How to Change Your Form in Disc Golf | Beginner Tips and Tricks

  • For the first seven years I played the game, I changed nothing about my form. Every round the only change that would occur was my frustration growing. I fully believed that if you just wanted to score better, you would! Little did I know there were small intricate changes you could make to how you throw the disc to help the results. It sounds super obvious now, but new player Robbie truly had no idea.
I became a student of the game and learned as much about form as I possibly could, then began to put in the work! It's not an easy process to change your form, and it's not for those looking for a quick fix either. The road to form change can be tough, but I promise it's well worth it on the other side! How do you go about this process, or even better why would you want to do this? Well to find out how I believe you can change your form, you're going to have to watch to find out!!

What is scary to me is that you have 75% of my newbie distance @0:28 and that's why I'm here. You bring up great points about taking video, taking time to change and improve, etc. As an advanced coach from a different throwing sport, one other suggestion I would add: break down your mechanics into different focal points footwork, timing, release angle, etc. and focus on one thing at a time. For example, if you're focused on footwork, ignore distance, follow-through, angles, and so forth. Too often, my students will be working on footwork and are concerned about where the ball goes. That slows down their progress on footwork. When you can focus on footwork to the exclusion of all else, you will "groove in" the footwork changes quickly and can then move on to the next area of improvement. I'm scared to see the first video of my disc golf throw, but I'm ready to start that journey.

Just getting back into Disc Golf and I don't use any kind of walk up. I'm working only on stand still form currently. In your opinion is it better to incorporate walk/run up from the start? Or build the standstill mechanics then incorporate the walk/run up?
