i recently bought my 1 mac ever.. im 42.. and macbook air m1 its a little beast.. im amazed how good and intuitive it is.. my next laptop will be 15 mac book air..
i use both devices and righ now i am using 14 pro m3. believe me i am missing my old m2 air 15 inch. speakers almost same as 14 pro. 15 air's only downside is lcd screen. i wish there was a mini led or oled
The 15” air is amazing. I sold my M1 MBA for it and couldn’t be happier

Its a good start, but its too early to tell, I hope that it will take off and it will get all developers to make native arm apps. Good software + upgradability and Apple will start sweating.
Im a mac user and im rooting for good windows laptops, it means that there will be competition and it means better gear for all of us no matter the system
I've used a mixed Mac/Windows/Linux environment for decades. It requires and understanding of what you need to do vs the hardware and OS running on it.
My "daily driver" is a 15" 2015 MBP upgraded to 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD and I use a 27iMac in my studio for music work in GarageBand and a few other Mac specific apps.
There's also the fact that I can run MacOS, Win10 AND Linux all on that MBP seamlessly.

The lack of expansion options for storage is my biggest showstopper. OK, maybe I had to buy a 512gb windows laptop, but in many instances i have storage upgrade options that do not involve an external drive.
Thats today tech - can’t have everything. Times when laptops have many ports and was easy to repair are in the past.
Of course this will bring out the fan boys on both sides, but I for one love windows and the Mac both. There are great things about windows PCs and the flexibility we have, especially building our own. But to claim that Apple devices are overpriced and under perform is just fan-boy denial.

Totally agree. I built a smoking PC earlier this year, but day to day I use my old M1 IMAC most of the time.
Updates, crashes, firmware updates, gpu issues, windows updates when I don’t want them… the Mac just works all the time, and it’s fast (enough)
I am in the market for a new laptop.
All i want is a laptop where i can edit 4k videos in Premier Pro, lightroom and Photoshop.
So a Macbook Pro with 16GB and M2 Pro is a good choice?
Go for more RAM. It is shared between the CPU and GPU. Depending on your workflow you could get the M1 Pro. M1 Pro has 16 cores. M2 Pro has 19 cores in the grand scheme of things more ram will make the experience smoother. And difference in export time will not matter much because you can only find a difference of 3-5 minutes at most.
Let's be honest if you're really gonna be doing rough work, you should get a PC with the MBP money and buy a secondary laptop with great performance, something the M1 MacBook Air from 2020 with enough storage and ram. Much better setup imo.
@@_fiftyseven_ They are in the market for a new laptop. Maybe they have circumstances where they are on the move and need a portable device that they can carry.
Remoting in does not work because that would be a continuous cost that they can avoid if they get a MacBook Pro which has desktop level power for most workflows.
What you said is an option if they meet very specific requirements:
1. They have a home.
2. They are at home often.
3. Electricity is plentiful and there are no downtimes to electricity in the area.
4. The parts for a PC are readily available or a pre-built PC is available at a nominal cost.
@@JJ-cq6hu aint reading all that but if he wants a MacBook Pro specifically then yh he can, I'd say get 32 gigs minimum and 1TB considering he'll be playing with big files all the time. Make sure you keep a few backups tho like a hard drive. These MBPs are crazy efficient and powerful
As long as you are not using After Effects that much, you should be good to go.
As you would be with ANY other Laptop for that price point. (As long as you are not running on battery...)
the M1 battery is too good even after I modded mine to get 240hz in 8k through some things

