      For me, a simple "drill" style way to remember vocabulary is to do flash cards before I go to sleep. Like literally the last thing I do in the day. I always seem to be able to develop my memory that way.
      I might also suggest when you learn a new word is to think about something that's important to you that's associated with that word. Anchor the word to a strong memory or feeling.

    Having a conversation with yourself is so important. Not only do you revise and remember everything, you can also keep a tab of where you are. I used to say just a few words at first but now i have full fledged conversations with myself, using full sentences. Sure, people think I am crazy but.... its worth it

    Dude this is exactly how I became fluent in Chinese! But for me, I think I have a natural talent for language because most people forgot things when they are told it in another language, however, I can tell you who taught me what word, and where I was, and what I was doing. Learning a language is all about making memories with your vocabulary. You have to make a moment , and you will surely remember it forever.

    At school they teach us 3 ways of learning you can be a reading/listening learning, a visual learner, or a hands on learner
    -reading/listening learn best by reading a textbook, or listening to a podcast or audio book
    -visual learners learn the best by watching videos to learn, or making graphs and charts to help visualize the concept
    -hands on learners learn the best by writing out what they are learning, and perhaps for science they actually do a lab or project
    I am more of a hands on learner and a little bit of a visual learner. So for example when I do Chinese for school I write down every character I learn 7 times. I also pick it apart seeing each radical inside the character which helps me to remember. When I study Korean I write down each main topic of a lesson in a notebook and then separately write down each new word I learned a couple times.
    My advice is to find your way of learning and go from there!

    Tips duly noted! I actually frequently imagine conversations in my mind and, when I can, I try to read texts out loud - which helps me hear what I'm reading and actually understand more of the content. I once saw a tip about writing phrases in a journal every day (I believe it was from Hyunwoo actually), I got a journal, started writing phrases, then misplaced my notebook and forgot about it... yeah... discipline here will get me back on track!

  • @verona3810
    @verona3810 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    What I often do that I found very helpful was kind of similar to Hyunwoo-ssi's scenario-imagining, except I do it in third person instead of first. That means that I imagine 2 or more people talking to each other while I am the observer. I create many little stories and scenarios by creating only dialogues from everything that I've learned from dramas and TTMIK textbooks. I have a strict rule though: I am not allowed to skip over a dialogue in my head if I don't know how to say it in Korean; in order for me to continue the story/dialogue, I HAVE to come up with a way for the person to respond (that would make sense). This makes me nervous and allows me to think quickly as if I were in that situation myself. And lastly, I do this before going to bed right before I fall asleep, which in turn makes me dream in Korean! I always find myself dreaming in my OWN 1st-person scenarios speaking Korean even though I'm nowhere near fluent. Basically it's a way to trick your brain into thinking that its main language is the one that you're learning before falling asleep and it makes you remember the vocabulary and grammar much better the next day. Hope this helps any learners here!~

      @schuuichiminamino 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Memory is linked to the emotions and senses related to the moment. So if you put a drawing, different intonation while practicing it or tell a funny thing about it, you're more likely to remember it. But with Korean, the words seem so similar to each other... It's really hard to remember.

    • @MorseCodeStutters
      @MorseCodeStutters 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      During video lessons I try to be as present as possible with no distractions. And THEN I write about what stood out for me in terms of utility whether it's grammar and/or vocabulary.
      This way I'm forced to remember what I paid most attention to and so far I can watch or listen to a 30 minute lesson and write down everything I remember feeling really interested in using in the future.
      Another thing I do is journal in Korean allowing room for giant mistakes just to get comfortable with writing for myself. And I try to keep that separate from posting something on Hello Talk to get people's corrections.

    Update!! It was SO scary to approach him, I WAS PETRIFIED AHHH but I did. It felt amazing to *FINALLY* tell him. He was really surprised, but then he smiled down at me (he's a little taller than me lol) and (shyly!) said he liked me back!!!!! He said he'd been crushing on me since 11th too!! AH I'M EXCITED JUST THINKING ABOUT IT AGAINN this happens in novels and movies I can't believe it happened to me too ☠️ We were smiling and couldn't look each other in the eyes. We didn't know what to do lol it was a bit awkward but I was so HAPPY. Oh it was a good day...We probably won't meet again, but atleast I won't regret not telling him :)

There are many scenarios that could happen, but if you feel like something could happen between you, go for it. If he denies, but still wants to stay friends, thats great! If he rejects and stops talking to you, he isn't worth your time at all. Otherwise, don't tell him if you want to stay friends for a long time. Hope you get what I mean! Good luck!!

    I think the key thing to remembering vocabulary is studying the words that are relevant to you categorizing them based on topic. For example, if you like working out or sport and you love to TALK about these things, then you can create a list of words related to that topic and then write about the topic using your target language. Basically, learn the words that you use in your every day conversations in your native language.
    Also, one thing that I've found to be really working is learning words from my favorite kpop songs and dramas; those are never ever forgotten! ^^

      I recommend listening to podcasts I'm a kinda person who's really busy with work and school and all that but really love listening to music too, so I substitute part of my music to listen to podcasts and say it out loud sometimes record then hear myself then listen to the correct pronunciation again. Just like that and also u can download hello talk an app for natives so u can hook up with one that can help u.
      Sorry for the long ass comment 😅

    Does anybody know a way to practice and apply what I've learned? I used to have a Korean friend, but I don't think I'm confident enough to talk to her anymore, much less practice.

      Having a korean friend, as I've heard, is the best way to practice, but if you don't feel like talking to her much, try doing this: make ridiculously random scenarios in your head in which you can include as many words you've learned as possible. Actually, your comment was posted like a year before, so maybe you've already become fluent so haha i'm just rambling

    I really feel like the girl, Cassie, is kind of agitating and almost unnecessary in this video. It seems like she is mostly agreeing with / repeating / finishing sentences the guy is saying when he's talking. Her Mhms, Yes, Yeahs are kind of distracting when trying to focus on learning the new information. Also, she keeps focusing on or talking directly to him instead of the camera most of the time, it feels really weird. Of course they're doing a side by side kind of presentation, but the way he talks to the audience while occasionally and briefly acknowledging her when speaking to her directly is more ideal and what most hosts do in this situation. I haven't seen the rest of this channel, but I hope the guy has some solo stuff so it would be easier to understand. The video would be like 7 minutes instead of 9 if you edit out her saying yes all the time.
