I never realized how much Walt relied on his brother Roy. The studio wouldn't have been the same without him.

Anyone who has had their own business knows there's a few hotheads called Kingdom Builders that lead the pack against the boss. This might have all been avoided with more decent negotiations. We saw how Roy, who was gifted in this, got it all back on track. Everyone learned a lesson through it. Win win.

The animators busted their asses to complete Snow White and were promised bonuses by Disney. Despite Snow White's enormous success they never got the promised bonuses. That's what infuriated them and precipitated the animator's strike. Walt left the thankless task of negotiating the settlement to his brother Roy. Roy saved his brother from disaster countless times.

also, walt was going to replace animation with porn of women who worked for him which even made the strike happen. the man was nuts. he used a gangster named bioff to harm others too.

For total Disney geeks: the dude in the white shirt next to Walt at 02:05 is Card Walker, one of “Walt’s Boys”, who later became president of the Walt Disney Company as EPCOT was being built. He dedicated Epcot as well, before he retired in his 80s.

@Julie Raffaldt Hello there. May I ask in a very kind manner, what is a poco machie? Is this a pico machine for dress makers? I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude if you could explain this term I would be grateful. Also the term Middie? (Money)? I'm so sorry for asking. It's ok if you spelled it wrong I just wanted to know because I think the world of kind people here who express life's experiences. I'm a crapy speller just BTW lol people on TH-cam are so very rude, and unkind but this I not. I thank you dear.
I hope I understand you job position? You maintained the costumes for Disneyland?
I bet that would be a super fun job? I can't sew all that well. I do try however I can't stay focused lol.

Unfortunately, we live in a time where we try to destroy our heroes from the past. Yes, he was human and made mistakes but he also brought joy to millions. The bit about Disneyland being a false image of America is ridiculous. Like most of the comments said, its a fantasy, a place to get away from reality. An in-depth biography is good, but please don't play doom music. I can't think of anyone who has contributed more to the happiness of children and adults alike. After seeing this, he is still my hero.

The good neighbor policy did help out for Walt Disney, because when the European market was closed off for foreign film distribution due to WWII, finding an alternate regional market was and still is not a bad idea, Walt Disney expanding his market to Latin America actually worked out in the end, especially since his characters he created and/or adapted to the big screen are huge in Latin America.

Not true. The workers were the victims. They trusted the man who messed with them and their wages and threatened to end animation to move to porn of women who worked at studio. That set off lots of people there and the strike began. Disney even worked with Bioff, a very dangerous figure in LA, to kill and beat up strikers who resisted. However, strikers won fair due to Roy helping since Roy was more mature than his little Confederate South loving brother.

just because you hire a african artist does not mean you are doing good at all. you either hire him for talent, or using him to support yourself. as a believer of the south racism confederacy, disney knew what he did. he uses same old tactic to get random black person and misuse him to promote continued racism. jungle book was one of the movies floyd was forced to work on to mock his people and himself and he was seen in heaven's eyes as a sellout to evil. no to stupidity. i had enough of hollywood lies. i am far superior to walt since i had to make a long story by hand when disney never could. he would smoke a bigger pipe instead of making a mightier story by hand to help people and not pretend, and have today's company fall apart with no knowledge of bettering.@@wolf2912

“Walt Disney skipped town”... yeah but the govt arrangement wasn’t something that Walt just concocted. It was a lucky coincidence (so-called “good neighbor policy”) with the goals of the American govt. The facts are there and I really like this documentary but it has its own curve to the presentation. Just read Schickel’s “The Disney Version” it’s a focused critique, to which the author is entitled, but it spares no ire, just to put it mildly. I just don’t buy his de-facto speaking like he knew the man. There probably exists no perfect biography but you kind of have your hands full with Disney. You have to triangulate and read from various authors and filmmakers. Keep your mind open but realize too that people are career building in the public eye.

Ummmm! The video forgot to add a certain crime figure who worked with Disney to kill and beat up artists during the strikes. No wonder that monster is too defended. After he lost to the strikers, he damaged his own office in South America and had to deal with this workers until he got them back through more lies, even having a artist blacklisted for being from Moscow, when that was never true. Also, the strike began because Disney was messing with his workers and he threatened to destroy animation by hiring women for porn to replace it, making a looooot of cartoonists unwell with that jerk.
