I have an addendum to tip #2. When I have a group of things to fussy cut on one sheet of paper, I first cut all around the outside edge of the whole group. Now you have a chunk where a third to a half of each item is already cut out, and if you have to stop, you still have a solid piece of paper to store. I love to fussy cut!

Awesome tips! I always enjoy your videos.
I'm going to have to borrow your countdown card idea😊
I got a tip I would like to share, and hopefully, it will make sense in text and be useful
So imagine a picture of Superman with his fist on his hips cape flying, and you want to collage our superhero... the outside fussing cutting is quite easy, but you got those two spaces of background between the body and arms you want gone as well
A craft knife is the best option, but you can do it with a pair of tiny scissors
I cut that space out in two different ways
In the first way, i will make the tiniest fold in the middle of the space you want to remove, then make a small snip. This will give you room to get your small scissor blades into that space... then carefully trim
The second way and easiest way is to actually cut where the hand comes off the body so it's an even cut. You will have easy access to cut out the space you want to remove
When you glue the figure onto the substrate you will fix it by carefully lining the hand back to the body wear it was cut and it would be hard press to tell that the hand was cut away from the body in the first place. I hope that makes sense

💡Fussy cutting can help you sort and organize. If you are in the middle of a project and you fussy cut as you go, you have a harder time auditioning. I find I am happier with my results when I can try on a few different pieces of ephemera as I decorate and make a decision that way.
⭐Great Video! ⭐Super helpful and wonderful reminders. Many thanks!✂❤❤❤

Thank you, Ceri! I appreciate you taking the time to help beginners. This may sound silly, but it never occurred to me to use a guillotine to help with fussy cuts. That's just one of the things I took away from this video. You are a gem!

  • @pamgallagher4584
    @pamgallagher4584 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your videos, you are very helpful to us crafters.
Sometimes I cut out the antennas, but sometimes I remove them, and replace with black thread. Take a piece of thread, longer than needed, pinch it in two and glue the pinched area. When it’s almost dry, glue it to the back of the butterfly. Glue down the butterfly to your project, now trim the black thread to the desired length.
I LOVE my Tim Holtz scissors! Having large arthritic knuckles, is a cutting challenge. With large finger holes, I no longer have to pull or shake scissors from my hands- very frustrating and time consuming…🤗👏

All very good ideas. I do tend to prefer a non-serated edge on my pieces. I understand due to hand size that it's a better option for you. I prefer the smoother edge. It amazes me how so many of us lean towards the same artists. Love Gayle, Tracy Fox, etc. Just trying to get back into the swing of things since hubby passed - two years this August. Crafting has always helped me keep my sanity even more so now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with so many.

This is a very helpful video. I love fussy cutting, have done it for years, but I learned a lot from you. Especially cutting them in smaller pieces to put them away to cut later. Also using the punches. Sometimes I just don't like the whole piece and it sits there forever. But punching out the pretty part and using that makes so much more sense. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

The first thing I noticed was your grasp of the scissors, with the index finger UNDER the blade! I’m wondering if this is how youngsters are taught to hold scissors in the UK? It is the best way to stabilize/control scissors but in the US, most people put the index finger in the hole. I learned about the appropriate grasp from an occupational therapist and have tried for years to “retrain” teachers so that they can teach their students! Applause to you Ceri!!!👏👏👏
