They are very different in many aspects since you're comparing essentially a race bike to an endurance bike which impacts the handling a lot. What's your main desire with your new bike?
I live in the SF Bay Area, with lots of rollers and climbs (ie. 3-6 miles), flat sections are very limited. Generally 2 to 4 hour rides, at a brisk (but non-race) pace. I'm 67 and 130lbs. Would like a bike that is responsive and comfortable at the same time (which many reviewers tout as the positives for the Aethos). Primarily road riding, no significant plans for gravel. I realize the Aethos has a race geometry similar to the Tarmac, but considering it accommodates a traditional bar/stem, I can match/exceed the taller stack and shorter reach of the new Defy. Thanks!
Great review and lovely bike. I bought this one too! Did you cut the steerer tube down David? Or can you just remove one of the spacers without having to do that?
Thanks Simon hope the bike is working out for you well. The steerer tube was already cut down for me before it arrived. You could remove the spacers and pop a round one on top to try a lower position before you commit to cutting

This guy is so likeable, and super knowledgeable. I think his vlogs r absolutely terrific. My only critique is he is such an enormous Giant fan, that sometimes his reviews and comparisons seem biased. Super good guy tho, just a small complaint👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Kudos for reviewing a (relatively) more affordable bike. Frustrating when it's only top end bikes that are reviewed. Any chance of reviewing the Scott Addict? Keen to see how that compares to the new Defy as another example of a speedier endurance bike. Keep up the good work
The price of bikes is ridiculous, since i last bought one 5 years ago, the equivalent model has increased in price by around 30-40% Really is becoming the new golf, for well to do middle class types
Would consider a frame only in the UK but no option for this unlike the TCR, Anyone any idea why not believe in certain countries you can have a frame only Motorcycles can be cheaper than bikes 🤔 loads more tech, we are being taken for a ride literally
Worth watching my comparison with that bike I reckon, it's more than just the sum of its parts. But if you're just buying based on the spec list the Canyon does indeed look good value
@@davidarthur in that test you said that giant is cheaper and better in value for money. But when you compare prices actualy is Endurace who gets you the most for the money. I know that UK prices are different then EU prices but still. 1k is a lot of money even if giant is a little bit better, you can pimp the canyon or you get full riding kit for yourself and still have money left for next season 😅
@@Flexo_l When I made that video I reference the CF SLX 7 105 Di2 which at the time of making the video wasn't as good value as the Giant. Obviously I can only compare UK prices and they do change around the world, we have Brexit and import tax to thank for higher prices :(
I think the most overvalued part of recent bikes is drive train. Di2 .. Ultegra.. yeah it is good. But more than $15,00 on it... Really that valuable? I think $700 is just enough .. or even less.. I will never understand that Ultegra or dura-ace version of drive train are more that $2,000. Yeah it is pro version , so it`s price should be, but for most people.. isnt it just marketing? Bike Industry is just "assembling" industry. carbon frames, carbon wheels.. maybe.. those are the only part they can make profits. If simano , sram ,campa are not dicount their part, the bike prices can not go down. My opinion about it is that Chinese Ltwoo or others will replaces shimano, Sram Few customers still use overvalued Shimano , Sram , but majority will be chinese one.
They serve no performance purpose and reduce margin of safety. Zipp and Enve have introduced only to reduce their manufacturing costs. From an engineering standpoint, this is a no go.
7,5 kgs? How is that possible while a Giant TCR 2022 with Ultegra with disc brake, 2x11 mechanica;l weighs 8,7 kgs I think it was. The TCR frame and fork are lighter. Mechanical gears are lighter

It's for aero gains 😅😅
I might have missed it, but you've got to mention hookless when diffusing Giant. That's a deal breaker for me.
Yup didn't mention it but based on extension testing and riding of many hookless wheels over the last couple of years I see no issue with it, works just fine. I hear the fear-mongering out there but mostly misplaced in my experience
Started cycling 15 years ago in my fifties. Only ever buy used bikes. Got a 5 year-old Ribble r872 carbon full Ultegra for £250 the other day. New prices are ridiculous - if you're paying them you've had your head messed with.
