    Use a headlamp instead of flashlight. It might be a little more expensive but you can get them with red light, they are usually lighter than a flashlight, and it is hands free.

    I personally prefer a headlamp over a handheld/ book light. It takes a bit of figuring out to integrate with your headset comfortably but it's worth it. and since right now I don't own a sentry I'd have to say back-up charts and paper copies are hardly bottom of the list.

    I would add a handheld radio for back up

      Good point! I do carry one in my plane but for someone renting that a great thing to have with you also

    How about a video on your actual flight bag? Or a comparison of various flight bags you may have used over the years and which one is the best, most versatile etc. That would be great to see for us newbies.

      Hey that’s a great idea, I’ll add that to my list! In the meantime, you can’t go wrong with Flight Outfitters. Thx for watching.

    I have a Sentry Mini but I’m thinking of upgrading to the one you have. I carry a knee board as well in my flight bag. Great stuff man!

    I agree. Bose A20 has been great and am waiting on delivery of the A30. I like the full iPad with foreflight especially in a six pack. The latest sentry antennae is amazing. Backlighting on six packs are tough at best. I use a Fenix flashlight without red light capability. I know what the science says, but the cheap from Sportys failed after two tries. I’m not doing NVG’s so white light at night is good for me.

      I just got the A30s also and really like them. Made a quick video on them too if you haven’t seen it. I was lucky to be able to purchase mine the very morning they were released so I got to test them out right away. I think you’ll enjoy!

      @@FreedomFlight1 I’m looking forward to their arrival in a couple days. It’s pretty amazing that the community embraces Bose, almost exclusively. It says a lot about their product and the community that supports. It’s actually pretty amazing as the cost is very high, but you see most folks embracing their ANR headsets. This is next step improvement, I’m looking forward to. Plus I will have a spare for passengers, which is always a plus.

    I consider handheld radio an essential safety item in addition to the things you listed.

      Yes! Me too…I have one in the plane at all times. It just didn’t make my “Top 5” since I’d have to say I’ve never had to use it due to a radio failure in 30+ years (looking for wood to knock on right now, ha)
      Thanks for watching.

      @@FreedomFlight1 I was definitely not as lucky as you. :) In general, today's radios are much more reliable but a little less than perfect.

    As a doc myself I did not know there was an issue with eyesight etc white v red light at night. Why in ordinary terms do we need to "protect" our eyesight? Also, why is white bad and red good and why would you be reading while flying at night? (iPad is backlit) silly question perhaps but I have yet to take my discovery flight or study for the written.....My own google search was not at all as helpful as I had expected. Interesting and fun video. Thanks. G PS love Bose, iPad is the way to go for all those maps, can't imagine flying without GPS.....good quality backup power is so worth it......when you need it you REALLY NEED it to be there...

    • @FreedomFlight1
      @FreedomFlight1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you want to avoid using a white flashlight in the cockpit at night if you can, the red light will preserve your night vision much better. Flashlight is good if you need to write a clearance down or read a chart (if your an old school paper kinda guy, ha). Outside of that, you want to have one for a backup to your instrument panel lights...and again, the red light is certainly a better choice. Thanks for watching!

    Most don't know this but green light fatigues eyes less than red, per Army Flight Surgeon here!

    Also add that if you added the costs while you went then we would have that total.

    What generation is your ipad and how many GB would you recommend? Thanks in advance👍

    • @FreedomFlight1
      @FreedomFlight1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mine is the most recent generation of ipad mini with 64GB. However, you do not need this to run ForeFlight. Check out Foreflights website to see min requirements. I think the ipads with the cell service are the only ones with the independent GPS feature (at least used to be that way). Again, I recommend you checking Foreflights site as I assume that is why you would want an ipad in the cockpit. Thanks for watching!

    I'm wondering if my hearing loss and dependence on hearing aids would prevent me from getting a private pilot's license.

    • @FreedomFlight1
      @FreedomFlight1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably not, I know several people that fly with hearing aids. I’d suggest making an appointment to get your FAA medical certificate first, that will answer you question for sure. Thanks for watching

    What flight bag do you recommend?

    • @FreedomFlight1
      @FreedomFlight1  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have several depending on what I’m doing (but I fly very different missions and equipment at times). I love the size and styles of the Flight Outfitters bush pilot bag in the video. I use it for short flights where I’m not carrying a lot of stuff. I like how it sits upright also. The two other bags I’ve liked are at Sportys called the Flight Gear Crosswind bag and Flight Gear iPad bag. If you are training in a small plane and don’t need it to carry textbooks etc, the smaller “iPad bag” I think works best. I’ve had those two bags the longest. The build quality with my newest bag, the Flight Outfitters bush series is exceptional. I’d certainly look at all they have to offer as well. Hope that helps a little!
