As a kid Balls to the Wall was my jam!!!!!!!! That opening riff was just so chunky and rocking. TNT's singer is in Starbreaker with Magnus Karlsson and its amazing! Everyones a Star was such a good song! You are posting all my favs as a kid. Cinderella Night Songs is still on of my favorite albums. I've been really into King Diamond lately too. I've been just loving digging back into his catalogue. Sleepless Nights!!!!!!!!!!! Scorps are the amazing and Big City Nights is my fav album by them. I loved Skid Row I saw them with Pantera in 1993 at Irvine Meadows for my 11th Birthday

I've always loved Andy LaRocque's riffs (King Diamond). Very european sounding which I like a lot. Also Big City Nights was THE song for me in the 80's. I remember like it was yesterday going 100 mph and losing control of my dad's car, sliding and miraculously avoiding everything in sight just to get to a complete stop and then start laughing nervously with my other 5 passenger friends while not dropping my beer. Stupid kids I know! But the radio blasted Big City Nights. Good times!!!

Regarding the dozen more episodes you could do (16:59) ... I would look forward to each and every episode! All this time, and I thought I was the only one who nerded out and recorded these on VHS and listened to them over and over. We are kindred spirits indeed. ;-)

Woah! This one touched a nerve. I used to watch HBB religiously. When I moved away from home I would have my Dad VHS it because we didn't have cable. Every riff that you played was a classic. It made me happy to hear about hear about your experiences watching the show. HBB was the first time I heard King Diamond. I remember liking it and I think some people thought I was nuts. I'm glad to see I wasn't alone.

Hello, So damn happy that someone like yourself is doing a great job on teaching others about Rock and Heavy Metal music. You're extremely talented on the guitar. You are also very talented at teaching all of your viewers on chords, scales, riffs, ect, ect. Also it gives me great joy that you mentioned the band TNT. I have been a fan of theirs almost from their first album. ( 1984 ). Keep up that great work, I am very fortunate to have watched most of your videos. Here is a suggestion on a 1970s band. Would you consider doing a session on B.T.O ?
I feel they were one of the kings of Rock in the 1970s. Thank you, George

Dave that was cool - MTV was about the only channel I watched when it first started, it was definitely burned into to my tv screen as I had it on 24/7. Headbanger's Ball was getting serious airplay in my house. If you didn't know it Direct TV now airs Metal Mayhem on Fridays - it is basically Headbanger's Ball. I catch some of it before I head to work I just saw Skid row's 18 and Life tonight - Keep'em comin Dave r0ck 0n!

The only place to hear and see the "underground" metal music of the day, radio didn't play most of it. How about some Dangerous Toys/Junkyard/Kix? Lol. Discovered some great bands there; Soundgarden, Helmet,White Zombie,Quicksand.
The show spanned the transformation of metal. Thanks!

my parents got satelite tv so early on that we only had the american version, here, in the uk, it was before it turned shit with mtv europe etc and head bangers ball was my favorite show!

  • @Ratso_DeLynch
    @Ratso_DeLynch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

YES Dave - my phones volume is maxed by accident and the first thing I hit was your notification and bam without even looking I already know you're rocking ACCEPT aka the demon love child of ACDC & MOTORHEAD in all the best ways, do you agree? 😂😉🤘
    .
I love how this was a great montage AND tribute to the show when mtv was actually good! Man I wasn't even alive then when head bangers ball was raging but it was the full package
    -
from the joke vignettes and shorts that the host Ricky rockman was doing with all the guest bands and artists! I loved his Christmas / new years skit with kid zakk and Ozzy during no rest for the wicked ish release!
    .
Of course the other really funny thing was seeing the ensuing awkwardness of some of the guests!
    - I remember the episode where Tom Araya and Kerry King from slayer came on and it looked like Kerry wanted to walk out! It looked like he didn't take well with Ricky's humor and it was just a longgg awkward segment as a result!😂
    .
Of course my other favourites have to be Steve vai hanging out talking with Devin Townsend ( another Canadian metal head) with his then new age graffiti swirled 7 string ibanez universe on his lap!
    .
The last would have to be George lynch who then was pushing his 40s! sitting with the young guys plugging his new lynch mob album self titled album to Ricky who was clearly into it and asking all the right questions to George on the couch.
    .
Anyways I digress this is such a cool series Dave keep it we love it ALL trust me, cheers from Niagara falls Canada thanks bro! 🙏🤘😊
    .
    P. S YOu have the *platform* to do an EXCELLENT *rant topic* and that is one I'm guilty of as of recent and that is -
    *G* ear
    *A* cquisition
    *S* yndrome
    .
I've moved guitars I've loved to get one shiny good one when the kiesel and suhr super strats were praised only to sell them back to try and get my old main trusty esp mij strat back and so on yet here you are visibly showing us that you can rock out on anything - please tell us how you avoid getting distracted in this day and age where reverb kijiji etc all make it very very easy to find new gear without new prices and trades accepted and it all pushes the mindset of yeah I don't need that guitar but it would be really nice to upgrade anyway" kind of mentality! I feel like in the last year I've started to finally get back to focus on playing rather than scrolling on those mentioned websites for the next BEST strat or superstrat, boutique amp pedal etc you know how it goes! Please also talk about the setup on that go to fender strat of yours that clearly looks modded out with those pickups.
    .
    Hearing from the source
( *you and your wise words* would quill alot of people's *GAS* syndrome) or if anything just an interesting topic to rant about next time 😉 what do you think? Lmk at the end of this novel! Haha thanks again Dave 🙏
    - Adam

Ok Dave. I got one for you. Chris Broderick of All that Remains. What do you think? I understand that much of his playing is lock step poly-rhythmic with the drums and he is very much a player of the song which I think is awesome! But there has to be something you can pick out from him. You’re the pro man! I believe you would find a great example of Broderick’s playing.
