I ended up making seats for my sportspal. Used maple. I slso didnt want just black webbing like most seats available for purchase. Ended finding a set of ratchet straps at princess auto that were green and black. Used that for the webbing. Then just used some 1/8" by 1 1/2" aluminum flat bar to attach to my sportspal. I went over board compared to you for attaching. Put a rivet and 2 #10 stainless machine screw in each bracket. Got it done and installed a few weeks ago. Havent had time to go out with it yet. Was too busy getting ready for archery season. Now to busy trying to fill my freezer with a moose.
Love the videos, just got a old sportspal. Did they have canvas on frame on the early models. Was thinking they were all alum. this one may be from the 70's can't find a serial # and hoping to put some seats in it .Any place i can order that has in stock? I'm in TN thanks again
@fitnesssolutions7100 thanks for reaching out. To my knowledge they never had anything canvas on them. That being said I have seen some silly set ups come in for repair where people used makeshift materials. The best option for seats would be Kenco Outfitters in New York, they can get them shipped to you easily and Bill is a good guy to deal with.
Hey Dave, how is the nylon webbing attached to the wooden seat? I'm making my own and wondering what the best way of doing this is for longevity. Cheers.
I have a question - I ordered the bow (larger) seat for my seatless Radisson. I want to use my 12pt as a solo canoe. Is there any problem reversing the direction of the seat (instead of the canoe itself) so it's on the opposite side of the crossbar instead of paddling the canoe backwards? In theory it should fit the same right? It's symmetrical? I have to get a pop rivet hand tool I guess. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thoughts?
@infie no problem at at the brackets need to be bent to match the hull shape anyway. You can swap the rivets out for bolts if that is something you would choose
@rossklager hey Ross the rivet length is 3/4". Your question about the solo seat position, 12" towards the bow if the thwart or yoke is kept in the original location. 12" gives enough space for your head in between the yoke and seat. When solo paddling the canoe is paddled backwards. Hope this helps Cheers 🍻
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Thanks for the rivet size. I'm only putting one seat in the canoe, looking for suggestions on how much space to leave between front edge of seat and yoke so my weight is as close to centre as possible but I've got room to get my feet under the seat while kneeling.
Thank you Dave for sharing sportspal videos

Good luck on the moose hunt

We use narrow crown staples making sure to wrap around stapling inside and on bottom.

Thanks for posting! 👍🏻🍻
What kind of weight are those seats rated for? Thanks
Not sure exactly wood does vary in strength piece to piece, but I've had guys up to 270 on em with no issues
Dave - 3/16 rivet by what length ???

@rossklager I did one as a solo and the position I gave is the best option I've found.
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Thanks Dave.
