    You keep coming up with great information for us!
    Tonight I got my (second) Thermo Top C (Rover 75) running a full cycle after freeing up the water pump, it was jammed by coolant sludge.
    The other unit I have is a Range Rover L322 unit of the same vintage but looks absolutely mint.
    Bit of digging, doesn't look like the W-bus controller would be compatible with that unit.
    One of the units is going in my car, the other will eventually be running some radiators at the container workshop.
    At the moment, a mix and match is likely with the Rover75 ECU fitted to the Range Rover unit for the car.
    Seems I might be best off getting a TT-V and this controller for use in the workshop, leaving the TT-C for a spare just now.

    Great to see this adapter works as iv got a similar item (early version) but not fired it up yet. On another subject you mentioned, Robinson Labs controller, I have one that has been installed for around 6 months to monitor a Top-C retro fitted to a Caddy van with the Hungarian ECU, but found the Robinson Labs Controller to be very buggy (W-bus Connection Lost), saying that when it dose come to life it can be a handy tool for monitoring, also the the W-bus to the WTT software worked well just like Robinson Labs stand-alone W-bus converter. My only suggestion would be to power it via a battery rather than a bench power supply, as I found unplugging a nearly fully charged phone from the cigarette lighter (high switching from the circuit) it came to life, this could have been a fluke though 🤷‍♂️.
    Thank you for your videos buddy.
    NOTE: The combination of the Hungarian controller and/or Robinson Labs controller emit a fair bit of EMF through the W-bus and mosfets, literally wipes out most radio signals.

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh. Now that's an interesting thing. I've noticed with the Hungarian ECU when I try to monitor it via WBUS and my Webasto diagnostic software on the laptop it disconnects frequently. Perhaps its the Hungarian ECU that doesn't maintain a constant WBUS stream. I'm actually running off the battery in parallel with the power supply, as 10A isn't enough to run everything during startup.

    • @tobyticehurst
      @tobyticehurst 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidMcLuckie I have the same problem but only when I knock the USB cable, it was 422 start ups/11 months installed between plugging the Hungarian ECU into the software so I can’t quite remember if that was an issue I experienced. I do remember getting the polarity the wrong way round and de-soldering/blowing up diodes off the board on one occasion during the learning process 👍 but after replacing the components it fired straight up. I did buy two more though and only one of those arrived to me working, one would just run the combustion fan and not link via W-bus for love nor money.

    • @tobyticehurst
      @tobyticehurst 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kitecattestecke2303 It is indeed transmitting through the power lines, I get a load of noise from the combustion fan mosfet which a ferrite at the ECU feed has helped a little but will require a few more I recon. The W-BUS noise I get seems to be from the Robinson Labs controller, when unplugged the high frequency beeps go away. This interference has been observed on radio frequencies between 7Mhz-30Mhz.

    My A2 has an Auxilliary heater which heats the engine up faster when it’s running. There is an option to have it as a parking heater and the difference is a remote control, the water pump and a controller which runs the cabin fans without the engine running. 😁👍

    Thanks very much for another informative video!
    I'm running the little black Hungarian box with a 4KW Thermotop Evo in my car, and one thing I've noticed is that it sets a "W-bus communications error" everytime it runs the heater, and the heater turns itself off after 60 minutes of runtime - I then have to remove the "startsignal" to the black box, and start it again to run for another max. 60 minutes.
    I have been in touch with the seller, who says the problem's with my heater, buuut I kinda doubt that... - I would be very interested to hear if your heater is able to run for more than 60 minutes, and if it logs a W-bus comm. error (I know it's a tall order, so completely understand if you don't have time to find out ;)
    BTW, regarding the parking vs. aux. heater: when I configure the jumper to "Aux" the heater turns on/runs, but it doesn't trigger the fan relay or run the circulation pump :)
    Best regards from Denmark, Chris

  • @Rob-cz7lg
    @Rob-cz7lg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps auxiliary or parking, means whether it has an output for the water pump?
    Or perhaps auxiliary heats up to warm the engine and then stays turned off. And parking restarts if the temperature drops to far to allow to have heat for the cabin fan.

    Hi David great video. I've just got a Thermotop V from a Rang Rover but ive read they need a special fuel pump DP41 that has some sort of feedback with a solenoid valve built into the TTV. Do you know if your aliexpress pump had this? Could u post up a link for us all as genuine are SO expensive and even less common here in Ozland.

    Hi @David McLuckie. Great videos. Very informative and entertaining. I bought a dirt cheap Eberspacher Hydronic D5W Z 5KW diesel heater to see if I can get it going and use it as engine preheater for my surplus army truck. I'm not sure of the simularities between the Espars and the Webastos. Would this adaptor also work on my Eberspacher? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

    Where do you get your fuel pumps from? Also what size pumps should you aim for depending on sizing of burners... i found out that the 12-22 pumps don't move enough fuel for the 2kw Webasto as the hertz is lower and the Webasto fuel pump must be bigger :/

      Assuming all the wiring is correct. Then there is perhaps a fault with the heater, or it's 'locked'. The Webastos if they have enough of a specific error will lock and not start and need the codes cleared with the Webasto diagnostic software.
