    The red and yellow wires are dependent on model year. I have an '01 here in the States and I've fitted an aftermarket radio to it, and it's red-to-red and yellow-to-yellow for it to work properly rather than the reverse. Some model years (earlier ones, I think?) are reversed, as on the car in the video. Check your car's wiring diagram and/or verify with a voltmeter which wires are live with the key on and off.

    This is exactly what I was looking for with my Bug! My radio started going to shite and always trying to eject CD, so it would drain my battery. I need to replace it and dont want to put garbage factory radio in. A little bit concerned for the security thing

    My Original CD player was draining the battery so I disconnected it some time ago. Now I know how to replace it. Thankyou.

    CAUTION !!! Not mentioned is that in the U.S. at least with the monsoon radio/remote cd player in the trunk.. removing the REMOVING THE RADIO DISABLES THE CAR.. YOU MUST HAVE THE CODE AND A WAY TO ENTER IT WHEN REMOVING /REPLACING THE RADIO ! SEE YOUR DEALER !! AND FIND YOUR ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE CODE ! ( THIS IS TRUE FOR 98 BEETLE)

      A good heads up for U.S. viewers,a lot of cars have an alarm trigger running through the radio and most can be simply bypassed but without having access to a U.S. spec Beetle it's not something I could advice on.

      According to Crutchfield, this won't happen if you first disarm the security system by inserting the master key in the driver's side door lock, locking and then unlocking the door. I have not yet worked up the courage to try that, because I don't have the manual or the code for my radio (secondhand car). I have also read advice that if you trip the immobilizer, you can reset it by inserting the key in the lock, locking twice, then unlocking once. (shrug). Possibly it's true.

    PJ's Projects:
    I had a dead battery on my 2009 vw new beetle my radio went to safe mode! I had to go online to get the Code for my radio, I put in my code and the radio came on with no sound? I also got the radio keys to remove the radio! I put the keys in and pulled the radio out! However something was holding it from coming out on the left side? Any idea how to fix these two problems?

    Is the switching from red and yellow just for that model Sony or for any brand you buy?

    • @herrlip72
      @herrlip72 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      just for the record I put in a JVC, I had to switch the wires, radio presets held in flash memory but clock and other settings dropped out, switched red to yellow and yellow to red and all good

    • @PJsprojects

      The aftermarket radio will of come with its own release keys in the box.
      You can also buy the keys from places like Amazon, EBay or Halfords.

    I did this on the wife's 2003 beetle, pretty much like you did, but the radio kept draining the battery. Ended up putting the factory stereo back in. Any idea why the battery kept draining?

      The parts get supplied to me ready for the job so sadly no idea on the exact ones I used but they are available from Ebay/Amazone/Car shops. • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you buy a replacement head unit that has a cd feature then yes the cd in it will work unless your unlucky and buy a faulty one.
      A lot of head units now days don’t have a cd player so just make sure you buy one that does.
