Mastodon full set live in St. Louis 2001 (Lepers TV)

- Mastodon played at the Creepy Crawl 5/21/2001 in St. Louis. They got lumped into some random midwest show and were the middle act. We came out to film it with 3 cameras and edited it live there. The closing band had some lights already set up and the sound guy started working them so it turned into a pretty sweet looking show...I think 5 people might have been in the crowd.

Its more, Young, Drunk and Hungry. It changes a man when you want to get to the top that badly.
The first time I saw them they only had a 9 song burned CD demo with no song titles and literally nobody knew who they were. They blew everyone away! They ended up playing my hometown 3 more times before Leviathan came out and they started to get really big.
Goes to show they earned their fame. It wasn't handed to them, like so many people like to say.
Straight the fuck up dude these guys were in the trenches for like 15 years with the bands before Mastodon, nothing was handed to them. And Brent was heroin a junky for years and shit they earned their keep.
I've heard people in other bands say shit like that and I've immediately defended them because they really did bust their asses and pay all the dues and anyone that refuses to acknowledge that is being the most obvious hater.
If I could hear Trilobite live, I would Jizz and shit my pants at the same time. That crowd had no idea they were watching one of the greatest bands to be.

It's inspirational to see such a badass band play to noone
one of my old bands opened for them back in the day in Syracuse ny. we played in the back storage room because the club had to set up for disco night inside the club lol. i gave troy and brent my last beers out of a twelve pack of keystone i think, earlier that day. as i watched there set along with about 30 people i realized they where way to big already for this kind of establishment. sure enough look at them now! awesome!

The first time I saw Mastodon was on the Relapse Contamination Tour back in 2002. They played in Austin and Cephalic Carnage was also on the bill. I already owned Remission and they had already infected my brain with their awesome song writing and sheer power. I knew when I saw them that night that they were really going to be something special. They played with so much ferocity and strength. I will never forget that show. Mastodon. I love you.

Thanks for posting! Now I can back my statement they played the old creepy crawl. I actually skipped the Deftones show that day for this show, one of the best choice I've ever made.
They had one more gig there I believe in 2004 right before Leviathan came out. Loudest show I had ever been to until I was at the Pageant for Slayer against the wall of amps.

I was at that show! They opened for Hoodz and the main band was Dying Fetus. It was a 3pm early show and Mastodon was te 1st to play. There were seriously 5 people watching them. Great video.

You can tell that they are having a problem with the vocals, instruments are spot on as always but it's cool to see them in their early stages, super happy welcoming war was on here too
Makes sense considering their original vocalist left the band by 2001 and they already had shows booked. It's interesting seeing them adjust.
