Hi Alanna, as a Brit who used to work in Bath but who now lives in PEI Canada I very much enjoyed your trip to the city. I did want to point out that you actually "had a bit of a moment "in the Circus rather than the Royal Crescent which is just around the corner from the Circus. Next time you visit you will have something more to discover. Keep up the good work.

Always love your “unscripted” videos, Alanna! Bath is a beautiful and historic city, and one of my favorite places to visit when I’m visiting the UK. Two of the more unique visits were chaperoning a group of 10th-12th grade girls (as a +1, my wife was in charge) on an exchange trip from New Jersey and spending a summer sabbatical at Bath University in the early ‘90s learning about the (then) new National Curriculum.

I've been there - I studied at Bath University back in the 70's. Seeing your video with all the lovely clean yellow stone facades really brings back memories of this special city. When I was there, many of the buildings were still black - something to do with the chemicals in coal smoke and acid rain, I think. They used scaffolds supporting dozens of constantly running water running down the stonework to clean them all off. So when it wasn't actually raining, the streets were always wet nevertheless.
Lovely to see it all finished and beautiful. And to see you having a good tie there too. Stay cool.

    • @markhorton8578
      @markhorton8578 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Coal gas works stopped operation in the 70's. That produced huage amounts of sulphur dioxide and other nasty stuff, plus all the coal fires turned the buildings black. Most have been cleaned up, but over the years just the rain has done a lot of cleaning too. To remind yourself of what colour most buildings were, go to the back of pultney bridge (upstream) and look underneath the overhang were the rain does not wash it off. (nearly black)

That wasn't the the Royal Crescent, it was the Circus. The Royal Crescent is a couple of hundred metres to the west, which you reach from the Circus by walking down Brock Street.

Well as someone who lives near bath can tell you it can be nice, it can also get crowded at times such as Easter, summer, and at Christmas (especially when the Christmas market is running). But it also have some beautiful places to visit such as the Roma baths and the park. It’s a great place for shopping with shops for all price ranges.

Been to Bath several times and commuted through it a bunch more - I used to live in Bournemouth and spent 18mths working in Birmingham, Cheshire and Manchester. The quickest route is usually cross-country to Bath, then up the M5 & M6, every Sunday night and Friday afternoon. Lovely city, even when you're stuck in traffic!

Alanna - "Hey guys, look where we are..."
Me - "Ooh! The Circus! I haven't been there for years!"
Alanna - "... We're at the Royal Crescent..."
    Me - "Bloody Foreigners... 😝"
Seriously though, The Royal Crescent is west, along the next road. It's kinda crescent shaped....? The architecture isn't too dissimilar though... Except, you know, *not* a circle...

I'm someone who went to school in Bath so it's great to see you enjoying the city! I sang in a choir in Bath Abbey, walked to school past so many of the places you showed in the video, and spent a lot of my free time there as well. I have to admit, I haven't been there for some time even though I live nearby (too crowded and expensive unfortunately, and parking is a nightmare) but I spent a lot of time looking at shops and saying "that used to be a Sainsburys" or "that used to be a Pizza Hut".
Glad you enjoyed yourself, drop by again soon!

Never before has one latte disrupted a TH-cam video so much.... Liked the format of this one - almost a little stream of consciousness in places, and just kind of dipping in and out of your time - it felt very "natural" somehow.

We enjoyed our visit to Bath. My wife and I took a 21 day driving tour of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales! Such a beautiful countries. The people were so wonderful to us because our trip started two days into the atrocity on September 11...our 911. I'm too old to travel now, but I must admit I like the way Alanna covers the country! Oh, and by the way, the Canadians are among the nicest people in the world also. Interesting observation about England, though: I've noticed in those TH-cam walks through London that so few British women wear lipstick in public unlike American women.

Great vid, and nice to see inside the baths. I went to Bath a couple of months ago, a day trip. First time, a Saturday and it was incredibly busy. Thought I'd be able to just wander in, but having got there was told most people book online. And with me arriving (at the baths), mid afternoon all slots were taken, and there were no more tickets for walk-ins that day. Got to see just about everything else though, so a good day overall :)

I've been to Bath many times although it must be 10 years or so since the last time that I visited. Now days it's best visited by public transport as the traffic can be a nightmare and there is a low emissions charge for some vehicles. It's a beautiful city with a ton of history though and I highly recommend a visit. Alanna you summed it up very well, the Roman Baths are definitely worth seeing but think twice before deciding on tasting the spring water. It's a brilliant place to wander around and take in all of those old views of the buildings and get a huge coffee in the many cafes.

Yes, as you're going to the west country I am voting for it to rain every day.

WooHoo Road tr... I mean Rail Trip!!!
Fab excursion, I really should try to get to Bath sometime.
Could you slow down the speed at which to pan around; it's a bit seasick-inducing when you pan so quickly.
Looking forward to the next outing :)

If you like curry, the best curry-house is in Bath. Called ‘The Mint Room’, and it is across the road from the Holiday Inn hotel. A little expensive but worth every penny.

I love Bath. Last time I was there, I did the Jane Austen Museum in full regency dress. I had tourists stop me for photos all over town. None of the locals cared. They see people doing it so often, it is normal for them...
The Baths get stupidly busy in peak season. Tip: if you want to have that bath experience, go to the booking office (or call, to avoid crowds) and book a session in the CROSS BATHS. They are the much smaller private bath opposite the main one. I did this. The main bath had queues that had four hours wait to get IN to the building. Cross bath? Nobody else was using it as they don't know it is there. I just walked past the queue (and got some very rude comments that i was "pushing in" despite the fact I booked, and was not even using the same baths) and they took me and my partner to the Cross Bath. It was beautiful. floating in the warm effevescent water, as the sun set across the gorgeous Cotswold stone buildings... and nobody else there at all.
    Perfection!

May I say that the place you were laying on the grass looked like The Circus rather than Royal Crescent. It's a while since I've been to Bath so I enjoyed your video.

BATH'S architecture is predominately GEORGIAN, for which it is World famous, Jane Austen was a frequent visitor.

Not by choice I don't think as she famously disliked it.
No idea why, it's one of my favourite places, second only to York for me.

Why are you always alone in the shots?
Great video and I to love history, I live just a few yards from a Pub built in 1314, but am still taken aback by its age and think of how many people have sat in the pub and drank their sorrows away, amazing to think about that don't you think.
