Hay man love the videos I've been playing since I was 14 and took lessons from Rusty Anderson who plays for Paul Macartney now but I took lessons in the 80s from him.I have a son that I lost due to a hiking accident in 2014 he played Bass he would always say Dad let's jam so I kept my playing up for those years but I didn't have that spark to practice as much as I should when he passed away I started to practice again and started to enjoy playing again now I have a band and songs are forming your channel is right up my alley man also I believe it's my connection with my son when I pick up my Guitar.Stay chill man and keep the licks coming.👍

Hello Gary. I’m very sorry for the loss of your Son. It’s great that you are keeping that connection with him via guitar expressions. Good luck and God Bless you and your family.

The internet has opened a door to a lot of us players that picked up the guitar in the end of the 70s as a boy, and then transferred those major chords to popular music in the early 80s in high school and experienced the electric guitar for the first time. Then playing through a jcm 800 with a tube screamer was the next step, and finally finding the Mesa Boogie Mark 2 series, which no high school student could ever afford at minimum wage, but we dreamed. Life took over and although we had our guitar safely tucked away, it was hard to practice and evolve without lessons and money. But watching TH-cam lessons floored me, and I instantly became so jealous of young players today and the tools they have. Also, the price of guitars and amplifiers were much more accessible to today's young players, because their minimum wage was much better, and the tools hadn't followed the inflation curve, but actually became better and more affordable. Another advancement was the first guitar POD, it was amazing compared to the Rockman, or anything before it. I started noodling again. But it was the TH-cam videos that have really helped. Especially your channel. It's like a real teacher, you talk about music and music history, and it's like meeting a friend a couple of times a week. I really enjoy the fact that you aren't genre specific, and you do a bit of everything, but at the same time you like heavier music as well. I'm 53 now, and although I dont listen to as much new music as I use to, I still listen. You seem to be on the same page as me. I wonder if you listen to bands that are contemporary to heavy music today, like Lamb of God, or Children of Bodom. Although I dont like the vocals of today's heavy music, I'm more of a Ronnie James Dio guy, I like the guitar tone and players of this modern era. Thanks for all your help !

    Well done mate. 100 videos!
To be honest, as an English man it took me a while to get into your mellow, laid back style. But I kept coming back because of your mastery of the guitar.
And through all these videos uv given me a lot of wisdom. And I've got into your style of presentation too. Now I share your videos and say, "Nah, give him a chance, hes solid f***ing gold"
And everyone comes back and says "yes. He's the real deal"
You're a good man, love u to bits buddy.
    Peace and love.

David, just to give you some heartfelt thanks...
I was skilled on guitar but have lost the ability to play due to medical issues (not pity seeking, just setting the stage). I NEVER miss your videos. I so wish I was still able to play because you would take me to a different level. We should be thanking you, not the other way around 🙇🏻‍♂️. Here’s to MANY, MANY more episodes!

It makes me happy to see the warnings about pain and over-practice. I’ve dealt with tendinitis scares/numbing in my fretting hand from shreddy over-practice witch actually doesn’t bother me as much anymore until I try practicing chords/finger style. Gotta stay safe!

Maybe it's the wide stretches of the fret hand, but what you're playing late in the video reminds me a little of Every Breath You Take. I'm trying to learn guitar again and picked that one as a starting point; it's a challenge. Thanks, David, for sharing your gifts.

Chord exercises make some great songs. King Crimson came to mind right when you said it. Mahavishna Orchestra did a song called "Vision Is a Naked Sword" that has a cool sort of descending progression that sounds like an exercise to me as well.

That first chord at the beginning, E7sus4, reminded me of The Eurythmics song Would I Lie to You, that also reminds me of the 80’s John Cusak movie, One Crazy Summer from 1986. As you were playing those chords chromatically, I was waiting for something strange and bizarre to happen. LOL Scooby Doo. That's hilarious. @ 16:17, put that on a looper and play a solo with those chord notes.

Congratulations on the 100th Chordplay episode! Your channel has become one of my favorites. Most guitar related videos on TH-cam focus on lead guitar - licks, solos, speed, shredding etc. so having someone who realizes the importance of rhythm and chordal work is refreshing. So thanks for even doing the Chordplay episodes.

great lesson loved it all and especially the ending part thats the making of a great tune..
instantly my brain started thinking or hearing where else to take that.... neat stuff.
I hear cello and viola on the last parts instantly started to orchestrate that in my brain which means im not dead yet just need the right push or creative players around me to learn from..
So TAG YOUR IT...! that is a knucklebuster my brain is fighting the first chords yet still
    but thats good finger independence..

Stubby fat fingers limit me in making these chords. I have a hard enough time making more common chords without unintentionally muting strings. This is why I make more 3-string chords and let the bass player work the lower end. I just do the best I can with what I’ve got.

Tendonitis is serious! David is 100% right. Pain is NOT a good symptom of progress. Pain is a Warning. I have smaller hands and recurring fretting-hand thumb tendonitis. For me, a Fender Strat is a no no! Neck is too long (25.5" scale) & wide, making the fret distances/stretching much more. I can handle 25" scale or less (preferably less) and lighter guage strings. I also do lots of partial chords and I play as lightly as possible. My fingers have no callouses.