Ultegra Di2 ✅
7.6kg ✅
Comfortable over 200km✅
Slightly more aggressive geometry for an old racer✅
Price in Australia? Already secured a discount…. ✅
Can’t wait to challenge my crew on - Giant Propel , Trek Edmonda .
I’ve ordered 30mm GP 5000 trs for my new Giant Defy Adv Pro 0 think I’ll fly 🤟
Looking forward to your reviews David .
Hello, I’m about to buy it. Is it worth the money ?
1200 euros
difference with the canyon endurance cf slx di2. even if the defy is very good it does not justify such a difference GIANT has become much too expensive
6K 😂😂😂 I’ve just purchased a Colnago C64, disc brakes, Campag SR for £2500. It was an 11K build in 2020 by its previous owner. The industry needs those who are willing to spend 6K on a massively overpriced bicycle, those that spend 12K really are a special kind of….
1:50 it move. 🤣
Lovely bike...but 6k come on 😂
need more refreshing model giant line so boredom
This guy is so likeable, and super knowledgeable. I think his vlogs r absolutely terrific. My only critique is he is such an enormous Giant fan, that sometimes his reviews and comparisons seem biased. Super good guy tho, just a small complaint👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
6 grand for mid-tier? bike industry really is shooting its own foot
Kudos for reviewing a (relatively) more affordable bike. Frustrating when it's only top end bikes that are reviewed.
Any chance of reviewing the Scott Addict? Keen to see how that compares to the new Defy as another example of a speedier endurance bike.
Keep up the good work
6 grand man absolutely bonkers
£6k! Giant are seriously having a laugh
The price of bikes is ridiculous, since i last bought one 5 years ago, the equivalent model has increased in price by around 30-40%
Really is becoming the new golf, for well to do middle class types
Would consider a frame only in the UK but no option for this unlike the TCR, Anyone any idea why not believe in certain countries you can have a frame only
Motorcycles can be cheaper than bikes 🤔 loads more tech, we are being taken for a ride literally
half the price ... but 6400 euros oops !!!!
£6,000 for a pushbike is still ludicrous. No thanks!
Half the price and for almost everyone the same performance!
Endurace CF SLX 8 Di2 is more than 1k€ cheaper 😬
Obviously I can only compare UK prices and they do change around the world, we have Brexit and import tax to thank for higher prices :(
How much does the giant defy weight in kg?
My opinion about it is that Chinese Ltwoo or others will replaces shimano, Sram
Few customers still use overvalued Shimano , Sram , but majority will be chinese one.
Like the bike but for me hookless wheels a no go.
Why?
They serve no performance purpose and reduce margin of safety. Zipp and Enve have introduced only to reduce their manufacturing costs. From an engineering standpoint, this is a no go.
Zipp actually passed on the savings with their new wheel range a couple of years ago but most people seemed to have conveniently missed that
Absolutely no reason for an endurance bike to have such an agressive stem angle. Indentity crisis
Wonder when he will review a bike most people can afford🤔
what price can 'most' people afford?
Less than £6k mate. Mind you if you started reviewing “affordable” bikes you’d probably lose at lot of viewers… so carry on.
🤪
Ridiculous geometry for an endurance bike. Far too long for most riders. Giant has missed a big trick here.
i agree. its not really an endurance bike...
The Defy was always a race bike (although a tad less aggressive than some) I think of the Trek Domane when I hear endurance. @@DiggaUndaHipHop
Van rysel from decathlon rules
Early!!!🎉
Nice joke 😂
£6000 for a bicycle, it's a joke😂
Poor colour for £6k
I have this bike, its a glossy black with decals that change colour in different light. It's quite nice in the flesh
Giant always made bike look like old style. some like it some not very much want it. i'm kind feel bored with vintage style for modern bike
Vintage style? Hahah, this bike has a sloping top tube and dropped seat stays. What in the world are you talking about?
7,5 kgs? How is that possible while a Giant TCR 2022 with Ultegra with disc brake, 2x11 mechanica;l weighs 8,7 kgs I think it was. The TCR frame and fork are lighter. Mechanical gears are lighter
Over 8 kg is gravel bike territory.
