" riding shotgun! But wanted to say I enjoyed watching your review on this song! Your reactions, expressions, emotions were genuine! Thank you!

I love seeing people's reaction to this song. It's one of those that has a somber undertone under an uplifting course, dipping into what makes you think is gonna be a sad ending, only to flip everything head over heels right at the end. Getting emotional hearing this for the first time should be part of the Turing Test as far as I'm concerned, because if you don't you must be some kind of robot.

Great review of a great song that took years to write and by chance David Ball recorded this track in a basement studio with only 4 instruments.
Many in my extended family served, by God’s grace made it home but I remember sitting in front of the tv the week of my older brother’s 18th birthday watching for his draft number to scroll by. His draft card in his hand however, we all new the number and were silently repeating it as if we were a choir. It didn’t come up. In school we could get MIA bracelets and we also had the option to have ‘pen pals’ with soldiers in country. I jumped at the chance and corresponded with a SSGT from Texas. The only boy of a share cropper with a house full of sisters. I remember that his last letter …. he was going on a helo recon snatch & grab in Cambodia. 4 subsequent letters were unanswered. I got scared. Years later after The Wall was constructed the military would travel all over America with a miniature replica. One was assembled ironically on the Seminole territory in Hollywood, FL. I took my wife and her 2 girls to find him on The Wall. Two active soldiers, MSG & SSG found his name in the Book and walked me to the panel where his name was engraved. My family stay back a bit as, on either side of me, the Master Sargent pointed to his name. The Senior Staff Sargent to my right out of nowhere held up a piece of paper and black chalk. I was overcome, my knees buckled a bit, this 5’ 11” 250lb linebacker in construction was held upright by these two men in uniform. My unanswered letters were now answered and I what I had feared years ago, I now knew.
Yep, this song is deep, in so many ways

I've always loved this song but didnt know who sang it. I think the best part about country music is the story. Makes me cry at times and melancholy. You are so right, a couple of days a year to honor our servicemen and woman is not enough. My husband spent over 20 yrs in the military and he a very proud man and would serve all over again if he could. Even when its by choice its a hard one to make❤

Appreciate the channel. Great song, for anyone who has children they should here “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. Many people have these lyrics in their families bibles. My brothers across the pond should here this.

I always thought of it as his mother selling the car, like she was already so heartbroken, she had to have found the note and put it back, with time it was easier to let go and she knew her son wanted his car to go to someone who would appreciate it the same. Edit: Possibly his Grandmother, I think she might be late 80s early 90s if my understanding of the timeline is right.

I love this song, so much. It doesn't just bring a tear to my eye, but I flat out bawl my eyes out. It was released right before 9/11, so it kind of accidentally fit right in with the Toby Keith and Alan Jackson songs.
