- PART ONE
Tens of thousands of Māori and their whānau are dealing with dementia.
Māori are both increasingly being diagnosed with mate wareware, and also, as a group, under diagnosed.
Irena Smith met one whānau who have worked to return their kuia to wellness, but who are questioning whether the tests for mate wareware are culturally appropriate, and accurate.
PART TWO
This week Whaikaha announced a raft of changes to disability funding that caused widespread anguish across the community.
Miriama Kamo sits down with Dr Huhana Hickey to discuss the government’s plans, and what the community itself says it needs.
PART THREE
Leigh-Marama McLachlan was in Taranaki for the world premiere of Rachel House’s debut feature film, The Mountain.
I'm a home care carer in Aussie. Dementia affects the short-term memory, not so much the long term. that's a big giveaway with dementia. My 90+ year olds can remember way back when they were teenagers, but they can't remember yesterday. Keep them at home for as long as you can and the carers can manage , but when their safety is at risk, then carers' time and efforts are the tell tail signs that the loved ones showing classic dementia signs. I think carers are incredible but they have a life too.

Oh yea you can have fantastic conversations with dementia clients and I thought nah nothings wrong with them ,but the doctors and specialists are just giving you the heads up so listen to them. I'm maori too by the way and understand our pact we have for our elders
Western foods is the culprit, we have to eat food our ancestors ate
Rachel was amazing in the foundation series it was so unexpected seeing her play that role she did really well.