I'll give you my reason why I will never but another apple device.
I have a cupboard full of 'no longer supported' apple devices that are now e waste.
From ipod touch, sawtooth G3, mac mini ipad, G5 macs and so on.
Apple now solder the SSD to the motherboard. Big Mistake.
Based on yours and Lisa at mobile tech review I invested £3000 in an asus pro16 OLED with an rtx 4080.
It is a beast for sure, but my goodness you can rip it out of my cold dead hands in place of anything from mac.
I would point out I have been a mac user since the Sawtootoh G3 arrived.
The reason they're no longer supported is Apple isn't holding on to legacy code like Windows. Doesn't take long in Win 11 to find a Win XP menu still left over. In 2024 almost nothing is upgradeable on laptops.
Back to school and EDU discount is good. Apple never verifies your actual education status so you'd save a ton of money when you buy Apple direct during back to school promotion.
Im going to switch to mac because it effortlessly can handle 4k video with a lower spec machine than the windows laptops ive been trying that cost more
Tbh. Windows is trying very hard to convince me to switch, while Apple themselve ist trying to make me stay. 🤣
If they would just make the Base-MacBook 16gb/512gb for ~1.200€ I would dump Windows completely and I know at least 5 people who would do that as well...
i have a gamer desktop pc.. for laptops macs are far much better.. i tried first a mac book air m1 and its a beast with only 8gb.. but screen its a little small for my taste. you could try some cheap model and you will start understand apple..

In fact I like the MacBooks a lot. I'm using a MacBook Pro (M2 Max) at Work.
The thing is: Every company is trying to rip you off, but no other company has the audacity to make it so obnoxious.
I will not spend my own money for a computer that could have easily been even twice as amazing without costing 500€ more.
In my opinion those are amazing laptops, they are just not priced that smart.
But I guess Apple just doesn't care. 😅

Apple don't want general market domination. They want the high end market domination to keep the brand as a luxury brand so they can overcharge rich people and make more money on each sold item. Its their business model, and it so successful they are very unlikely to abondon it.
Dropping prices will make it less of a status symbol and less of a luxury item. It's not in their interest...

Judging by the reviews that have come out so far, it's not really worth the price for creators, let along gamers. It doesn't have native support for Adobe apps yet. It's crap for 3d rendering because no dGPU. It's about as fast with x86 in davinci. And lastly, its battery life is still inferior to macs. Just wait for Lunar Lake.
@@gospromode No one is ignoring X Elite. It is a good chip, the problem it is having are all the different OEMs doing different things with it. If there was one forced performance standard and CoPilot+ wasn't such a mess with marketing; Windows on ARM would take off.

@@S1eepers Have you even tried an M series Mac? i have an M1 Max Macbook pro and a desktop PC with an i7 13700K and a 4080, my macbook outperforms my pc on a lot of tasks. not browsing or office work, I´m an architect and I use 3D programs and video edition programs, the only reason I got a PC is because I needed an Nvidia gpu for 3D rendering, that´s the only task that it does better than my Macbook, but it requires an 850w psu my mac doesn´t consume more than 45w.

@@S1eepers I don’t use Mac only software, actually all the software I use runs on windows as well, that’s how I can compare the performance, and it outperforms on most of the tasks to my windows desktop.

I guess we gotta wait to see what the new Snapdragon X Elite laptops do with optimization. X86 emulations so far look VERY good. With ARM optimization natively, they wont be near the MBPs but certainly a great competitor to the MBA for 2 main reasons:
- far better than value than MBAs (the RAM and SSD upgrades are basically highway robberies)
- Windows
Would be great for performance users who do travel and do pro work on the go with a desktop being their main device.
I am using a 4070 TI desktop and a 4090 Laptop which run similarly and are my workhorses but both are desktops the 4090 laptop just being a mobile desktop. It is not something I would use on a Train, Car, Bus, or plane and not something I would use on my kitchen table or while sitting on the couch. This is why I got a 16gb M3 air. As long as I am not gaming it really runs the same as my workstations even if the renders take longer but rendering time is not something that concerns me. Windows Snapdragon X is not cooked yet but when it is I will probably go back to Windows,
At 3:07 you say there's no trackpad on a Windows laptop that's as good as what's on the MacBook Air and I'm going to have to challenge you on that one, because the trackpad on the new window surface laptop 7 is phenomenal.
Surface & trackpad is good. Still i prefer the macbook as an overall package, not to mention the resale value

You’re right about the constant “windows updates”. I have a 9 year old Dell laptop and the constant updates are so annoying.
honestly, every 2-3 days I need to update something....
@@theTechNotice The one that gets me is they were supposed to make it easier with widget upgrade --all . It keeps trying to update apps no longer on my computer and keeps reinstalling them when updating. It is insane.
There was only one reason i bought mac books for my staff. Built quality and durability of the devices. Even the best surface tablets eventually were giving problems as the intel or amd chips do heat up. MacOs sucks otherwise as a daily OS. Hopefully the new Snapdragon lines will see better quality devices.

