How to create easy Book Page Art

  • Just another way to utilise those old book pages we seem to have so many of when we junk journal or repurpose books. Pull out that drawer of rubber stamps and get using them to create your own book page art.
    Remember you can stamp anything not just flowers, mushrooms and butterflies.
    Happy Crafting

    Thank you, Ceri. I never thought about doing this on my book pages. It’s a great idea to mass make a stack of them. I like the idea of pulling them out as I have the time. I can’t always spend an hour or two in my craft room and these are quick and easy. You’ve inspired me!

    Thank you Ceri; just love this video and the ideas you have. One thing I’ve taken away from it is that I can try and stop the perfection and just be! You’ll know how hard that is though but I will try!! Some of the things you say make me laugh as I think “oh, I would’ve said that“ hehe 😊 Janey xx

    Another fabulous video. You are such a good teacher/instructor, and your work is gorgeous! I love your attention to detail; everything is finished beautifully, even when it's not perfect (most certainly is excellent!) Nothing you do in your videos is uninteresting, and I'm always sad when your videos end. I've been binge watching, just about every day. What will I do once I've caught up?! 😮😁🤭🤗

    I like to buy old books from the thrift or charity shops - very inexpensive and I can make sure I m getting something that the original owner is obviously finished with and I pick out something I don’t think many people would wants so my own books don’t have to quake in fear, haha😂

    Loved this technique. Having literally just started attempting a journal this is a must. Loved your comment about accepting excellence from perfection. I have made cards (just for myself and friends) and have been told I see with a technical eye as everything has to be accurate or binned! So I am hoping the journalling will be more relaxing and casual in approach. Some wonderfully creative people on these newly found videos.

    Thank you from Canada! 'm enjoying your series... just found you on TH-cam. You are very inspiring. QUESTION: I like your application of random numbers. I subscribed to your channel and I would like to see more to help me get started scrapbooking with my two little Granddaughters. Thanks again!

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Eric and welcome to my channel. As far as numbers go I don’t normally look for any specific type of book I just always check when I’m harvesting a book or magazine for anything numbers. If you’re looking for books with the most numbers in try looking for mathematic, engineering, science style books or student reference guides, I’ve also harvested numbers from advertisements in telephone directories, but to be honest when you start to look for them you tend to notice them everywhere, even the ends of bus tickets and raffle tickets. Have fun creating with your granddaughters.

    Okay so I tried this last night. Wow it didn’t dawn on me how many steps this would take and the drying time. So I didn’t get a bunch done. Let’s see if I have this right..
    Book page paint lightly white acrylic paint and let dry.
    On tissue stamp image and let dry as well.
    On book page put glue and attach tissue paper and flatten.
    Clear gesso on top of tissue and let dry.
    Paint stamped image.
    What was the last step….a wax of sorts? I wonder if regular car wax would work! 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m going to try it and see cuz I have a lot of it.

    I am going to try this but I am wondering why you use the tissue paper? I've watched the video twice but maybe I missed the point. Is it to keep the watercolor from bleeding? Why not stamp the book page, then gesso the book page directly? The use of tissue paper might be an important hint I need to know. That's why all the questions about it.

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sandy the use of tissue is just my version, I added the layer of tissue to knock the text back a little so its not so dominant however a thin layer of white gesso would do the same thing.

    Usually, I take a very dim view of the current trend of tearing books apart to use in collage. With that said, this project is perfectly charming! The first example, with the mushrooms is particularly appealing. Some of the books on my shelves are now quaking in fear! 😉Thank you!
