    i’m mexican and i also find ways to connect my native tongue to korean. for example
    빨대 (ppaldae) -> popote (straw)
    숟가락 (sudgalag) -> cuchara (spoon)
    빵 (bbang) -> pan (bread)
    i love learning this way because it helps me memorize and think in my native tongue and that way my vocabulary expands in both languages

    Thank you for making this video! It was very helpful. I have been self-studying Korean for a little over a year now, and while I'm at the level where I can understand the main concepts of grammar, I'm stuck on just building up my vocabulary. I will definitely check out notion and try the tips you gave!
    Also, one tip that was helpful for me was just to speak! Any words you knew, throughout your day. Similar to what you said, like if you go to pick up an apple, you say aloud, "사과" and just little things like that. When you think about how little children learn their first language, they learn just by listening and most importantly, just speaking, even if it might not be correct. The important part is trying, and just doing. And little children learn how to speak their first language in a relatively short time, compared with when you try to learn a second language! That's what I've been trying to do now, practicing my speaking even just to myself.

    a few tips from me:
    1) Listen to as much Korean speech as possible, you can just put a podcast in the background and not think about the translation. This method helps me to get used to Korean speech and all the words are more familiar to me.
    2) I saw on one channel a method with cards - you take a piece of paper and fold it in half. on the inside you write the word and on the outside you write the translation. when you repeat the words, you read the word - translate - close the sheet and on the place of the word you see the translation. such a card can hold a lot of words.
    3) Writing down words about 3 lines every time I write out a new word and thinking vigorously about the translation. it helps a lot when writing, because the muscle memory remembers how to write a particular word.
    4) my English teacher showed this method. a sheet of paper is folded 4 times. twice you copy the word and then close them. the third time you have to write the word from your head fold and repeat 4 times.

I started learning Korean about 3 weeks ago and it's quite fascinating that two people can come up with similar learning strategies, while watching this video it felt like so similar to my thought process when I learn new languages. It's impressive how you made connections between words, but I always like to learn words while watching a Korean video. That way I can memorize them really quickly. If not I won't remember the word until I see it somewhere else (in a video). (I'm a person who doesn't like to force myself to learn vocab)

    that tip where you relate it to the object instead of the word is huge. i find myself when translating to think of the word in english which then translates to my brain to understand it first... which takes a lot of brain power i feel. or memory whichever.
