Omfg, if you couldn't admire a man enough already. Been a fan since the very first time I saw "The Martians" in MBUK magazine. Met him at Silverstone (Touring Car race) riding when he was at Volvo/Canondale and he signed my ROX t-shirt. Best day of my life at that point. Someone stole it off my mums washing line. Worst day of my life at that point. True legend.
100% truth this is the best pod I’ve ever watched as a 43yr old the names and memories that Martyn has brought back is incredible. Bestwick in Bath park vert practicing, Bike 98, running just the granny ring to hop up benches, scoping the same spots in some of the early vids around Bath and Bristol….Martyn you touched many people, not in Russell Brand way mind! Thankyou!
Watched Martyn’s show in Christchurch on Wednesday, I’d definitely recommend it for anyone that watched this! He inspired so many of us as young mountain bikers with his version of trials to just go out into the street and ride stuff and totally made me want a cannondale
The fact that he's so humble and just refuses to believe his status in the mtb world makes him even more of a legend. Like many others I've followed Martyn since the dirty tricks days and I've always loved him. Saw the show at Newport and it was just pure entertainment, full of fun and emotion. What a guy ❤
Proper legend I've watched Martyn in Plymouth and Falmouth . Every time I have seen him ride he has left me speechless. His accuracy and skill are second to none. Also I could listen to him for hours. Defo Hall of fame mtber
I started watching GMBN when I discovered Martin on line and I followed his progress after his life changing injury and he inspires many people to get back on the bike which is amazing, also due to him on GMBN I have also got to discover other presenters Blake Sampson and Doddy. I hope to meet all of them one day🙏
Mike, I discovered GMBN through Doddy from looking up tech vids to work on my own stuff. That said, it was Martyn and Blake that had me watching every day.
As a 43 year old Martyn and Missy were my heros. Unfortunately, I bent my first Cannondale F500 trying to be Martyn at my local park trying to be good at trials. I got a nice new frame and forks direct from Cannondale worth twice the complete bike eventually. In 2019 our lives changed when my wife was given a year to live. During this time, we were awake a lot, and I was sitting ready for action at anytime and hour. This is when I discovered an old friend and hero speaking shite on TH-cam. A.K.A Martyn. Thank you Martyn for taking my mind away from shite for 30 minutes at a time a few times a week whilst dodging a flying mug. Also Martyn yes you get jealous of people on bikes. I understand that from a different point of view as in people/couples. All that matters. You're here with your loved ones . Ollie, Pilgrim, Rob the egg King, Brendog and a few more on TH-cam are riding almost for me because my daughter won't be with anyone else, and I struggle to leave the house. Thank you all, and this podcast is the best one of many brilliant ones.
Martyn is such a legend what a inspiration. I'm 47 and very late to mountain biking in the last few years. But watching him on youtube and even his TED talk, he has made mountain biking what it is for me. He is such a good story teller and just makes me smile listening to him.
Great episode guys I love Martin and hearing his story, I fell off a cliff mtb riding and broke my ankle which needed a fusion which caused an infection resulting in getting my right leg amputated below the knee, and what Martin says about worrying about getting back to biking is so true I couldn’t ride for long time but since getting back to it I feel like I have my life back and now ride more and better than ever, never give up
Just returned from Mr Ashton's performance in Aberdeen. He came all the way up here! Goddam. We have had a humble trials scene since 1995 and the Martins were as pivital as they have been throughout the nation. I cannot recommend his show enough. Spent an age with fans, loved it! His mantra is as true today as it was all those years before. "The days are always full". Tis a great thing. Thanking you.
LEGEND and such a DUDE 🤘 The stories and memories in that head must be priceless. I could literally listen endlessly and was gutted the conversation ended. Heartwarming listening to the foundation idea 👍. LEGEND is really an understatement. Now get back to the Shed 😂
Loved it! Mart is a legend! My fav memory of that MBUK era is watching Dirt and then going out for a blast with mates even though we did go on to ride trials loads and loved doing it Dirt was simple and fun.
Mate that was fantastic! I've been saving it for when I had time to watch it properly in one go, only problem was it was about 6 hours or so too short! Thank you to all involved.
Maaaaaan, you are so correct to say legend..... there must have been a bit of heart flutter during that podcast knowing Martyn was sitting right next to you 🤟🎶
Martyn has a great idea for an adaptive bike foundation. While there is tech that can help get people back into biking, the costs can be quite a challenge to overcome. And it would be wise to maybe not narrow it to just biking, but to all adaptive sports.
Excellent podcast truly enjoyable and encapsulating. Regarding AI, we've all seen Terminator and see how it ends of its put in a position of control. But some idiot will do just that, then tell it humans are responsible for climate change (even though we aren't) and it will end us all.
Hope you don’t mind me asking but who was the family member that hurt themselves in the Speedway Crash? As a Speedway fan that’s going to bug me haha! Also any chance of some Speedway guests?
@@TheRideCompanion thanks for saying I would’ve been going over every rider trying to work it out! Yeah but I’ve heard a lot from Tai, was thinking someone like Dan Bewley or one of the younger riders!
The fact Martyn doesn't believe he's a legend means he's at the right end of the Dunning Kruger scale, so he probably is a legend 😜 Also, why would I switch off? I saw his name in the title and knew I couldn't miss this episode... Edit: Regards his wheelchair jokes, I wonder if any of them would have been bleeped on The Last Leg.
Wish we’d recorded the first 30 minutes of our conversation in studio. He was comparing himself to Cliff Richard. In his opinion ‘not quite Elvis but not bad’ haha Unreal
100% with Olly at this point - th-cam.com/video/xDaq98jeOw8/w-d-xo.html - Martyn is so humble in this interview its almost frustrating!. An absolute mainstay of my teenage Bedroom Wall, the monthly MBUK double page rip out poster With him, maybe Hawyes aswell Hans, Will Longden, Peaty, Rob etc. One of the very very best. Properly, properly inspiring then, and even more so now. Really, really looking forward to the show!

Love the vid - just a moan some c unit stole my bike today whilst I was working in London. Came back to reading station for commute home and just a cut lock left. Police not interested - crime is getting out control in UK.
ODub I can’t believe you were so influenced by Martyn you wanted a Volvo! On a complete my separate note I’m pretty thirsty right now…..could murder a Liquid Death….
Ashton was still in the British team in 2003 biu world championships at santilana del mar, miengo. Along with hawyes, ed tongue, akrigg. Great laughs proper piss heads. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
so good! Martyn, as alwys Olly! but can't get my head around whats the point of the guy on the left?... He makes no sense or any good points, only keeps molesting his mic.. seriously?
BIG UP Martyn for inspiring a generation!! Let us know your favourite parts of the podcast below!
The bit where you could hear/see Martyn.
@@benjybluehat solid comment.

Martyn, Martin, Peaty and Warner were literal gods of MTB back in the 90's....
bloody legends, along with JMC.
I could listen to Martyn all day long
