Thanks for an excellent, "real world" demo of the different tones available. Good explanations of the switching options. Solid playing without either jazzy noodling or too much distortion. I could hear what the guitar is likely to sound like in my playing situation. A nice hint of JJ Cale's Magnolia in your closing jam too! It's five years since you recorded this, I'm looking for a guitar that sounds just different enough to complement a Strat and a Tele I already own and the combination of a splittable, low output bridge humbucker with slightly Gretsch voiced single coils seems to be ideal. A pre-owned S2 Studio has just come on sale locally here in the UK. Your video makes me feel it's worth making the journey to check it out.
The middle position on the 5 way switch selects the bridge and neck pickups, not the middle like you’d think. Wish y’all would have tried that tone out cuz I’m wanting one of these too :)
Thank you for coming to correct me... 2 years later lol Yeah, they did say that. Hopefully next time I’m wrong I’ll find out sooner, likely sometime today 😅
@@NoelHaven Haha I didn't even notice how long ago you made that comment but I thought, "hmmm maybe they didn't try that position and I'm crazy" lol. Not trying to be pedantic or anything, I just have the black S2 Studio on the way to me in the mail and am just consuming pretty much every bit of content on the guitar that I can as I wait for it to arrive. And don't worry, I'll totally call you out on anything else just as soon as I see it ;)
@@STSGuitar16 Haha Nice! I ended up getting the black one too, like a year and half ago 😁 But all good man! I would have done the same, so I expect nothing less 👌🏻 I hope you dig it! I really like mine, it has a cool vintage vibe but can really scream with the bridge humbucker too. It’s awesome you were able to get one, I didn’t realize when I bought mine how few would be on the market all this time later and how overpriced some of them are used, almost the same as new, hope you got a fair deal homie! Let me know how ya like it when it arrives 🤘🏻
@@NoelHaven Yeah, a HSS configuration seems like my ideal setup, so I am excited for that. Reverb had about five or six brand new ones for sale, so I was able to get one for about $1600 and free shipping. In hindsight, I wish I would have had the option to pay for shipping because I literally ordered the guitar a month ago now and it still has not arrived. Aggravating to say the least, but it will make it all that much better when it finally does get here. I also didn’t realize how few they made at first either so I’m hoping it might be worth a little money someday lol. I also really love how few there are. I can’t name a single player I know who really plays one regularly, so I’m glad I’ll be able to differentiate myself from the pack in that way and hopefully find my unique voice and tone with this guitar. I’m in love with how it looks and I am confident that the sound is exactly what I am looking for as well, so I could see it replacing my Les Paul as my number one.
I ordered one in sunburst in march and still havent received because PRS takes 6 months to build. This video makes me excited about getting mine. Do you think this guitar could replace a strat?
Nice playing and tones, nice demo! I have one in Frost Blue. Great, great guitar. Been playing for 50+ yrs and also own and have owned Strats (along with, er, several Core PRSes). Per purposes of _versatilty_ this could indeed “replace” a Strat. However, IMO and IME, it doesn’t quite _sound_ like a Strat. Try a Silver Sky if you want a PRS “Strat”... or maybe just get an actual Strat. Hope this helps.

They did try that position. The guy on the left even said that the middle position is like how it is on a tele, not a strat lol

Love the vibe of these things - I’d pick one over the core models.
To my ears it sounds like if gretsch made a ssh guitar. I dig it. Not really a very strat like sound.
Could I get that big SRV tone from those? I have the vela but I don’t have a middle pickup

absolutely. the versatility in these instruments is unmatched!

Sounds great . ..what are you using for an amp ?
In this particular video, it's a Fender Princeton Reverb. 90% of the time we use a Fender Deluxe Reverb.
@@musicvillabozeman sounds great...thanks .
Wow... he’s a tasty player.
