I thought they did a reasonable job on these. I doubled up. One thing I noticed is that the tumbled leather seems to vary from pair to pair. One of my pairs is heavily tumbled like yours, the other one much less so. Thankfully both shoes in each pair match.
When you cut fabric depending on where you cut especially leather it wont be the same. Sone will be textured some parts will feel somewhat like smooth almost seude-like. I also doubled up. One coming in the mail.
I agree. One of my pairs the left foot isn't plush at all on the lateral side but the medial is buttery. One other thing that has me scratching my head is at hibbett they were $200 and footlocker and snkrs they were $210.
The shape of the mudguard on modern 12s just sticks out to me every time I look at them. Not nearly the same height, and the curve near the toe box isn't the same.
Quality control /wear testing doesn’t exist at Jordan brand. Too many inconsistencies between pairs to charge $210 +. I’m sure Jordan brand can afford to make shoes just like the OG …They just choose not to.
100% agree on being disappointed with the lack of quality on the carbon fiber shank plate. Very small thing but the “brush strokes” cf is drastically different than your OG pair and what I remember from the 2004 retros. Overall, very satisfied with the shoe and double-up on these.

Love what Jordan Brand is doing with all the Retros lately. Just not a fan of the Puffy Skate board style Ankle Collars; They did the same thing on the 2018 or 2019 Black Cement 3’s. I have og pair dead stock those plastic tabs that say Jumpman are all cracked. I need to replace the tabs and reglue the soles other that they are all good.

Surprised u didn't touch on the toe box shape, the difference in eyelet placement (closer to the toes on OGs) and the padding in the "ribs" on the side being thicker on the OGs. Also the original wrap inside the box of '97s is black plastic. I own two pairs, one DS never been laced and the other worn and both are plastic wrapped, not tissue paper. As per usual, the retro doesn't come close as JB refuses to remaster the J12.
Depending on mo/yr of production, I’ve seen both white and black tissue paper. Thanks for pointing out toe box. I also forgot to touch on eyelets at the top that have continued to be plastic since the OGs were metal. I noted that in a pinned comment here on YT.
U kno…when the retro 11 ie came out a few months back they were 190$ on sneakers, but I ended up getting mine at the outlet for 175$ and that was the retail on the box compared to footlocker and the sneakers app Smfh!
You can't compare box sizes. I worked at a sporting goods store in the early 00s and same shoe would come in wildly different size boxes I remember this distinctly because it sucked stocking nikes back then because size 9 would have a bigger box than the 12s or visa versa. Such a pain.

Honestly, the lizard mudguard on the 2022 is so soft and I disliked it. I felt like one single bump on it would tear it lol I’m just waiting for the taxis to re-release.
The fatter panels on the upper has a higher cut on the retros and in my opinion it does throw off the asthetic of 12's. The white leather panels just make the shoe a little off. Kinda like the concord 11's from 2012 where the patent leather panel is too low. But instead the white leather upper panel has a higher cut. It just doesn't look right. I'm cool with JB making slight changes with colors to differentiate from prior releases but not the size of the cuts of materials whether it's leather, patent leather, etc.. Shape of the shoe is extremely important too. When JB messes with these things it's a serious bummer. I'm still gonna cop but it's always a bummer knowing these subtle differences lol

Yes it’s DS. Back then I used to double up on pairs so this particular one I kept on ice. Most of these now are just display but I could very well have them restored if I REALLY wanted to rock them. The airbags I’m sure are shot due to age.

I would look into used Air Jordan 12s within the past 5-10 years if you could. Always try to replace with air units before filling the holes. Air makes a world of difference.
You can see the shape difference just from birdseye view. Newer ones still a bit wider around the ankle and toe is still that awful banana shaped. If they just fixed the toe, just fix the damn toe Nike. Jeez. And stop with the plastic cheap shit. Same issue i have with the 5 tongues. I wish they use the old 3m material than the plastic feeling we get now. People love that overly tumbled basketball look whereas i prefer when the leather looks more smooth and raw.

hahaha love the grandma recipe analogy was spot on. this shoe was the second jordan i ver bought as a 19 year old back in 1997 and stiII have them but they are no where close to how good you kept them. i like the new retro, i mean they got it much closer to the original then that 2012 release. the jumpman has gone from butcrack to no butcrack and has gone back and forth a few times. original 11s had a butcrack from what i remember. consider yourself Iucky not owning the other retros. they weren't that great, weII the 2004 was nice though. they got the Iizard print ok, better then the 2012 though. i love how they went to silver on the jumpman tab unlike the 2004 and 2012 retros. that varsity red on the OGs remind me of how the black and red 16s OG had a brighter red compared to the CDP 2008 pair. one thing about the outsole that i only saw in the playoff 12s is the sloppy painting around the black traction area, from 1997 to these 2022 they seem to do that. i think coIIectors like yourself are way more on point then brand jordan is with their own shoes. these sat for 2 days at arden maII and this must have been the easiest shoe to get in a while for myself. thank you for this detailed review.

No major complaints other than the mild lizard impression on the mudguard but it's all good. Seems like the latest installments of multiple versions of original colorways tend to be spot on with the originals.
OG were heavier and bulkier, weren't friendly to play basketball unless you were like LeBron. New retro have cut down cost on materials coincidentally made the shoes more light weight which good for hooping.

@@4honor23 impossible. I didn’t have the OG in 1997 but the outsole was not hard like the retro. Everybody on niketalk had ever said that the OG zoom was way better. I’m happy to get the 2022 but I just can’t walk in my room so how do you want I play with? I have the neophren and I sand the outsole during 20 hours for each shoes to diminish the weight and to get flexibility. Yes i could play bb with and they are good. But the 2022 are heavier and I will not do it again because it is terrible to do this and it is an OG cw. But it is like you tell me, air max CB 1993 are less good than the retro 2017!! But if you are right, I’m happy to learn than retro are more confortable, but it is the first retro to be more comfortable than an OG so I can’t believe it. OG >>> retro

Same thing happened to me today to in Sacramento at Arden mall . Champs charged me 210$ plus tax and Shoe Palace charged me 200$ plus tax .

When you pull the soles, check on those air units. They may need to be replaced.
