Ida Tarbell's paper changed everything. Suddenly the public and the press were far more aware of businesses were becoming more and more powerful. J D Rockerfeller was not the monster Ida painted him as, but certainly, the business practices that he and folks like him (Carnegie, Morgan) were coming to light. But Teddy Roosevelt was familiar with this fight. He had been fighting it while he was in New York. And with the death of William McKinley, Roosevelt was going to take full advantage of the executive branch to start swinging.

That glare. That glare, in a massive way, summarizes how the general, common sense American populace feels about big business and politics based around the corruption that can and does take place when big businesses/trusts/groups are allowed to sway the government with money

I like that you pointed out that the Sherman anti trust law was used against the labor unions. You should do a series that focuses on the labor unions of the time too.
The late 1800's and early 1900's industrial scenes were frightful. I am fortunate in previously having a course book that covered them thoroughly, along with Native American cultures, but I'm rusty, and more people need to know.

We need Theodore Roosevelt today. We are in the same exact mess where the politicians care far more about the wants of their donors than the wants of their constituents. Nina Turner or Andrew Yang is the best chance we have to return control back to the people.

I love Teddy Roosevelt. He's my favorite president. What an absolute badass through and through.
They will tell you all about his fight against Standard, but what they won't tell you is the time Teddy's boat was stolen. So he built a new one and caught the thieves. Not killing them, but instead bringing them to prosecution.
This is a very interesting time for me. I have always been a big fan of Theodore Roosevelt, and seeing how he and others went after trusts is great.
Just saying, Roosevelt made deals with the trusts to make sure the trust busting wouldn't go to far.

What's left out on the coal miners strike, his "mediation" was the assertion that the mining of natural resources like coal was a matter of national security. He told the coal companies that if they didn't manage to work out things with their employees he would send in the US Army Core of Engineers to operate the mines instead, until the disputes were settled. Classic Teddy, walking softly and carrying a big stick.
