Lol I absolutely love watching your videos. I am looking forward to chatting with you and getting your help on the heaters For our trucks keep you the great videos
So many times with this battle but with Eberspatcher from oe car equipment. I totally feel your frustration. Thanks for the laughs. I spat my coffee over my ipad. So nice to see its not just me that gets proper wound up 🤣🤣
Legend! I personally was “done” with Eberspacher diesel heaters months back!🤓🤓 I installed Chinese heaters in my workshop and our Motorhome which have run for hundreds of hours no issue largely as a result of your and others videos. Keep the faith in China but maybe not for 5G.😎
Yes, another trouble getting mine works well. You are having startup issues, if the supply voltage drop below 10.2v turning on glow plug, glow is also a flame out sensor reading below 1V or above 2.8, emergency shutdown... new plug worth a try
I think I mentioned on your previous video the controllers mounted in a stupid place and they get cooked hence most on eBay have faulty controllers, what is ‘fun’ with these is playing with the webasto kline diags software, lots of info when the things are running and useful for fault finding.
I thought about buying the diagnostics cable, but I didn't want to spend more money on a heater that still doesn't work. Maybe if I get one up and running I'll get the connection to the PC going to see what we can fiddle with. :)
yup when i used the software on mine with a usb/obd2 cable for a fiver off ebay - it says onscreen the glowplug is like 8 ohms... which is mission impossible etc, its about 0.3 cold on my meter... never did manage to repair the board so built my own controller in the end.
you cracked me up :-) trust ive been there it hurts, like early pc mobos, could work, should work, doesnt after 100 hours of pain messing with it and should work but just wont. it feels like the sensors for the electronics board might not be happy on this one, perhaps a component on the board that went weird and messed with the coding, but all good, the break down for the insight goes along way to really get the feel for these systems. Thanks for the share.
Hi dave. Thanks for the videos on the heaters. I have a question about that heater with the heat exchanger? Does it have to have water flowing through it or can it still run without any water?
If you don't have flow going through it you will have ~5kw heating a cup of water. It will boil and cause rapid increase in pressure in your water lines. In this case, I bet the heater detects that there's nothing connected to the plugs for the waterpump and therefore it refuses to start.
I have the 4kw version i use it to heat my 325 litre water tank for my window cleaning have you tried turning the water pump on first before the webasto when mine starts up it does pre check before it will start. The water pump comes on first runs a few minute then the webasto starts up i had a problem with the pump had seized from not being used for a while and mine done the same as yours give it another go with the water pump on first before you start it up.
hi i have a complete unit with controller and a spare unit like you have there the complete unit has has the pump and fuel pump built on to it. its been fully stripped and serviced just never got around to using it. ill sell it could you collect from sheffield thanks
I'd put a wire into pin 2 connected to obd and laptop. That way Dave you can clear the faults. My experience is all this don't work on these, only the hot air ones. I can send you one to play with that works a treat but I would want it back when you done you testing. No hurry tho. Got a few lying around. lol.
Failure is an option and just as interesting as success.......nearly! That said, I didn't put all the effort in. The controller may have fried or perhaps more likely is the possibility that the driver for the glow plug didn't survive the initial incident.
So this was less Webasto, more Weebastard then? Just goes to show that even name brand stuff can be just as much a pain in the arse as cheapo chinese stuff... :P
The perfect fix is put on a block of wood on the ground and threaten it with a 14lb sledge if that does not work make scrap put of it and put it out of its misery plus a great way to get rid of frustration . Cheers from Australia
might be your temp sensor on the control board is bad ... common issue ... also its always worth a try to resolder almost every connection on their boards ;)
I can't remember on which board it is but one thinks the glow plug is always bad. Even with a brand new glow plug. Sadly my soldering skills would just make an even bigger mess. :)
@@DavidMcLuckie if this was a parking heater (came with waterpump) and not an engine warmer, your problem was merely not having anything connected to the pins for the water pump on the webasto.
Webasto and Eberspracher have artificially high prices because of supply and demand, something is only worth what people are willing to pay, so if it costs the big brands £50 to make a unit people are willing to pay £1000 for then happy days......right up until it catches mr Wongs attentions and he strips one down and reverse engineers it and works out he can make a pretty good copy for £20 and sell it £120. Ah economics....don’t you just love it.
I had the same experience with Webasto. They are shit in a long term. Repaired mine, works for a year. Repaired it again, works for a year, etc. Got another one, worked for 1 month. Bye Webasto
David McLuckie Then is a specific car heater with software there only fits the car it’s made for. Webasto make a lot of heaters to diesel cars there have problems getting hot in the winters common for the thermo top c as a additional heater is thy don’t have a waterpump on them as thy are made only to run when the engine is running. @@Maol27 This is accurate. where did OP get this heater? 2 ways to resolve put it in the same kind of car it came out of or replace the circuit board with one that doesn't interface with a car. You might be able to check the serial # with webasto.
@@DavidMcLuckie the design, gonna give it away for free, the electronics work it's the code I'm tidying up but this month done very little with it as gearbox went again so that's taking time, supposed to have started new job but not sure was going on with it now, and the twonks at dwp/universal credit are on my back for not earning enough. I'd try the 2kw Chinese controller module off of the EGR hybrid wired up to the Webasto and see if that can run it? Might be a last ditch attempt.

This is worth watching just for the swearing in anger at the end of the video
Wonder if the burn chamber could be cleaned with Mr muscle (flammable) oven cleaner, sprayed into the inlet?

This version has the water pump plug blanked off. Unless you mean manually running the pump? It was running during the test.
Is there a thermal fuse or a bi metal trip for an overheat

Sorry for sounding a dumb ass but what's the silver box sat on top the battery?
That's the 240V to 12V power supply. It can supply 50A rather than the bench supplies 10A.

U need to plug the water pump in to the heater it looks for the pump under start up if it’s not there it will go in to fail mode.
What if the heater contains a factory blank where the water pump would connect, like this one does?
