Let's not take for granted the importance of personality politics in South Africa. There is a reason why MK Party shocked everybody at the polls. Even though Shivambu is a much more well spoken and intellectually dispositioned than Malema there is simply no appetite for "intelligent politics" amongst the millions of ordinary South Africans. The appetite is for leaders who are into populist sloganeering, charismatic and unafraid to go against the grain and that is exactly what Malema built his political career upon. For the short term, EFF needs a Malema if they are to remain "popular" in our political space until maybe, when the majority of South Africans begin to follow and understanding high politics at a policy and legislative level, which is where Shivambu excels.

The current leadership must come back from the conference unchanged. To those that are new to Politics, All 6 of the Top 6 stood uncontested and unopposed in the previous conference. I don't think he's interested in winning elections. The longer people don't realise and see socialism in action, the harder it becomes to win the minds of the electorate.
