This was more than likely right before his near-fatal accident on set where he ran into a car that a stunt driver had stopped way short of where he should and the result was Erik ran into him and the car on his bike and almost died right then and there. He pulled through and did wind up with several broken ribs, collapsed lung, and some other serious injuries and was out of commission for a couple months in mid-1979. He seems burned out and might be a little bit coked up from his weekend adventures to Studio 54 at the time. But it was the late 1970's and this is what young Hollywood did with their money.
I was born in 79 as a little and I know him and as a teenager I wish I had that smell my age or not even really thinking he was still someone who knows him everybody if they were a girl like they did him
He came off as arrogant and snarky. It's easy to see how big his head was back then. He clearly did not want to be in that interview. He said he needed a lot of security to protect him from crazy fans, but I'm sure he wishes he was young and famous again. Crazy thing is now nobody knows who he is anymore but old people like him. The late 70s were not a good time for many people who found newfound fame becuase by the mid 80s they crashed and burned Hard. It went like this with numerous stars back then.

He seems worn out by fame here.