The only two reasons i see is ecosystem and battery outside that windows laptops are really good heck linux machines are the best.
Overall, I think you make some good points about why someone might want to buy the MacBook Air, but I think you're failing your viewers by not comparing the MacBook Air the Snapdragon x laptops that are out. Because they do have longer battery life, they do have great performance and they do have great trackpads.
Someone might still want to end up buying a MacBook Air, and that's perfectly fine, but if you're going to do a comparison, I think it behooves you and your audience for you to be accurate and make accurate comparisons.

I would just go ahead and get one if that’s the only thing stopping you. Using a macbook you quickly just.. forget that the notch is even there. I agree with you that it looks terrible and is useless. If it had face ID then I would accept the notch and see value in it.. but I really don’t see much of a point. But I can say that I barely ever notice it unless I am actively paying attention to it
Price oled touch and pen support 4k screen gaming egpu upgradeable ram and ssd easy fiy repair 32 bit comoatibility windows and Linux operating system.
I can attest to the video editing performance. I edited this entire video (6k BRAW footage on a 4k timeline) in Premiere Pro - th-cam.com/video/Y7mlC5FTl-g/w-d-xo.html . 15-inch Macbook Air M2 (Storage: 512GB / RAM: 8GB) Barely any lag in the timeline and exported the 8:00 final edit in 25 minutes flat. NOT BAD!

I had a MacBook Pro and I installed MacOS and Windows-10 Dual boot. I ran benchmarks in both operating systems and MS-Windows was about 10-15% Faster than MacOS on the Macbook. I posted the results on Apple support community forum and they had NO answers. The soldered on SSD and RAM on the Mac is a Deal breaker for me and I will NOT be buying a Mac any time soon. My Data is More important than the computer hardware.
If MacBooks had native Windows 10, I'd transfer all my stuff in a heartbeat.

I gave back my MacBook Air after I got it a week ago.
The UI features and ease of use that Windows has will never be there with macOS.
Nowadays, everyone is not using just one app. The fact that Windows has more cross platform app support and allows me to choose how to live my life is important.
And I would say the same as you but on the MacOS side. It depends what you have made yourself accustomed to. When I grab my father-in-law’s PC laptop I just get lost! 😂
@@atgred I would have said I agree. However, nowadays tools exist that can make the windows UI turn into macOS-like.
I am not saying that you should go for it. It is just that the freedom to customize and make the system adapt to me rather than me adapting to it is something that Windows lets me do and something that macOS does not.
But I do understand where you are coming from, you don’t want to break the habits and practices that you have. Which is totally okay.
Just that in the context of this video where they talk about Windows users switching to Mac I said that it is not needed. The battery life of MacBooks is now there with snapdragon laptops.

No kidding Apple is ripping all of us off. I always said that Apple laptops are really for people who simply can't stand tech - it's an "applicance" rather than an actual computing device, which is why Apple has been hostile to repairs and upgrades for so long. With the unexpandable ARM chip it's basically a cell phone with a big screen and keyboard.
It's disposable out of the box.
I'm not saying they're bad products - I'm just saying Apple hates and disrespects its customers, that's all.
im very disappointed with snapdragon x elite laptop. its so overhyped but the performance is mediocre. Windows on arm is half baked and underwhelming. not good for content creation. I will just wait for lunar lake chips. let's see

- Bad gpu perfomance, no nvidia option
- Overpriced nvme options
- Overpriced RAM options
- Not upgradeable
- No user repairability
- Bad for gaming
- Bad for 3D applications such as Maya, Blender, etc.
- Bad for machine learning, AI, stable diffusion,....
- Bad for VR
- No eGPU available.

