Watching those videos on the cat killer litter boxes totally broke me down. Luckily all the boxes I’ve reviewed have multiple safety features…but the amount of times my old orange cat likes sticking his head into new boxes to see how they work 😢 breaks my heart. This one is adorable and is a single drum that stops when any weight is added. Glad you liked my video 🙂
Any update on how you like or dislike this? I’m trying to decide between this and litter robot. We’ve been using other pet safe products for years and this is so much cheaper than litter robot. Thank you
I've been debating getting a Litter Robot as it's the only top automatic litter box I haven't tested and I know it's a great one, but this is totally solid and a much better price! I really like this box. It's still the best looking box I've tested and it's the easiest to keep clean thanks to the simple design without all the fancy extras. I would say that filling it with litter is a little annoying. You're supposed to pour it into the front opening, but I find that kind of awkward, so I pop off the top band and pour into the hole in the drum. Which works better for me. I also do not like the buttons on this as they aren't very clear so the app is a must. After testing 4 boxes, my two favorites were this and the PetKit Pura Max - which now has a newer version: geni.us/FdMwt7R (paid link). I used them both for many months. Right now I've swapped this PetSafe box one out to test another box, but I'm probably going back to this one.
Worst thing I’ve ever bought had it for a month. To many moving parts to clean. App is horrible. Now it won’t spin at all. Tried several different types of litter and they all stick to all the spinning parts. The cat poop will smear all the way around the globe. It’s horrible.
@@emersonwombat6278 I'm so sorry you didn't like this box. Have you tried other automatic litter boxes? Pretty much all the drum boxes have the same spin and litter filtering features so I think the issues you're having would happen with all of them...that said, I've never had these kind of issues and, in general, I find this PetSafe far easier to clean with less parts than many of the much more expensive competitors. For troubleshooting, if poop is smearing (maybe your cat isn't burying it?), you may want to add a longer delay after the cat is in the box for it to self-clean to let everything harden. This also helps quite a bit with litter clumping. I have my boxes set to 5 minutes. As long as the litter has time to clump, it shouldn't stick to the sides or the filter as much. In general, I only fully clean out my box every 6 weeks as it's totally fine otherwise...as long as I empty the drawer on a regular basis. Sometimes I wipe the front edge or knock a piece of litter off the filter, but that's it. Mine stays quite clean overall. As for the app, the PetSafe app is pretty standard. Since I've reviewed so many of these, I'd say PetSnowy has the best app (but most parts to clean!) and the Neakasa has the worst app (super buggy app but you might prefer box for easier cleaning) right now. But apps are always getting updated so I'm sure these will improve.
You did not mention the beeping notifications that are annoying. The household dog is annoyed by the beeps and runs away to hide from it. So if you have dogs be aware that this may bother them. The sound is similar to a smoke detector tone. Not as loud and only one beep when the cleaning cycle is finished. But who needs to know when the cycle is finished? This was a major problem at our home. Other than that, I really like the design, the way it self cleans, the way it controls odors. We recently got a Litter-Robot litter trap mat that works really well for the exit routine.
I didn't include it as a pro or a con because you can turn off the beep! Check your settings in the app. You can see it here in my video: th-cam.com/video/xD9_OeBbNyg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hTAXkUjGZV4e7tdb&t=106
You cannot add a ramp to this as it cannot work properly if you attempt to. The safety sensor wouldn't properly sense weight and it wouldn't be able to spin. Unless your cat can no longer jump or is a kitten (which this is not recommended for), I don't see the jump being an issue! It's only 12.5". Far lower than the standard chair, bed, or cabinet most cats jump on regularly. That said, if you have any concern about the height, the PuraMax is an incredible litter box that cats can just walk into: geni.us/FdMwt7R (paid link).
I empty my drawer every week. Not always because it's full, but I find that a week is the limit for how long I want old litter in a drawer. As for cleaning the entire box, I do that once every 5-7 weeks. One thing I would recommend is occasionally having it do a cleaning while you watch it spin to see what litter has stuck to the mat. If you can catch those stuck patches every once in awhile, the box will stay in good shape longer.
I have the regular petsafe flat open auto litterbox. And it works great. One of my cats has gotten litter picky and doesnt like the crystals anymore. I switched to clay clumping and she loves it. I was going to get the spinning litter box in your video but was worried about cat size. My cats are 13 and 12 lbs. Would it be big enough? Great video thank you
It is large enough, BUT the key piece is whether or not your cats will want to jump into a covered litter box. My old orange cat has laid claim to this box. He is currently underweight, but he is still a huge cat with a healthy weight of 16 pounds. And while my ragdoll 15lb cat doesn't like jumping into this one, the one he prefers (PetKit) has the roughly the same size drum. So I'm confident your 13 and 12lb kitties will fit it. I've reviewed 4 different automatic litter boxes and I ended up keeping this one and the PetKit because I think they look the best, have the smallest footprint, and my cats prefer them. Here's my comparison video that may help you as I think you will also like either of these: th-cam.com/video/TBqoKLTs-PE/w-d-xo.html
When I want to do a full clean, I pick up the drum and pour it out into a trash can. I prefer pour it out of the hole that it already dumps litter out of, but PetSafe’s walkthrough has you pour it out of the cat entry hole. And if you want to get super clean, the rubber piece that the litter sits on can be popped out and fully cleaned. I use a flat head screwdriver to get an edge of it out so I don’t damage my fingernails. Of all the boxes I’ve reviewed, this is the only one that doesn’t have some sort of mechanism to self clean. But it’s also MUCH more affordable, more attractive, and does a wonderful job. Pros and cons.
Hi! I am wondering what kind of litter you use or would use for this? I am trying to switch over and get this, but not sure what litter to get. I have tried worlds best before and it tracks a ton and gets dusty. Thanks!
Well then I’m not much help as I also use worlds best 😂 I was worried that this box wouldn’t filter worlds best because it has larger holes in the sifter, but it has been working beautifully. The other litter that many claim is for automatic boxes is Arm & Hammer Slide multi-cat litter, but my cats didn’t like walking on in and I think it tracks just as much. Whether you change litter or not, I recommend starting with whatever your cats are using now and stick with that for a month before trying something else.
Yes! The challenge with most of these boxes is usually not the size, but whether or not YOUR cat will want to use it. Both of my cats are big. My old guy is now dealing with kidney disease and is only 9lbs, but he was 16lbs for most of his life and is a notably long-limbed cat. He prefers this box most of the time. My 5 year old ragdoll on the other hand is 15lbs right now and fits in this box, but doesn't like jumping into it. He prefers the PetKit Pura Max. It has roughly the same size drum, but he doesn't have to jump into it. Hey great video. I just purchased this litterbox two weeks ago for my 11 year old cat. How often do you find yourself cleaning the box?

As for cleaning the entire box, I do that once every 5-7 weeks. One thing I would recommend is occasionally having it do a cleaning while you watch it spin to see what litter has stuck to the mat.
