How to Remove Seats 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle (carpet has mold from water leak)

  • Here's how to remove seats out of a 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle Turbo. I needed to take the seats out of my Beetle because the carpet has mold from a water leak that I suspect is from the windshield being replaced (not the known clogged sunroof drains issue). This seat removal procedure should work on all Volkswagen New Beetles from 1998 to 2011.

Thank you and what a timely response as the beetle has condensation in it again and I have no clue why. It can be very hard to love an old Volkswagen. I recently did this video going over everything I've done to it th-cam.com/video/rTMmBLn1x1M/w-d-xo.html

The leak still could be the sunroof. The drain tube from the sunroof connects to another tube a the bottom of the a-pillar. These are glued together from the factory, and the glue comes apart over time. (Bad idea, VW!) You can pull the a-pillar trim to check.
The easiest fix is to buy a 3/8" to 1/2" reducing coupling to join the tubes together. (Something VW should have done from the factory.)
Also, lookout for the seal on the third brake light failing, filling the trunk area with water, and setting off your alarm.

Great info, thank you. I'm actually taking the car to the dealer in a few days to have the drains cleaned. I don't want the water coming back

@@BuildYourOwn No problem, you're welcome. I ran trimmer line through my drains, and they were perfectly clean. My guess is that the tubes are disconnected at the a-pillar junction.

Hey man, that made my life a whole lot easier today!
Question: did you get any airbag warning lights and/or trouble codes after putting the car back together?

  • @ClassicTV4U

VW obviously did some minor improvements after 1999--I have a 2000 NB that I purchased pre-owned, and the door panels and glove box are nowhere near as together as yours appear to be!! Interesting that you did not mention disconnecting the battery before disabling the airbag system,
but otherwise, a good video and a nice-looking VW.

On my 2001 Turbo, the sky roof will open by itself. I never touch the dial, but I'll come out in the morning and the roof will be open. Maybe that happened to you. I thought maybe someone had tried to break in, but no, it's happened 4 times. Any ideas? Good video anyway.

    • @BuildYourOwn
      @BuildYourOwn  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching and sharing your issue with the sky roof on your 2001 Beetle Turbo. It's indeed strange that the roof opens by itself. It could possibly be due to a malfunctioning switch or a wiring issue. Another potential reason could be a problem with the car's comfort control module. As these causes could range from simple to complex, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a professional to get it diagnosed.
In the meantime, it might be a good idea to disconnect the motor for the sky roof to prevent it from opening automatically, especially if it's exposed to the elements. But remember, this is just a temporary solution. It's still important to get the root cause addressed. I hope you find this advice useful, and thanks again for your comment.

@@BuildYourOwn Thanks for replying. I realize I didn't specify that the sky room doesn't open when the car is running; it's only when parked, which makes it really weird. I suppose it may open when I'm driving and I just don't realize it, but I think I would see it when getting out. I'm not sure what the comfort control module, but I will surely do the research. Another thing I didn't mention is my air conditioner failed a few years ago. It melted one of the big fuses. When I took it to a repair shop, they thought it was probably a cooling fan that wasn't working, yet both fans run. They wanted $3500 to fix it. The car cost $2500. Anyway, I didn't repair it. My roommate now says he can fix it, so we're waiting until we both have time off. Could this be maybe be a factor to the sky roof opening?

Super helpful video. Mine had 3 different connectors under the seat, and they all connected in a different way. WTF do car designers put the connectors on the bottom of the seat instead of at the back right at the bottom of the seat cushion? My Durango unclips there and it is soooo much easier. Freaking german car designers. Pffff.

That could possably be a leaking heater matrix kids. Usualy results in a smelly wet carpet.

    • @BuildYourOwn

It was the windshield leaking after it was replaced. They tried to deny it of course. But when they replaced it again the problem solved. The dealer checked the sunroof drains and they were perfect