The GPU isn’t bad, only when you compare it to like a 4090 mobile but it can be competitive in certain areas.
The overpriced NVME and RAM options are a pain in the ass but most people will get the option that fits them and most people that buy these laptops understand that and usually not a reason to buy the laptop.
I agree on the upgradability part but there’s a reason why it’s a SOC for efficiency and unified memory. I doubt they really needed to solder the SSD’s except for maybe swappable memory and efficiency but I’d take removable memory way over Solder SSD modules.
Agree they are horrible at repairability and that’s one of their worst cons but I suspect 99-95% of the people that purchase these never need repairing for the time of using them. That’s no excuse for repairability of coarse.
Bad for most games I agree but on natively run games with the high end Mac chips run games pretty decent for a laptop. That’ll only get better and if you run Crossover with GPTK2 with Cxpatcher through steam. I can run quite a bit of games that don’t have anticheat garbage.
Seen Some people running Blender with the updates with the M3 max run some pretty impressive benchmarks. Especially for an IGPU.
Not saying it’s the best but some software is catching up.
Don’t know much about ML, AI or stable diffusion but I’d imagine something like an M4 ultra or supposed M4Extreme would be decent at any of those if supported natively.
No comment on VR but I’ll agree with you.
I really wish if Apple could integrate thunderbolt 5 with an eGPU would be a really cool idea. Might not be as fast as Oculink but that would be a cool option as well.
You make some great points that I agree with but I don’t think all of them are so clear cut especially if most people don’t have all 10 reasons at once to consider if you’d buy an Apple laptop. We only see these points brought up in tech channels or comments when 95% of people buying laptops don’t do ML, VR, Blender or things like those.
@@GlobalWave1A SoC does not require a soldered nvme at all. . In fact Apple nvme storage is less.than half speed than latest Windows laptops, so there is zero advantage in doing that, just programmed obsolescence.
Same.about RAM, it is not integrated in the same chip, Apple ARM uses standard LPDDR5 memory.on independent chips (just soldered to the.same die). Don't trust Apple marketing videos, they make it look like everything is integrated in one chip but RAM and NVMe are not, they are independent chips but soldered to the PCB to avoid user upgrades. Period

Apple did an amazing job with their Chips, no need to argue about that. The thing is, they could be even better. (At least more reasonably priced imo. 😅)
Apple just refuses to act accordingly, and that is because people keep defending their behaviors.

Make small changes over time works if the company is incentivized to support devices and provide features.
Apple is not. Other than battery life and portability there are no incentives for windows users to switch to Mac.
As a user one is better served with cross platform applications. Which is something Windows excels at.

apple sucks ... you have to pay for you iphone to sync music playlists to your phone ... and photos well that thing gets full you have to pay storage extra...and if you dont setup your desktop the right way you have to pay extra storage faster also ...and and..... there just a snieky company
gaming doesnt work ... and not every app that your used to work with will eventualy work well on a mac in my case trading software...egpu not supported over thunderbold ...that was only till intel cpu mac.... and you cant just get a basic laptup and upgrade ssds or ram after ..no00 you have to pay 4 times as much as you would on an intel laptop to get the ram or ssd you wanted ... otherwise youll have to use external dongels omg the dongels you need to make things work ... pffff
so....ja. im again switching back to intel pc. and yes have a macbookair to travel because its light and battery goes a long way...but thats it, is my emergancy get away device... the hard work is done on intel desktop and an android phone. with a small Nas ( synology or qnap or wd depending on your it level and needs) at home to store all the things there ... works better and its cheaper over time....and if your on a pc. just buy samsung drives, install windowns with you basic apps and log in to all things...then use the magic samsung app to copy to an external samsung ssd as a backup ... and when things brake. you boot from the external and copy things back over to the internal ssd ....its sooo easy
if you are a windows user buy the Snapdragon they are excellent and more powerful than the mac M4 with more ram and mac os users buy a macbook

I would buy a macbook if I could upgrade the SSD myself and didn't get ripped off for extra ram and also if their screens were OLED. That's literally the only pieces holding me back from moving away Microsoft spyware/adware otherwise known as windows 11.
