You can actually just tip the dishwasher on its side and remove just the circulation pump in about 5 mins. Only 2 clips to unplug.

Yes. Most of this work is COMPLETELY unnecessary.

Ok..READY. Will do this in the morning. I'm not taking the whole thing apart. I'm just going to remove the drain pump however. Girl power here.

That short rubber elbow on the pump is what fails and you cannot replace just that. You have to buy the entire pump assembly. Ridiculous!

I just figured this out the hard way... and I say.... F U GE!!!

Yes, I had the same small rubber elbow fail (3 year old dishwasher), no luck getting just this part, had to buy the entire pump assembly. If it fails again, I am just going to make something to fit.

@@tomborchardt1928 I used Flex Glue to patch up pinhole on rubber elbow. Curated the join for 48 hours before starting the machine. So far it is working good.
But GE should recall these rubber elbows. There are thousands of complains and property damages due to this 2$ component. GE is losing customers over this.

Hard to imagine an autopart store couldn't find a suitable replacement 90 deg elbow.. might need to cut to fit.. 💁‍♂️

My rubber elbow ripped open and leaked all over my floors. Now I have to order a whole pump just to replace the elbow which may fail again. 3 years seems to be the magic number for failure. Time for a recall

I strongly recommend using a worm gear clamp in place of the clamp they include.

    • @mikeb.7068
      @mikeb.7068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Constant tension clamps are better than worm gear clamps. This Oetiker type clamp was specified for a good reason.

@@mikeb.7068 Yeah, it saved the manufacturer 2 cents.

@@threedog22 You were right. I just disassembled my GE dishwasher this afternoon to troubleshoot low water circulation. The problem was a clogged impeller on the wash pump. When I reinstalled the wash pump I used a high quality worm drive clamp. Much better than messing with finding a new Oetiker clamp. I did use a solid worm drive clamp with no perforations. That's the way to go.
By the way, GE, the problem was your design mistake. The macerator blade is screwed to the center of the wash pump centrifugal impeller. The macerator makes a great spindle for winding up hairs and fibers into a nasty mess that stops the impeller from pumping. My dishwasher is exactly two years old.

@@mikeb.7068 GE dishwashers are one of the worst on the market. I’ve replaced countless PCB’s, but most of my customers opt out because it isn’t a cost-effective repair. The only dishwasher I recommend is Bosch.

@@threedog22 My last dishwasher was a Bosch. I bought it used for $100 and it lasted 10 years. It died and at the time I didn't have time to troubleshoot it so I picked up this NIB GE for $400 on Craig's List. I prefer Bosch but the GE is all I could find at the time.

Hello, why is the pump insert not clamp down, there's a leak where the pump insert is. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you so much.

is G.E. using material that cannot withstand dishwasher detergents?
I bought the machine new. diverter valve rubber hose dissolved and ruptured after 2 1/2 years. I replaced it myself. 2 years later rubber hose part of circulation pump dissolved and leaked. upon removing circulation valve, I checked status of diverter valve hose and it's dissolved as well.
cheap chinese materials and manufacturing. buying a new dishwasher today.

There a reason as to why the circulation pump leaks out of the sump seal ? I realize it doesn’t require a clamp and just kinda pushes into it. But now it leaks like never before. i did not tear the seal.
